Chapter 445: Chapter 445: Death of the Basilisk

Hum.

A blue-green spell shot towards the basilisk in the square like a blade, striking its scales. The basilisk instantly tore and bled, letting out an angry roar from its mouth.

But such an attack clearly couldn’t inflict a fatal wound. Its two dark orange eyes turned towards the greasy man, Snape, who had attacked it.

Just as their gazes were about to meet, the stones on the plaza floor suddenly rose up, blocking them.

Snape looked towards Professor McGonagall on the side and nodded slightly in thanks. ”Its eyes are a big problem.”

”But the most vulnerable part of its body is also its eyes,” Flitwick sighed, saying, ”Ordinary spells can’t harm its body at all.”

”Ordinary spells won’t work, so let’s use stronger ones,” Snape said indifferently but with determination.

Given the basilisk’s defenses, ordinary spells naturally wouldn’t work. But Snape commanded more than just ordinary spells; he also knew some extremely dangerous, extreme magic.

For example, Fiendfyre.

This thing, once cast, would definitely burn the target to ashes. No matter how strong the opponent’s defenses, it would be useless, even the basilisk couldn’t stop it.

”Calm down, Severus,” McGonagall seemed to know what he was planning, shaking her head. ”Things haven’t gotten that bad yet.”

Using Fiendfyre on the basilisk would certainly work, but Fiendfyre was also an extremely dangerous spell. This spell had no counter-curse, and if the magic was distributed unevenly, it could cause unimaginable disaster.

To kill the basilisk and plunge the entire Hogwarts into endless flames was clearly not worth the trouble.

”Yes, calm down!” Lockhart, on the other side, nodded, his voice trembling. ”At this critical moment, one must remain calm. Don’t be afraid, absolutely do not be afraid...”

What he said was less like encouragement for everyone and more like comforting himself.

After all, this guy was all show and no substance, the dregs of fakes. To still be standing here when actually facing something as super dangerous as a basilisk was already a miracle.

”You have no business here, shut up!” Flitwick was really finding him more and more annoying, and couldn’t help but yell.

”Damn it, this thing is heading towards the Great Hall!” Seeing the basilisk’s movements, even Snape couldn’t remain calm any longer.

After all, the young wizards had all been moved to the Great Hall. If the basilisk charged in there, in such a confined space, the consequences would be unthinkable.

”Why? Does this thing seem very purposeful?” McGonagall frowned deeply, her expression full of confusion.

Logically, their attack on the basilisk should have attracted its hatred. From an animal’s perspective, the two sides should have fought to the death.

But this basilisk inexplicably didn’t play by the rules, abandoning them and heading straight for the Great Hall.

”Now is not the time to consider these things. We must not let the children get hurt.” Flitwick took two deep breaths and waved his wand continuously.

Red and blue spells struck the basilisk’s location like lightning. Two huge fireworks bloomed on its body.

The Ravenclaw Head of House was indeed a master of charms. Even the basilisk’s scales could barely withstand his attacks. Its surface was broken, revealing two huge depressions, bleeding profusely.

But strangely, even after suffering such injuries, the basilisk didn’t slow down its forward movement at all.

”Oh, damn it!” Flitwick roared, even wanting to rush in front of the basilisk and block it with his own body.

Hum.

Just then, a dark red light suddenly flashed past him.

*Spliced.*

The light instantly circled behind the basilisk and struck its eyes.

Hiss!

The basilisk finally couldn’t hold on. The intense pain made it thrash violently on the ground. The two pillars on either side collapsed under its massive impact, and smoke and dust filled the air.

Crash.

Just then, a mass of dark blue flames descended from the sky and instantly enveloped the entire body of the basilisk.

”Thank you for your efforts, everyone,” Dumbledore’s figure slowly appeared, his voice gentle.

”You could have come a bit later, Professor Dumbledore,” Snape said, glancing at him out of the corner of his eye with a hint of sarcasm.

”Don’t be too harsh on old men, Severus,” Dumbledore shook his head. ”This was the fastest I could go. I didn’t even have time for a Chocolate Frog.” As he spoke, his gaze fell upon the basilisk, which was gradually burning to ashes.

”A beautiful performance, Professor Dumbledore,” Flitwick sighed, impressed. ”I dare say no one in the entire wizarding world could control Fiendfyre as exquisitely as you.”

Only burning the basilisk’s body without damaging anything else around it clearly required extremely precise control.

In Flitwick’s lifetime, this was the first time he had witnessed such a level of control.

”This technique was inspired by Zickrein,” Dumbledore winked. ”But he doesn’t seem to be here?” He looked around, indeed not seeing the person with short, light blue hair.

”He’s resting today,” McGonagall replied. ”He should still be in his dormitory, right?”

”We shouldn’t be discussing spells right now,” Snape said, looking sharply at Dumbledore. ”Why is this basilisk on the plaza? You said you had made thorough preparations, didn’t you?”

”The plan went awry, Severus,” Dumbledore sighed. ”Please believe me, this is not the situation I wanted to see.”

”A plan?” McGonagall blinked, her eyes confused.

Dumbledore’s plan to lure the snake out and catch the mastermind had clearly not been told to her. The old professor had only discussed it with Snape. The latter had strongly objected but couldn’t change the old professor’s mind.

But in this situation, the plan had clearly had a flaw. The snake hadn’t been lured out, and instead, the basilisk had rampaged across the campus.

”Wait, wait... what’s going on?” Ron, who hadn’t spoken for a while, finally thought of something and exclaimed in shock, ”If the basilisk appeared here, then where did Harry go?”
