THE GOD EATER

Only by gaining strength can he solve the issue of being cheated by the sects, so he decided to keep his mouth shut about the matter and returned to working hard to increase his strength.

He continued earning money by gambling and spent the money he earned from gambling to buy Branch Metacs. Then he ate those Branch Metacs like he was eating candy while he watched worlds subdued and listened to mortals lamenting the exorbitant price of Branch Metacs.

However, the way the mortals were complaining about the expensive Branch Metacs now reminded him of how he was complaining about the sect’s exploitation of divine beings.

This made him say to himself, ’I guess this is how the world works. The sect makes things difficult for us divine beings, and I make things difficult for you mortals. This is the food pyramid.’

’The sects are on top of this food pyramid. The mortal slaves who aren’t allowed to cultivate are at the very bottom of it. These cultivating mortals are somewhere in between based on their cultivation.’

When he said this, he remembered what position he was in when he was still working on Skarg’s farm. This made him shake his head and think, ’I guess I’ve come a long way from the slave I used to be. I am now close to the top of the food pyramid. It has only been what? Twenty years?’

He chuckled in amusement as he thought to himself, ’It has truly been an impressive rise to power. With my current power, I can decide to give up, and with some luck, I can live forever. But that is not enough for me.’

’What use is living forever if I am still a slave? I may no longer be a slave to Skarg and the Rein Family, but I am still a slave to the sect. I am still toiling away to give them a hundred years of my lifespan every ten years for something they can take away from me.’

At this point, his face became hardened, his will became firm, and his eyes became full of determination as he said to himself, ’Until I gain complete and total freedom, I won’t be content. If the sects will have to perish for me to get my freedom, then they must come crashing down.’

Just like that, he promised himself to destroy the sects so as to secure his freedom. He won’t be the first to make such a promise.

Many people have also sworn oaths to be the cause of the downfall of the sects. But time and time again, the sects have stood strong.

In fact, not only have the sects remained, but the sects have also become stronger. It is as if the determination and effort of everyone beneath them who wants to destroy the sects have only gone to help the sect expand.

So if a Dao Lord were to hear Loki’s promise to himself, that Dao Lord would probably be amused. The Dao Lord might snort or sneer.

There are a lot of possible reactions of a Dao Lord towards Loki’s promise, but it is unlikely that any Dao Lord would take him seriously because of his promise. This may be due to the pride of Dao Lords, but it is also unlikely for other divine beings like him, who are weaker than Dao Lords, to take him seriously.

Loki continued to wait for three months until it was time for the Heavenly Battlefield of the medium world. He finally left his room and appeared in the world on the day that the soldiers who would participate in the Heavenly Battlefield were to assemble.

The soldiers were congregating on the airship when he suddenly appeared. He didn’t speak to anyone. He simply grabbed one of the rank 5 cultivators. Then he soared into the sky and left with the rank 5 cultivator.

The rank 5 cultivator he grabbed had blue eyes and blue hair. For a mortal, this mind hunter looked completely normal.

Even with Loki examining him with the Insight Stat, he saw nothing amiss about the mind hunter. The mind hunter looked normal from head to toe.

Everything about the mind hunter looked ordinary, including the mind hunter’s mental world. When anyone looks at him, all they will see is a rank 5 cultivator and only a rank 5 cultivator. But Loki wasn’t fooled by this facade.

He had grabbed the mind hunter by the neck like he was some helpless chick. His grip on the mind hunter’s neck was too firm and painful, but the mind hunter didn’t dare express any pain.

To express pain was to express dissatisfaction with being grabbed like this. To express dissatisfaction with being grabbed like this is to disrespect a divine being.

As a mortal, he can’t afford to disrespect a divine being, so he could only plaster a smile on his face despite the pain. He didn’t even dare to wince because of the pain. His fear of the divine being that had grabbed him was far greater than any pain that he was feeling.

The mind hunter smiled nervously and said to Loki with a humble tone, “What can I do for you, sir? I hope I can be helpful because I don’t have anything that you might want.”

Loki looked at him and smiled before saying, “I know what you are.”

The mind hunter became confused by what he said. His face was full of confusion as he said, “What do you mean, sir?”

In response, Loki laughed and said, “Very good performance. It is very convincing.”

Then he shook his head and said with a sorrowful tone, “Unfortunately for you, I am not fooled by your theatrics. It is truly a pity for you.”

At this point, the mind hunter knew that he had been discovered and couldn’t muddle his way out of this. So his face became contorted with anger as he said, “What do you want to do? What do you want from me?”
