The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 533: Chapter 302: Return to the First Crime Scene (Part 2)

”Is this clue reliable?”

Mr. Fu’s tone suddenly turned serious.

”There should be no problem.”

Jiang An said assuredly, ”Her husband never usually goes to such places, but that night he was indeed driven mad.”

”That night, Wang Jun not only unusually went to a salon but also gave a generous tip to the girl.”

Immediately, after hearing this, Mr. Fu fell into a long silence.

He replayed every detail of last night’s contact with Li Guang in his mind.

After a long while, he hesitantly said, ”I found nothing suspicious when I contacted Li Guang last night.”

Jiang An’s voice turned low, ”My intuition tells me that things won’t be this simple.”

”If that’s really the case...”

Mr. Fu’s voice suddenly turned grave, ”Then the problem is serious.”

”This means we might have completely misdirected ourselves, and the real culprit is still at large...”

Suddenly, Mr. Fu slapped his forehead, as if he had suddenly remembered something.

”That’s it!”

He raised his voice and said, ”Last night, when I visited Li Guang, I found his interest in the nature of Wang Cuilan’s death very unusual.”

”He kept asking repeatedly whether the case was classified as a suicide.”

Now it seems, this peculiar concern appears somewhat out of place.”

Jiang An immediately asked, ”Did he deliberately hide anything about their emotional entanglements?”

”Not at all!”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An fell into deep thought.

”If it wasn’t suicide... then...”

He murmured to himself, ”Wait, you just said he was particularly interested in the nature of the death...”

Jiang An suddenly said, ”Could Li Guang be the one we’re looking for?”

Mr. Fu immediately understood, ”That’s right, this unusual concern likely indicates he knows the inside story.”

”Moreover, we’ve checked the deceased’s call records, confirming that the deceased’s husband, Wang Jun, did make a call at 8:30 the night of the incident, and the breathing sounds mentioned in the call have also been confirmed.”

”This creates a contradiction.”

Jiang An stood up and paced, ”If Li Guang was the last person to see the deceased.”

”And Wang Jun spoke with the deceased over the phone that night... could there be a third party involved?”

”That’s impossible!”

Mr. Fu said firmly, ”We’ve visited all the neighbors, and no one reported the deceased having any other intimate relationships.”

Suddenly, his voice lowered, ”Unless... Li Guang is lying.”

”Damn it!”

Mr. Fu suddenly slapped the table, ”Could he have played us?”

He quickly threw off the covers and jumped out of bed, glancing at his watch—it’s only 6:30 in the morning.

”Mr. Jiang, I’m taking people there immediately, this time we must get him to talk!”

Thirty minutes later, a police car stopped once more in front of Li Guang’s house.

In the morning mist, this solitary house looked particularly desolate.

Unlike the other neighbors’ homes, which were filled with the smoke and noise of people, Li Guang’s residence was eerily quiet.

”Knock knock knock!”

Mr. Fu forcefully knocked on the door, so hard it seemed like he was going to smash through it.

With a creak, the door opened.

Li Guang appeared at the door, wearing slippers.

When he saw who it was, a flash of panic crossed his face, but he quickly forced a smile.

”Mr. Fu, is there something you need to ask so early?”

Mr. Fu said nothing, he darted forward and pressed Li Guang to the ground.

”Still pretending!”

He shouted harshly, ”Were you lying to us last night?”

”You were the last person to have contact with Wang Cuilan!”

Pressed to the ground, Li Guang let out a shriek like a pig being slaughtered, ”I’m innocent! It really wasn’t me!”

”I didn’t do anything!”

”We haven’t even asked for specifics, and you’re eager to deny them!”

Jiang An looked down coldly at him, ”Isn’t that a guilty conscience?”

Thirty minutes later, Li Guang was taken into the Criminal Investigation Division’s interrogation room.

Being in the interrogation room for the first time made this usually well-groomed man lose his calm completely.

As soon as he sat down, he started pounding on the interrogation chair.

”On what basis are you arresting me?”

”What does Wang Cuilan’s death have to do with me?”

”I’m innocent! I didn’t do anything!”

Mr. Fu sneered and slammed a stack of documents heavily on the table.

”Quite the performance, huh?”

”If we hadn’t found the key evidence, you would have fooled us.”

”What did you say during your first interrogation?”

”Only that you saw her that morning?”

Mr. Fu suddenly leaned forward and pressed, ”Then why did we find male fluid in the deceased’s body?”

As soon as he said that, Li Guang’s demeanor instantly deflated, and he slumped in the chair like a punctured balloon.

His eyes flickered, and sweat beaded on his forehead.

”What? Hit the mark, did I?”

Mr. Fu keenly caught the change in his expression.

Wan, who was taking notes, seized the opportunity and asked, ”Did you meet with the deceased that night?”

Seeing no response from Li Guang, Mr. Fu sternly warned, ”Confess honestly! Otherwise, we can immediately apply for your criminal detention!”

The interrogation room fell into a deathly silence, broken only by the hum of the air conditioner.

After a long time, Li Guang finally raised his head, his voice hoarse, ”I admit... I did have relations with Cuilan that night.”

”But I swear I didn’t kill her!”

”She was still fine when I left; she said she was going to do laundry... I really don’t know how she could have later...”

”What time did you leave?”

Mr. Fu interrupted his defense.

”Around... ten o’clock, I suppose.”

Li Guang wiped his sweat.

”You know relationships like ours can’t stand the daylight...”

”Impossible?”

Mr. Fu slammed the table, ”Your affair isn’t a secret to the neighborhood; you’re still arguing!”

At this point, Jiang An raised his hand to signal a pause.

He carefully observed Li Guang’s anxious expression, then suddenly turned and said, ”Senior brother, please immediately collect his blood sample for a detailed genetic comparison with the female fluid.”

”Yes!”

The subsequent interrogation lasted for another two hours?

Despite Mr. Fu exhausting every method, Li Guang consistently maintained the narrative of his improper relationship with the deceased, resolutely denying the murder charges.

At eight o’clock in the morning, in the Criminal Investigation Team’s meeting room,

Li Jian and Mr. Ma entered one after the other.

Although Jiang An had vowed to solve the case within three days,

two days had already passed, and the case had reached a deadlock.

The two leaders came specifically to understand the progress of the investigation.

”How’s it going?”

Li Jian asked bluntly.

Jiang An shook his head, and the detectives in the meeting room were all dejected.

Li Jian surveyed the room and frowned, ”Faced with a problem?”

Before Jiang An could answer, Wan stood up and couldn’t hold back, ”Reporting to the captain! This case is full of twists and turns.”

”Every time we find a clue, the trail goes cold.”

”We first suspected the deceased’s husband but he had an alibi.”

”Now we’ve found the deceased’s lover, but he completely denies it...”

”Have they all been cleared as suspects?” Mr. Ma asked sternly.

”Based on the existing evidence, Li Guang’s confession about their relationship seems to be true.”

”However, I don’t think he’s the murderer!”

Jiang An rubbed his temples, ”That’s precisely the tricky part.”

”Feels like there’s a key clue we’ve missed...”

Mr. Ma walked over to Jiang An and patted the young captain’s shoulder.

”Young man, it’s normal to hit a setback when solving a case.”

”I’ve handled more difficult cases than your traveled bridges.”

Mr. Ma scanned the room with bright eyes, ”But during these times, one must stay confident.”

The meeting room was silent; everyone looked at Mr. Ma.

”The Crime Scene is always the primary source of evidence.”

Mr. Ma said earnestly, ”When external investigations hit a deadlock, often it’s essential to return to the scene.”

”I firmly believe the place where the culprit had direct contact will always leave traces.”

These words were like a wake-up call, Jiang An stood up abruptly and solemnly saluted.

”Understood, Mr. Ma!”

”We’ll return to the scene immediately and conduct a comprehensive re-examination!”
