Nexus Ascension: My Comprehension Defies the Heaven

Chapter 358: The Dao Of Rebirth

As Grey focused, his vision flickered like a dying candle. The Nexus symbol dissolved into nothingness and the world twisted violently around him.

In a single heartbeat, he was gone.

He arrived in a space of pure, endless white. There was no sky, no ground, only infinite light. The moment Grey entered, a sharp chill shot down his spine. It was not cold. It was the heavy, crushing weight of ancient power.

He knew where he was. This was the domain of the Dao of Rebirth.

As soon as he entered the domain, whispers began to drift through the white void. They sounded old and distant, like echoes in a canyon.

”To live is to die...”

”To rise, you must fall.”

”The circle never breaks.”

Grey’s heart pounded. The murmurs grew louder, turning into a chant that vibrated in his chest. The air grew heavy, pressing down on him.

”END. BEGIN. REPEAT.”

”The Eternal Cycle of Rebirth.”

[Your comprehension defies the heavens! Hearing the Dao murmur, you have gained insight into the Myriad Laws of Chaos.]

For a split second, Grey’s entire head was filled with the deafening sound of the universe whispering its secrets.

His Myriad Laws of Chaos comprehension shot through the roof without stopping. Following that, another notification rang out with a crisp, golden sound.

[Your comprehension defies the heavens! Hearing the Dao murmur, you have successfully comprehended the Law of Death to Minor Succession.]

[You have successfully obtained the ability: Death Cycle Imprint.]

[Your comprehension defies the heavens! By comprehending the Law of Death, you have gained massive insight into the Myriad Laws of Chaos.]

Understanding and comprehension surged rapidly into Grey’s mind like a tidal wave. His Myriad Laws of Chaos comprehension had reached a whopping seventy percent.

He had even reached Minor Succession in the Law of Death.

It was amazing indeed, but that was not what concerned him right now.

The Dao had appeared before him.

The white void parted and a massive presence descended.

It was a colossal Wheel floating in the void. It was larger than a mountain, forged from golden light and cracked stone. It turned slowly, grinding the air with a sound like thunder.

Just looking at it made Grey’s mind go blank.

It was terrifying. It was magnificent.

The Wheel stopped turning. A deep, ancient voice rolled over Grey.

[O’ Mortal, why have you sought an audience with us?]

Grey immediately became baffled.

”You can speak?”

The Dao did not answer. It stood in the void, turning slowly and ominously.

Since no reply came, Grey decided to be swift with his goal. The thing he was dealing with was a Dao. A power above the laws. A Dao represented the absolute authority of a concept.

The Dao of Rebirth governed the entire river of reincarnation and had influence over fate itself. This was a conceptual entity that could end his life if he spoke wrongly.

”Dao of Rebirth, I require your powers!” Grey said loudly.

”I am forging a new path. The path of absolute perfection.”

”This path will one day overtake the endless reality and the heavens itself. To do that, I require your power.”

”For my Shattering Realm, I seek to reforge oneself to reach a higher perfection. For that, I require the power of rebirth.”

”I ask you, please lend me your powers, Dao of Rebirth.”

”I am willing to form a contract with you.”

The Wheel of Rebirth floated in the void as absolute silence fell over the dimension.

Then, it shuddered.

It was as if it sensed something terrifying emanating from Grey. The massive Wheel rolled back, trembling in the void.

Grey was taken aback when he saw this.

Why is it trembling? Is it about to attack?

Just as he thought that, the void stirred and broke apart.

The next moment, Grey was back in the Creator Invocation space.

Grey was bewildered. But just as quickly, a beam of light shone from the void above.

The light shot directly into the Shattering Realm path that was connected to the Nexus symbol.

[Your comprehension defies the heavens! By observing the Light of Rebirth, you have gained insight into the Law of Life and Death.]

Grey immediately became speechless.

”What about the contract?” Grey whispered, baffled.

Did it already take something away from him? How come he did not feel anything different?

Without wasting time, he decided to descend to the inner space to ask the Fragment.

”You are back.” The Fragment came forward and revolved around Grey.

”Did the Dao of Rebirth reject you?” The Fragment asked with a chuckle. ”Do not worry. I forgot to tell you, but convincing a Dao to make a contract with you is very hard.”

Grey looked at it with a deadpan expression.

”I didn’t form a contract.”

”It is alright.” The fireball floated to Grey’s head and patted him slightly with its fiery hands.

Grey waved his hands and swatted the Fragment away, sending it shooting to the ground.

”Never do that again.” Grey glared at the Fragment of the Heavenly Dao. ”But I think you should see this.”

As he said that, Grey highlighted the interface and projected the Creator Invocation space.

”What?” The Fragment immediately became dumbfounded.

”You... you just said that you did not form a contract, didn’t you?”

”I am not sure if I formed a contract or not,” Grey replied helplessly. ”I stated my intent and it just trembled in the void for a second. Then I was back here with the Shattering Realm fully ready to use.”

”Wait. Let me see your soul.”

The Fragment shot into Grey’s body and arrived inside his soul. Immediately, a flabbergasted expression appeared on its fiery face.

After coming out, it stammered. ”Y-You... what did you do to the Dao of Rebirth? Did you threaten it into giving you its power?”

”No! How is that even possible?” Grey looked completely baffled.

Threatening the Dao of rebirth, isn’t that basically asking for instant death?

”It did not ask you for a contract and I do not sense one either.”

”Since when did the Great Daos become generous?” It did not know whether to laugh or cry. ”No, the Great Daos do not even know what generosity is!”

”So there really wasn’t a contract.”

Grey was just as surprised as the Fragment.
