Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 883: Chapter 884: Please Do Not Give Up

Duan Aihua finished speaking and with a click, hung up the phone.

Tian Niu listened to the busy tone on the phone for a long time before he slowly, too, hung up the phone.

His mood was very heavy, as both choices were incredibly difficult for him.

It seemed that marrying Gu Shuangshuang really wasn’t an easy task.

With heavy steps, Tian Niu walked toward the cafeteria.

He quickly got two bowls of food and carried them back to the dormitory.

Opening the door, the girl on the bed was still sleeping soundly, blissfully unaware of what had happened outside.

Tian Niu didn’t have the heart to tell her the cruel news and decided to bear it all himself.

He composed himself and gently woke Gu Shuangshuang with a tap.

”Shuangshuang, it’s time to eat!”

Gu Shuangshuang woke from her dream and stretched lazily.

As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Tian Niu’s honest face, which today seemed somewhat unhappy.

”What’s wrong, Old Niu? Who’s upset you?”

”Unhappy, am I?” Tian Niu didn’t want Gu Shuangshuang to worry, and tried hard to squeeze out a smile.

”Of course, it’s all over your face.” Gu Shuangshuang said as she dressed, ”Let me guess. Did my mom call you again?”

Tian Niu looked at Gu Shuangshuang in surprise: ”How did you know?”

Gu Shuangshuang smiled: ”Since I’ve known you, hardly anything else has ever troubled you so. The last time you had this look was because of my mom’s obstruction! It must be the same now. So, what did she want to talk to you about?”

Tian Niu said gloomily, ”You’re better off not knowing, I don’t want to spoil your good mood too.”

”It’s okay, in one ear and out the other.” Over the years, living with Duan Aihua, there was hardly anything that could faze her.

And her mother calling Tian Niu was nothing more than to add to his worries.

Initially, Tian Niu hadn’t planned on telling her, but Shuangshuang saw through his thoughts with one glance.

So, Tian Niu had no choice but to relay Duan Aihua’s message to Gu Shuangshuang.

After listening, Gu Shuangshuang pondered and said, ”Compared to a promotion, saving money is much easier. If we save separately, I usually get a subsidy for going to school and my family also gives me some pocket money, I can save all that. You try to save as much as possible too – by the time we have five thousand, it should coincide with graduation and then we can get married.”

”It’s not a small sum.” Tian Niu’s stipend not only had to cover his own expenses but also take care of two elderly at home, and even the dowries for his older and younger sisters would ultimately be his responsibility!

So, to say that marrying Gu Shuangshuang back home was not an easy task was an understatement.

”What, you’re considering backing out?” Gu Shuangshuang looked at Tian Niu, her biggest worry surfacing.

She was aware of the situation at Tian Niu’s home.

So she understood Tian Niu’s feelings at the moment, she didn’t want to pressure him, but it would be regrettable if two people who were clearly in love didn’t try their best and ended up not together.

She walked over to Tian Niu, crouched beside him, buried her head in his lap, and whispered, ”I know it’s hard for you. I know, my mother’s demands are unreasonable. But for the sake of our love, please don’t give up so easily. I will also work hard to make money! Please believe that we can be together.”
