Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 872: Chapter 872: Escape in the Middle of the Night

Gu Shuangshuang stripped her bedsheets, cut them into strips with scissors, and then tied them all into tight knots.

She tied one end to the desk leg inside her room and threw the other end outside the window. Finding the length not enough, Gu Shuangshuang also took down the curtains and attached them!

Then she strapped on her backpack, climbed onto the windowsill, took a deep breath, gritted her teeth and shut her eyes, and began to descend, clinging to the sheets.

Even if she were to fall to her death, she had accepted it!

Life is certainly precious, love even more so, but for freedom’s sake, both can be forsaken!

She craved freedom! The freedom to breathe freely, to love freely!

Downstairs, Li Zhi had not slept all night.

Even though he knew that Gu Shuangshuang didn’t love him, deciding not to cling to her was not easy.

So he had brought out his father’s wine and poured himself drink after drink in memory of his dead romance.

He had already drunk enough to feel tipsy and was just about to go to sleep when suddenly he spotted a dark shadow climbing down from the window above.

Li Zhi broke into a cold sweat, his first thought was that it was a thief.

This alarm was enough to sober him up completely.

Knowing this was a military compound that was tightly guarded with sentry posts and patrolling guards at night, so secure that not even a fly could get in, how could there be a thief?

The only possibility was that the person upstairs was up to no good.

Gu Shuangshuang!!!

Li Zhi was startled, his back drenched in cold sweat at the thought of the audacious girl not being afraid of falling!

Even if she didn’t die, she would surely break at least a leg!

Li Zhi banged the window open with a crash and yelled at Gu Shuangshuang, ”Have you lost your mind?”

Gu Shuangshuang had summoned all her courage to climb down from the second floor. Just when she was about to reach the first floor, a meter from the ground, Li Zhi flung the window open with a bang and bellowed at her.

Gu Shuangshuang nearly had an out-of-body experience from fright, her grip loosened and she plummeted to the ground with a thud.

She landed with a painful smack on her backside, not dead or crippled, but in such pain that she couldn’t get up for a long while.

Seeing her in bad shape, Li Zhi didn’t bother with the door and jumped straight out the window to help Gu Shuangshuang!

”Li Zhi, damn you, don’t touch me, do you want to scare me to death?” Gu Shuangshuang, annoyed and embarrassed, glared at Li Zhi.

”Do you have a death wish?” Li Zhi was also full of anger, grinding his teeth as if he wanted to give Gu Shuangshuang a beating, ”Come on! Come home with me!”

”I won’t go back! I’m going to find Tian Niu!” Gu Shuangshuang said stubbornly.

”Don’t even think about it, I won’t let you leave. You must listen to Aunt Duan, she’s doing this for your own good,” Li Zhi said as he grabbed Gu Shuangshuang’s hand, trying to pull her up.

”I’m not going.” Gu Shuangshuang pleaded with Li Zhi, ”Please let me go just this once, as if you never saw me!”

Li Zhi looked at her, unmoved.

After waiting in vain for a response, Gu Shuangshuang lowered her gaze and said softly, ”Ever since I can remember, my parents have always been fighting. They were introduced to each other and weren’t deeply in love. My mother was drawn to my father’s career, and my father to my mother’s looks. At first, we got by, but later their marital issues became very apparent. Their constant fights meant they often forgot to cook for me, to pick me up from kindergarten, and even forgot to take me to the doctor when I was sick and feverish. Since then, I’ve thought, I must marry a man I love, and maybe a man who loves me... Can you understand how I feel, Li Zhi?”
