Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 879: Chapter 879: Don’t Hurt Her Heart

”No, no! I’m afraid your mom will really get angry with you!” He didn’t want to cause any rifts between Gu Shuangshuang and her mother because of him.

”She’ll have to deal with it! By the time we turn raw rice into cooked rice, she’ll have no choice but to watch helplessly!” Gu Shuangshuang felt happier the more she thought about it, ”If she dares to interfere then, that would be sabotaging a military marriage!

Feeling increasingly confident about her plan, Gu Shuangshuang decided, ”That’s it, I’m doing it!”

”Don’t be impulsive! You’re still in the learning phase. Let’s talk about this after you graduate! Maybe by then I’ll have earned some military merits and could be promoted to a regimental commander or something! At that time, I’ll marry you and take you back to the Tian Family with great fanfare! Within a year, you’ll bear me a chubby grandson for my mom!” Tian Niu hugged Gu Shuangshuang, dreaming of the future.

”Okay, I’ll listen to you,” Gu Shuangshuang said, and her eyelids grew heavy until she couldn’t keep them open anymore.

Tian Niu kissed her forehead and held her tightly in his arms, and the two of them fell into a deep sleep.

..............................

For Li Zhi, this night was yet another sleepless one.

This little warehouse was simply no place for a human.

Not only was it suffocatingly hot at night, but the mosquitoes were everywhere, buzzing around his ears like bombers.

The damn soldiers were too cruel not to leave him a single mosquito coil.

Bitten all over, with his body covered in bumps and itching fiercely, Li Zhi finally couldn’t stand it anymore and stepped out into the parade ground.

He’d rather sleep on the grass than go back to that tiny warehouse.

Li Zhi lay on the grass and gazed solemnly at the star-filled sky, letting out a deep sigh.

He decided he would stay here for one day and then leave. Gu Shuangshuang was happy here, but for him, this place was a punishment!

Out of sight, out of mind!

That was all he could do for Gu Shuangshuang now.

Somehow making it through till dawn, Li Zhi drifted into a drowsy sleep.

He had barely slept for two hours when he was awakened by the wake-up call.

Li Zhi turned over groggily and fell back into a deep sleep.

Before long, the orderly chants and footsteps from the training ground disturbed his sleep.

He sat up, his hair a scrambled mess, and the warriors burst into laughter upon seeing him.

”What’s so funny? Who’s laughing at me?” Tian Niu shouted angrily with a stern face.

Immediately, everyone shut up and resumed running in unison.

After running a couple of laps, Tian Niu came back and stood in front of Li Zhi.

He bent down and saw his face and body were covered with a dense array of mosquito bites.

”Why didn’t you sleep inside?” Tian Niu sat down and asked.

”With a room full of fighters, could I get any sleep?” Li Zhi glared at Tian Niu, irritated.

”Why didn’t you light a mosquito coil?”

”Go ask your soldiers!”

”What? Did they give you a hard time?”

”Your well-trained subordinates are devoted only to you!” Li Zhi lay down with his hands behind his head, looking up at the sky, and said, ”I know you all can’t wait for me to leave, rest assured, I’ll go first thing tomorrow. Today, lend me Gu Shuangshuang for the day.”

”For what?”

”I’m having her show me the way to town, I want to visit a sister!” Li Zhi said earnestly.

”Sure, no problem. I’ll have someone take you guys! Just make sure to take good care of Shuangshuang,” Tian Niu agreed.

”Alright,” Li Zhi nodded and after a moment of silence, he suddenly looked up at Tian Niu and said, ”He loves you so much, he’s willing to break with his own mother for you! You have to love her well too, and never ever break her heart!”
