Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 855: Chapter 855: Fiery Love Poem

Xiaolin was unwilling to agree to anything, so the warriors began to snatch the notebook from each other, tossing it from hand to hand in an airborne ballet. Eventually, with an especially forceful throw by someone, the notebook arced through the air and disappeared into the unknown.

The moment Xiaolin saw his notebook go missing, he panicked, ”Find my book—quick! Otherwise, I’m really going to be upset with you guys!”

Seeing Xiaolin’s desperation, the warriors stopped teasing him.

They split up to search for it.

They traced the path the notebook might have taken but after scouring the flowerbeds by the roadside, there was still no sign of Xiaolin’s notebook.

”It’s too dark to search now. How about we look for it tomorrow?” one warrior suggested.

”No way, we need to find it today. What if someone else picks it up tomorrow?” Xiaolin disagreed at all costs.

”What’s so important about that book? What did you write in there?”

”Yeah, just some mushy poetry, right!?”

”Even so, we must find it!” The poetry wasn’t trivial—it was the love poems he wrote silently each night by the window for his girlfriend.

Seeing how resolute Xiaolin was, the warriors had no choice but to continue the search.

Finally, one warrior suggested they go back and get a flashlight before resuming the search.

Xiaolin agreed.

The group of warriors headed back to the barracks.

On the way back to the family quarters, Xin Ni opened the little notebook under an isolated streetlight.

It was full of fervent love poems, so passionate they made one’s face flush and one’s ears burn with every read.

It seemed this young warrior was very much smitten!

Xin Ni thought to herself!

Thus, a bold scheme formed in her mind!

She had to see An Hao ruined and discredited!

However, the plan couldn’t be executed just yet. She needed to wait for the right moment to expose An Hao before everyone’s eyes.

Only by destroying her could Xin Ni relieve the hatred weighing on her heart!

.................................

In the blink of an eye, the time arrived for the 1st of August celebration.

That evening, everyone attended the summer soiree, watching a colorful array of performances arranged by the warriors themselves.

After the performances, the commander’s wife led the group in a rehearsed ballroom dance.

The dance music began, and Qin Jian took An Hao out onto the dance floor, following the arranged formation.

They had practiced for a long time, and by showtime, each couple danced beautifully.

An Hao and Qin Jian were selected to lead the dance due to their exceptional performance.

She wore a fiery red gown, while Qin Jian was dressed in his crisp military uniform. Her hands lay on his shoulders, twirling and swaying to the music.

From a distance, Qin Jian looked like a tall, straight pine tree, and An Hao was the blazing red kapok standing proudly beside it.

Their graceful dancing drew round after round of applause.

Xin Ni sat among the crowd, watching An Hao on stage, silently thinking: Keep smiling, for in a moment, I will make sure you can’t even find a place to cry!

After the ballroom dance finished, An Hao and Qin Jian stepped off the stage and found a spot in the hall to watch the rest of the show.

Lately, Qin Jian would leave right after dancing with An Hao each night. Today was no exception. After watching some of the performance with her, he left early, busy with writing combat plans and devising training schedules.

Once Qin Jian left, An Hao was alone in the hall, watching the performance.
