Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1349: Chapter 1350: No Longer a Rootless Drifter

The case with the Loo Family and Jiang Conghe was settled, which brought a bit more of a smile to Qi Taiguo’s face, and Cheng Su also felt at ease. After all, she no longer had to constantly worry about when their lives might be disturbed or threatened.

As she watched the construction in the factory area slowly nearing completion, and the market in Guangcheng gradually opening up, Cheng Su increasingly felt a sense of stability and comfort in her life.

The only regret was that despite her and Qi Taiguo’s efforts over the years, a child had yet to come into their lives.

In mid-November, the Cheng family called to say that the old master would be celebrating his seventieth birthday at the end of the month and invited Cheng Su to bring Qi Taiguo to join the celebration and feast.

In addition to this, they hinted at formalizing the godparent relationship during the birthday banquet, creating a double celebration.

After hanging up, Cheng Su still felt a bit unreal. They hadn’t mentioned the godparent matter for some time, and she thought the Cheng family had dropped the idea. Who would have thought that they wanted to formalize it during the old master’s birthday celebration.

The old master’s seventieth birthday, and the Cheng family being such a significant family, the celebration would certainly not be small, with distinguished guests invited. Recognizing the godparent relationship in such a setting was meant to elevate her status, to cherish her.

Priceless is this sense of worth!

Thinking about this, Cheng Su couldn’t help but feel moved, her eyes slightly moistening.

”Getting so emotional over a phone call, at this rate, a few more like this and the house will be flooded,” Qi Taiguo teased, handing her a handkerchief.

Cheng Su took it and wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes, giving him a playful glare, ”You’re not me, how could you understand how I feel?”

Leaning on his shoulder, she said, ”In a previous life, when I began to understand things, I hoped that someone would come to the orphanage and choose me, take me away. But time after time, it was always other kids who were chosen. No one wanted me.”

Qi Taiguo’s heart tightened, and he hugged her shoulders, gently patting her.

”Do you know what that feels like? It’s like being a piece of merchandise, displayed there, eagerly watching the people who come by, almost speaking out to adopt me, buy me. That feeling of being scrutinized and assessed, it’s like being pricked by needles, yet for the chance to be taken away, I still had to show a naive smile.”

Recalling that life, Cheng Su thought that her later choice to work in the hotel industry was because she had learned from a young age to read people, which is why she thrived in her job, as being observant is a key skill needed in the hotel industry.

But it was truly exhausting!

”To be judged and scrutinized like that, yet still not chosen, with no one wanting me,” Cheng Su said with a forlorn smile, ”I even wondered if there was something I did wrong, or why else wouldn’t anyone want me!”

”You’re wonderful, it’s just that they were blind not to see your worth!” Qi Taiguo reassured her.

Cheng Su looked up and smiled slightly, ”Later, I stopped hoping. When people came to adopt, I no longer acted like a puppy trying to win their favor because I knew it was futile. For the first half of my life, I wasn’t treasured, but in this life, even just being recognized as a godchild, Old Master Cheng cherishes me so much. How could I not feel grateful and moved by that?”

Qi Taiguo looked at her, ”Don’t forget, there’s also me!”

Cheng Su nodded and leaned back, ”Yes, there’s also you!”

In her previous life, she had no relatives, no dependents. Reborn into this life, though living in another’s body, taking her place, she gained love, family, friendship.

It was enough, she shouldn’t be greedy. With people cherishing her this much, she was no longer a rootless weed like in her former life. This, was enough!
