Chapter 942: Sacrifices are inevitable

In the Kingdom, Arabel closed her eyes and bit her lip.

Unlike her avatar, who was able to suppress her emotions thanks to the bloodline of the Ice Valkyrie, the death of the girls deeply hurt her and became a reminder.

No matter how strong they are, they are not omnipotent or omniscient. The world is huge and cruel, and no matter how hard they try, they canʼt be everywhere and help everyone.

Sacrifices are inevitable.

But whatʼs worse, the girls didnʼt die from an anomaly, a natural disaster, or an attack by a predatory beast.

They became victims of human hands.

All this time, she was in the Kingdom and watched as the cities on the Federation map disappeared one by one, swallowed up by the anomaly. She understood that thousands of people were dying with the disappearance of these cities.

However, even then, this knowledge did not touch her as much as the death of these girls.

This time, Arabel found herself at the center of this tragedy. She came as a savior, but she could not help them, but, on the contrary, became the cause of their death.

Her avatar, who was in Istel City, noticed that the members of the Titan Guild who appeared at the noise were not very surprised by what had happened and did not make a big fuss.

In order not to leave the bodies to the beasts, they put them in their magic bags and quietly continued their task.

Observing their behavior, Arabel realized that, unlike her and Idan, this was not the first Disaster for these Awakened Ones. And that there were no fewer victims during the previous Disaster than in this one.

It was just the first city on a long list that she was going to evacuate and try to save. It was her decision, and it went against the Federationʼs demands.

If not for her choice, all the inhabitants of this city would have been doomed to certain death.

Arabel decided to suppress her emotions and focus on the task at hand.

Many were waiting to be saved, and she couldnʼt give up after the first setback.

After the incident, Avatar Arabel returned to her duties.

One by one, the residents of the city, attracted by Aliyahʼs light, left their shelters. Some of them could reach the portal on their own, and for those who were weak and could not, members of the Titan Guild came to the rescue.

What happened to the girls was not an isolated incident. There were other similar and dissimilar incidents in the city, in which human cruelty was manifested.

The awakened Titan Guilds, who had seen the many dark sides of humanity, showed professionalism and quickly found a way out of difficult situations.

Thanks to the coordinated work of all the Awakened, the evacuation began to gain momentum.

Time was inexorably running forward, and no matter how hard Idan and Arabel tried, even before the evacuation of both cities was completed, a huge wall of fire appeared on the horizon to the south, and a wall of water to the west.

”After all, what we feared has happened,” Arabel said after receiving the latest data on the Anomalies and seeing how close they came to the cities.

”At this rate, they wonʼt make it in time.”

Leo, equally alarmed by the current situation, turned to Arabel, wanting to know what steps she was going to take.

”At this rate, we may not be able to evacuate all the residents of Norwood before the Northern Anomaly engulfs it,” Arabel concluded, after which her gaze turned to the east of the Federation.

”As for Grayvale, although the city is still far from the Eastern Anomaly, and the evacuation has already begun, it is much larger than Norwood and the remaining Borefield,” she mused.

The situation was not pleasant.

After thinking for a while, Arabel had to make a decision.

Floating above the city of Rowan, Idan watched the rapidly approaching wall of fire in the distance with a gloomy expression on his face.

After estimating the speed of the fire anomalyʼs spread, he also came to the conclusion that not all residents would be able to pass through the portal before it engulfed the city.

There were still too many of them.

”My crows have notified everyone they can find,” Crowey reported, appearing in front of Idan with black crow wings on his back.

Looking at the impending anomaly, Crowey said:

”This is the end of my duty. Iʼm leaving.”

”Iʼll leave some of my crows to watch the waves of beasts. If they show up, they will report to you immediately,” he added with slight fear, waiting for Idanʼs response.

During their brief time together, Crowey realized how great the difference in their powers was. Idan was awed by how quickly and easily he dealt with the waves of beasts that dared to invade the city.

”Okay,” Idan nodded after a short silence. He then thanked Crowey for helping with the evacuation: ”Thank you for your help, Crowey.”

After hearing Idanʼs reply and hearing his gratitude, Crowey felt relieved. He even allowed himself a slight smile, but because of the raven mask, Idan did not notice it.

He turned around and started flying away in the opposite direction from the city.

”See you soon, Crowey,” said Idanʼs voice from behind him.

”With all due respect, I hope not.”, — Crowey wanted to say it, but he didnʼt dare say it out loud.

As Crowley flew over the city, his crows began to join him, which were scattered throughout the city. Soon, he found himself surrounded by his loyal companions, forming a huge black cloud.

Then the crows scattered in different directions and disappeared into the night sky.

”Concealment the element of darkness?” Idan thought, and pulling out the {Whisper Talisman}, he was about to write to Arabel when he suddenly noticed a commotion at the portal below.

When he looked down and saw what was happening, he smiled.

”Apparently, Belle realized that I was not in time, and sent Lina to help me?” he thought, seeing how Lina, before she could exit the portal, was already opening a second access portal next to his own.
