Chapter 268: Nature of the side effect

Noticing Idanʼs expectant look, Geminia began the conversation by saying: ”Weʼre going to talk about Arabelʼs current condition.”

”Her condition has improved, but she still needs time.”

”Phew...” hearing these words, Idan exhaled with relief. Eulalia, who was sitting next to him, also smiled, glad that her younger friend was all right.

Geminia, who was watching their reaction, decided to explain.:

”The so-called ʼside effectʼ is still present. I helped Arabel deal with the negative reaction to using the Energy of Madness and taught her how to minimize the response in case of a repeat relapse.”

”Eh? Thatʼs what you meant.” Idan misunderstood her words at first, thinking that Geminia had helped to completely get rid of the side effect. But it turned out that this was not the case, she only helped to heal the damage Arabel had received after the last outbreak.

”Everyone has noticed that your relationship with Arabel has improved,” Geminia said, looking at Idan. ”Everyone also noticed Arabelʼs unhealthy strong attachment to you, Idan.”

Idan didnʼt deny what Geminia had just said. Even in Limbo, he sometimes noticed that Arabel showed possessive feelings. However, they were not as pronounced then as they are now. It was obvious that the side effect had greatly enhanced this trait of Arabelʼs character.

”Thatʼs Arabelʼs main problem, Idan. The side effect youʼre talking about doesnʼt exist for the most part. According to my observations, it looks more like a psychological trauma that affects exactly this trait of her character — Arabelʼs feelings for you, Idan,” Geminia concluded after observing Arabel.

”And the one who can help her overcome this trauma is you, Idan. You are the reason for everything that happens to her. Even when youʼre not around, her attention is almost always focused on you. It depends on you how Arabel will behave in a given situation,” Idan felt more and more uncomfortable with each word Geminia said.

After listening to Geminiaʼs opinion, Idan remembered what had caused all this—the Ascension Trial and the memory that the System had erased. He came to the conclusion that all of Arabelʼs problems and his own were once again connected to those ill-fated memories.

Idan began to suspect that it wasnʼt just Arabel who had suffered after the second Ascension trial, but himself as well.

His cold and indifferent attitude towards death is probably similar to the side effect Arabel is experiencing, but it manifests itself in a very different way. And unlike Arabel, itʼs not giving Idan much trouble at the moment.

Arabelʼs side effect is similar to how one personʼs feelings can affect another. Simply put, Arabelʼs feelings experienced during the Ascension trial have an impact on herself, even though she doesnʼt have those memories.

Idan did not understand at all what had happened to Arabel during the Ascension trial, and how Arabel had become so possessive of him during this trial that it continued to have a strong effect on her, even if she did not remember it.

”Therefore, I can only help her mitigate the consequences, but not eliminate the root cause of what is happening, not knowing what exactly triggered it,” Geminia said, realizing that she could not completely heal Arabel.

Idan understood that it was difficult for a person to cope with mental trauma without outside help. In Arabelʼs case, he was the main cause of her suffering.

Arabelʼs feelings for him were in turmoil. Yes, they became an official couple, and their relationship slowly but surely developed. However, it had been a little less than a month since Idan had asked her to be his girlfriend. He was aware that Arabelʼs feelings could not have been so strongly strengthened in such a short time to cause such a violent reaction.

It was obvious that these strong feelings of ownership were the emotions of Arabel from the ascension trial, the Arabel who had been exposed to the Energy of Madness. Idan couldnʼt imagine what crazy thoughts that version of Arabel had and how much the Energy of Madness had changed her attitude towards him.

It is this conflict between Arabelʼs feelings from the trial and her current feelings for Idan that prevents System from accurately determining the degree of her affection for him.

”Thank you very much, Geminia, for your help,” Idan thanked, having roughly realized what was happening to Arabel.

”How are you, Idan?” — Geminia asked, glaring at him. Although Idan looked quite healthy, Geminia had a feeling that there was something wrong with him too, although it wasnʼt noticeable at first glance. Because of that, Geminia wasnʼt sure.

”Iʼm fine, Geminia, thereʼs no need to worry,” Idan replied confidently. Suddenly, he felt baby Rizzy sending him a signal through their contract, telling him that she wanted to drink blood.

Idan called Rizzy with a smile, and she appeared, ignoring those around her, and immediately began searching for his finger. Idan, who was already used to this, held out his finger to her, and Rizzy, grabbing it and bringing it to her mouth, bit and began to drink blood. Only then did she start to look around.

”Little Rizzy!” exclaimed Eulalia when she saw Rizzy.

”Sheʼs grown up!” Geminia remarked, noting that Rizzy had become bigger than Izzy. The last time they saw them both, both babies were the same size. In addition, the hair on Rizzyʼs head has grown back and become thicker than Izzyʼs.

”Indeed!” — after Geminiaʼs words, Eulalia also noticed the changes and began comparing Izzy with Rizzy.

”How many days have passed?” Eulalia asked Idan.

”Just over three days,” Idan replied.

”How quickly she grew up!” exclaimed Eulalia, amazed by this fact.

”Thatʼs not surprising,” Geminia interjected. ”Idanʼs blood serves as a real source of nutrition for baby Rizzy, contributing to her rapid development.”

”Not just my blood,” Idan added. ” Rizzyʼs stay inside my Star also has a significant impact on her growth.”

Idan explained that after his departure, Rizzy spent most of her time inside the Star. He felt through the contract how much she enjoyed being inside, and how the Star had a positive effect on her development.

”It looks like the baby was doubly lucky,” Geminia said with a smile, realizing that not only Idanʼs blood, but also the very fact of signing a contract with him contributed to her growth. She couldnʼt even imagine how quickly she would grow up.

When Rizzy finished drinking, Idan and Eulalia put the two babies in the same crib to compare their height. It was obvious that Rizzy had become bigger than Izzy.

Suddenly, Rizzy noticed Izzy, but did not recognize her and, without hesitation, hit her in the face with her small fist. Izzy started crying from the blow she received from her sister.

”Rizzy!” called Idan, and the little girl immediately turned her gaze on him. It could be seen that not only had her height increased, but her understanding of the world around her had also increased noticeably.

”This is your little sister, Rizzy, donʼt hit her, — Idan said.

The little girl just blinked, not understanding what it meant.

Idan began trying to explain to the baby what a younger sister is.

Geminia and Eulalia couldnʼt help but smile as they watched Idan trying to convey this important truth to Rizzy.
