I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 1035: Chapter 1034: Drenched in Cold Sweat

According to Mom, there’s indeed something inside Hao Meili’s body. This thing won’t harm him for now, but it’s not impossible for it to cause harm. It likely needs a specific trigger for something to happen.

That’s why Mom gave him something for self-defense, just in case. However, he feels something’s not right, because given his parents’ usual concern for him, this shouldn’t be the only safeguard they provide.

After all, he rarely saw Mom being so solemn. When she is, it means the situation has exceeded her initial expectations. This suggests that someone might be secretly protecting him as well.

Luo Yirui has never doubted the love and care from his parents. Thus, he deduces that someone must be protecting him secretly, and this person should be Dad’s contact!

This reminded him of that first night he contacted his dad, the person who appeared in the darkness.

However, he’s not very sure if it’s the same group of people.

Beisitian could only explain briefly, so Luo Yirui could only analyze from some words his mom left behind. This was something Dad taught him, which his grandma thought he couldn’t learn or use yet.

In fact, considering the normal growth rate of a child, he indeed wouldn’t need these things. Not to mention whether he can use them or not, even learning them might not be possible. Even if he did, they wouldn’t merge with reality.

So, his dad’s teachings are extremely useful and crucial. Otherwise, he might be nervously holding onto the medication his mother gave him, exposing weaknesses. No, he might not have even lasted until now, choosing to retreat home at the first sign of trouble, leaving all the pressure to his parents.

”When you’ve had different experiences than your peers, you can no longer blend into their circles.”

These are the words of Uncle Chen Jinliang.

He’s already realized this some time ago.

This doesn’t mean he’s become more capable than his peers, only that he’s more mature, with different perspectives and thinking.

Luo Yirui calmed his emotions slightly, then turned to head back. Despite being quite apprehensive about those Vertical Pupils, he was immensely intrigued, thinking they might be something even his mom hadn’t experienced.

After this incident, it’s apparent that in some matters, Mom will let him be involved.

Perhaps it was this anticipation that made him feel less fearful deep down.

When he entered the villa, Mom and the man named Uncle Chu Fenglei had already left. Hao Jiacheng greeted him with a smile, his attitude visibly changed from before. It was clear Uncle Chu Fenglei had conveyed the importance of Hao Meili regaining her memories.

Luo Yirui turned and walked upstairs, stepping onto the second floor, and as he turned a corner, he saw Hao Meili standing there, her face unnaturally calm, without a hint of emotion, making her appear quite creepy and eerie.

”Where did you go?” Hao Meili asked.

This version of Hao Meili was different from her usual, always cheerful self — it was as if she had become another person.

Luo Yirui thought of something, and a chill ran down his spine.

”The doctor called me out to talk,” Luo Yirui replied.

”What did she say?” Hao Meili stared at him, expressionless.

Luo Yirui felt a chill in his heart; this Hao Meili was definitely not Hao Meili! His words might be misconstrued, but he knew what was happening.

Could it be suspicious?

For a moment, he thought about taking out the fighting talisman his mom gave him and throwing it, but after some consideration, he held back. In such uncertain circumstances, the best approach was to watch and wait.

There were many things Dad and Uncle Chen Jinliang taught him that he didn’t understand back then. But recently, these lessons kept flashing in his mind, like reminders, making him act more cautiously.

”She said to pay attention to Auntie’s mood, to keep you in a good state, otherwise it might not be conducive to recovery,” Luo Yirui said.

”What else did she say?”

”Nothing else.”

”Really nothing else?”

”That’s all.” Luo Yirui knew this might easily arouse suspicion, so he tried to divert the topic, ”Oh right, Auntie, have you remembered anything about some matters? The doctor told me to keep an eye on this, if Auntie recalls anything from before, I should know. Uncle Hao also told me to pay attention.”

Regaining memory was extremely important to Hao Jiacheng, just as it seemed crucial to Hao Meili. So, he used this matter as a way to shift the conversation.

Upon hearing this, Hao Meili let out a cold laugh, turned around and walked back. After a couple of steps, she turned back to stare at Luo Yirui, ”Stay by my side.”

Luo Yirui watched her fading figure, his heart trembling. He wasn’t sure if she had dispelled her doubts or was still suspicious. Yet, facing the recent Hao Meili made him feel chills all over!

Sometimes he pondered, does Hao Meili herself know her current condition? Is she aware but helpless, or is she completely unaware?

Luo Yirui planned to stay a bit at Jing Changle’s place. His clothes were soaked, and going back to change would be too suspicious. He could only wait until they dried. Though uncomfortable, there was no other way.

When he arrived at Jing Changle’s room, it seemed he had been waiting, as he promptly closed and locked the door once Luo Yirui entered.

”Did Auntie come by?” Jing Changle asked, more for confirmation, as he’d heard some noises.

Luo Yirui nodded. Having someone familiar nearby eased his fears, allowing him to finally relax slightly. He whispered, ”During this time, make sure not to be alone with Hao Meili. Avoid going out at night too!”

Seeing his serious expression, Jing Changle felt goosebumps and couldn’t help but ask again, ”Are you sure you still want to stay here?”

Aunt Bei and Uncle Luo cherished Luo Yirui dearly. Knowing the situation here, how could they let him stay so close to something so dangerous?

Jing Changle found it difficult to comprehend.

Luo Yirui gave a wry smile, ”It seems like I put myself into this inescapable situation.”

He recalled his mom’s words which implied that he couldn’t leave now, as leaving might be even more dangerous.

So perhaps he was too impulsive back then. Should he have retreated at the first sign of trouble?

Though acknowledging this might be more rational, even if he faced the same choice again, he feared he would make the same decision. This might be what Uncle Chen Jinliang meant when he mentioned how different age groups perceive and decide on the same matter entirely differently.
