I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 1023: Chapter 1022: Testing the Waters

Beisitian squinted her eyes, knowing that Luo Xudong sought her out late at night because he was worried about any potential danger to Luo Yirui.

Luo Xudong indeed had such concerns. When it came to matters concerning his son, he didn’t want to be careless at all, so while arranging for someone to investigate, he also got in touch with Beisitian to see if she knew about it and if it was related to the Mystic Doctor.

Beisitian reconnected with Luo Xudong.

”I have a rough idea now. From the description, it shouldn’t be a problem for the time being. But I’ll find a time to check it out.” Beisitian said.

Luo Xudong softly hmm-ed in response. ”What is it?”

Because of his unique position, he often dealt with such bizarre matters, so he wasn’t particularly shocked when he heard about it. Strange as it was, there were always clues to follow.

Beisitian shared her suspicions with Luo Xudong in a low voice. It was indeed related to the Mystic Doctor, but it wasn’t a typical method of theirs.

”I need to see it first before I can make a definitive conclusion. If it really is as I suspect, then it could be quite troublesome.”

This trouble was directed at the Mystic Doctor.

”Take it easy. I’ll arrange for someone to protect you and Little Rui secretly.” Luo Xudong said.

The reason for dispatching two teams was to protect both people; primarily Luo Yirui, while also sparing a few to guard Beisitian.

Luo Xudong hadn’t mentioned this to her before because she had firmly refused it, and he knew the fighting capability of the people on her side, so most of the resources were focused on Luo Yirui.

Hearing Luo Xudong’s assurance, Beisitian didn’t argue further. Given the uncertain situation, having additional protection was indeed beneficial.

Luo Yirui quickly received a call from his father. Hearing his father say to stay put for the time being, he breathed a sigh of relief. Since his father said so, there shouldn’t be any problem.

He lay in the room until morning with Jing Changle, both unable to sleep. Every time Luo Yirui closed his eyes, he saw those terrifying vertical pupils, so he ended up staring into the darkness until daylight.

Hao Meili, just like previous nights, roamed around until four in the morning and was back in her room before dawn.

Luo Yirui finally understood why Hao Meili always seemed so exhausted. He had initially thought it was her recent illness causing it, but it turned out she wasn’t sleeping at night.

In the morning, when Luo Yirui heard a knock on the door, he immediately got up, and Jing Changle grabbed the ashtray from the bedside table. They exchanged a look and walked to the door together.

Luo Yirui took a deep breath and opened the door, and there, standing, was indeed Hao Meili!

The Hao Meili he saw last night, under the moonlight with those vertical pupils, seemed unreal, almost like a descending demon.

But now, Hao Meili appeared to be the real Hao Meili again. Her anxious expression eased upon seeing Luo Yirui.

”So, you ran back to sleep. I got scared when I didn’t see you at first glance.” Hao Meili said with a smile, shaking her head.

Luo Yirui slightly lowered his eyes, then looked up and said, ”Last night I woke up to go to the bathroom and realized I was sleeping alone. It scared me a bit, so I came to find my friend.”

After saying this, he stared directly at Hao Meili’s expression.

Hao Meili gently touched his head, saying, ”Sleeping alone can indeed be scary. Why don’t you come to my room to sleep at night?”

It’s unclear whether she misunderstood or deliberately used this as an excuse to brush things off. Either way, her answer left Luo Yirui without a rebuttal and unable to find a flaw.
