I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 949: Chapter 948: Evading

Mr. Zhao didn’t go to the big hospital; they didn’t have the money for more check-ups. But judging by Zhao Run Tian’s condition, he was certainly cured. They firmly believed that a child sent by heaven had come to save the Zhao family.

”Father, you always said you were naively good, but I was wrong. If you hadn’t accumulated a lifetime of virtue, Runtian surely wouldn’t have come back this time!” the woman said, her eyes moistening again.

Now, if it weren’t for her father-in-law’s accumulation of virtue and good deeds, she wouldn’t believe that heaven had sent a miracle, that it was impossible for a five-year-old child to cure diseases that many big hospitals couldn’t even begin to treat!

If it wasn’t a miracle, could a cure appear overnight? Even a top hospital in Beijing couldn’t achieve such results!

Zhao Run Tian also deeply felt the same; he had met the child, who was completely unlike an ordinary little boy—the eyes had a brilliance he’d never seen before!

The couple vowed to follow Mr. Zhao in accumulating virtue and doing good deeds. Mr. Zhao was also full of emotion; when he saved the child, he hadn’t thought of anything else. He didn’t even think about how his own family was struggling to eat, let alone having extra food for the child, but he saved him just the same!

”By the way, dad, that little miracle child also gave us three packs of medicine for mom, saying it would cure the damage to her health caused by years of overwork!” Zhao Run Tian repeated what Luo Yirui had said back then, although he didn’t quite understand what ’foundation’ meant, he knew it would cure his mom and she wouldn’t have to take medicine anymore.

The family joyfully returned home as Luo Yirui had already gotten off the tractor.

”Thank you, Uncle!” Luo Yirui said to the farmer driving the tractor.

The man waved his hand, a smile appearing on his dark-skinned face.

Luo Yirui asked about the location of the supply and marketing cooperative and headed there, thinking he would soon be able to contact his parents, feeling filled with joy and excitement, like a drifting boat finally reaching shore.

He ran towards the supply and marketing cooperative, passing by two village women. Seeing them smile at him, he smiled back and greeted them, but quickly his smile froze.

”Those two policemen just said they’d give money to anyone who found the child in the photo. I wonder if it’s true?”

”Of course it’s true! That’s called assisting in solving a case, and it’ll be credited as a good deed. Hey, do you think that child just now looked like the one in the photo?”

”Now that you mention it...”

The two village women looked at the photo and then up again, but the child who had greeted them was nowhere to be seen, leaving them wondering if they’d missed something.

Luo Yirui’s cheerful, excited mood vanished like a roller coaster; after hearing the women’s conversation, it suddenly plummeted to the depths!

Those policemen had already come here!

He couldn’t understand why the policemen, who were supposed to embody justice, would help those bad guys. Were they deceived by the bad guys, or were they all in cahoots and colluding with each other?

The child-like world inside Luo Yirui seemed on the verge of collapse; he thought good was good and bad was bad, but now he was confused.

The adult world is really complicated!

In his panic, Luo Yirui didn’t know where he ran to. Emerging from between the houses, he suddenly saw the supply and marketing cooperative, but he couldn’t feel any joy because two policemen were standing at the entrance!

Luo Yirui’s expression suddenly became tense. He slowly backed away, his figure disappearing back between the houses.

Leaning against the wall, Luo Yirui’s clothes were soaked with sweat. He held his breath, afraid to breathe heavily, as if fearing he’d be heard.

This village can’t be stayed in any longer. He must leave quickly!

But going outside meant facing the wild countryside—where could he go?

A small child clung tightly to the wall as if to gain some sense of security. His taut little face was full of seriousness as he quickly calculated what to do next.

Luo Yirui looked towards the distant mountains outside the village—should he head into the mountains?

But going into the mountains was too dangerous, especially for a child less than six years old. Even though his father often talked about the dangers in the mountains, they were just stories without firsthand experience.

Luo Yirui ultimately gave up that thought. For now, he had to figure out a way to leave the village.

In the village, doors are generally not locked during the day. Passing by a household, Luo Yirui saw rough clothes hanging in the courtyard, then looked at his own clothing.

Not only was it dirty, but it’s clear it wasn’t something a rural child would wear, which increased the chances of being exposed.

Luo Yirui stood between two houses looking at the opposite courtyard, noticing no one had come out for a while. He hesitated, then quietly entered the yard and grabbed clothes from the drying line.

”Who is it!”

An abrupt shout came from inside the house, frightening Luo Yirui. His heart almost jumped out, and he rushed away with the clothes in his arms.

The person inside was putting on shoes and ran out, but there was no trace of anyone. When they saw the empty clothesline, their heart sank, but looking down, they found a twenty-yuan note!

This twenty yuan was definitely not from their family. Although the area was poor, making twenty quite a big deal, and they knew exactly how many large notes were in the house. Was it left by the little thief?

Since money was left, it seemed unfair to call them a thief. The person cheerfully picked up the money; the clothes were for a child, homemade and not worth twenty yuan, which was surely a gain!

Luo Yirui ran far, his heart still racing. Although taking without asking might be considered stealing, he left money, so it wasn’t really stealing!

Such excitement came and went quickly, somewhat offsetting his dejection.

”I cannot give up. Mom said there’s never an absolute dead end in the world; there will always be a way forward!” Luo Yirui said as he put on the rough clothes, which fit him perfectly.

His eye was accurate; it was the clothes he’d been watching for a long time.

After donning the clothes, Luo Yirui grabbed some dirt from the ground and smeared it on his face and hands. He had observed the children in the village, whose faces and hands were often dirty because, unlike in the city, village children were raised ruggedly, without fuss.

Although Luo Yirui was also rugged, he had delicate skin; even with rough clothes, without dirt for disguise, he could still be distinguished from village kids.

Now at least at a glance, others wouldn’t suspect anything!

After disguising himself, Luo Yirui stepped out of the corner, walking towards the village outskirts along secluded paths. Just as he was about to leave the village, a voice suddenly rang out behind him, causing his entire body’s hairs to stand on end.

”Luo Yirui?!”
