I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 936: Chapter 935: Talent Show and All That

Not fitting in?

Beisitian looked up at her, somewhat disinterested in answering such a question. It felt like talking to a child who wasn’t quite all there.

Not cooperating with you means not fitting in? Your childish provocation tactics are outdated by eight hundred years. Besides, even if it’s about arts and literature, it’s all voluntary. Is there really someone forcing others into it?

Seeing Beisitian’s lack of tact and her refusal to take the bait, Yuan Tong felt even more frustrated, and her gaze at Beisitian darkened.

But there was nothing she could do about Beisitian. She couldn’t very well have a shouting match with her in front of so many people; that would be too embarrassing, and she’d never be able to mix in these circles again.

A girl who came over with Yuan Tong sneered and said, ”Xiaotong, stop it. She’s just afraid.”

Having the stairs to step down, Yuan Tong showed a bitter smile, sighed, and seemed unsure of what to say.

Beisitian simply ignored their emotional attacks. She attended this party to ’build a good relationship’ with Zhan Hongjun and to gauge Gu Haiqing. Competing in arts with a group of girls who don’t even have boyfriends seemed pointless.

Though Gao Shanshan would remind Beisitian, her family background was far less than Yuan Tong’s, so she didn’t speak up when Yuan Tong was pressuring Beisitian.

Being only a casual acquaintance with Beisitian, she spoke up because she couldn’t stand Yuan Tong, but she’s not obligated to help anyone.

”What makes you think she doesn’t dare?”

The words came from Gu Haiqing. Not only were Yuan Tong and the others surprised that the usually aloof Gu Haiqing would speak up for Beisitian, but even Beisitian herself was taken aback and couldn’t help but look at him more closely.

Gu Haiqing typically observed indifferently and never got involved in ordinary people’s disputes. But considering Wei Zhongxun, he decided to speak up, just to support Beisitian a little.

Yuan Tong was shocked to see Gu Haiqing stand up for Beisitian. This person, who had never even spoken to her before, took the side of an outsider!

Yuan Tong’s family was an old family in Jiang City, wealthy and diverse in commerce and military, though lacking in politics. So the Yuan family wanted to marry into the Zhan family to leverage their current influence, and in return, they could help the Zhan family gain an advantage in the next election.

Both families understood the benefits of the marriage, so even without a formal ceremony, it was essentially settled.

However, Zhan Hongjun didn’t think much of Yuan Tong. Even putting aside her average looks, her figure was nothing special. No curves to speak of; he wondered how the Yuan family raised her. These were superficial things; in the dark, it wouldn’t matter. But Yuan Tong had a narrow view, a petty mind, even before marriage, Zhan Hongjun found her annoying.

He thought if he married Yuan Tong, he’d probably regret it afterward...

So seeing Yuan Tong there, Zhan Hongjun wasn’t planning to come over anytime soon.

But when Yuan Tong saw Gu Haiqing helping Beisitian, she felt both aggrieved and stifled. Gu Haiqing, at least, was Zhan Hongjun’s friend; shouldn’t he support his buddy’s wife? How could he help an outsider!

Yuan Tong really wanted to say something, but eventually, she held back. After all, she and Zhan Hongjun had no promises to each other yet, and rushing over after him might make it seem like she was too eager.

Because Gu Haiqing had spoken, those intent on troubling Beisitian fell silent, though they looked at Beisitian with increased disapproval, mostly thinking Gu Haiqing spoke up because of her pretty appearance.

But don’t think Yuan Tong had given up. There was no way she’d swallow her pride, especially as her resentment built up. If she didn’t vent, she’d likely choke on her frustration.

As Beisitian saw Yuan Tong’s gaze, she knew Yuan Tong hadn’t given up. She couldn’t comprehend such thoughts and actions from these people. Was it worth it over such a trivial matter?

If truly asked to perform, she wouldn’t shy away from a talent show; she just didn’t want to bully the kids.

”Don’t mind them,” Gu Haiqing said with a glance at Beisitian, finding her bright and sparkling eyes surprisingly attractive.

A flicker of doubt crossed his mind. Eyes are said to be windows to the soul, and hers shone like the starry sky. Logically, her spirit should be much stronger than average, but Beisitian was not.

However, Gu Haiqing didn’t dwell on it. The world is vast with endless wonders; there’s much unseen and unheard of.

Beisitian smiled and nodded, and the two dropped the topic.

Le Jiayang looked at Beisitian from the side. This woman was rather peculiar; facing their group without feeling any pressure, or rather, without any nervousness.

Normally, when helped, one would at least say thank you, but Beisitian said nothing, giving the impression she didn’t need any help.

Luo Yirui, initially angry seeing someone trouble his mom, noticed her demeanor and realized she wasn’t bothered. After a moment’s thought, he stayed by the dining table, sampling everything but not over-indulging.

Honestly, the food wasn’t as good as what his mom and grandma made. Some dishes didn’t even compare to Grandma Gao’s.

Hao Rong and others watched with gritted teeth but dared not step forward. This kid, despite his young age, had too many strange tricks.

As the party neared its end, reaching a climax, the hall lights dimmed, and the whole venue turned dark.

”Alright, everyone, the most thrilling part of this talent show has arrived. Whoever the spotlight lands on next gets to perform with last year’s Prince!” the Host announced enthusiastically.

Beisitian was speechless hearing the ”Prince” title. Are people still dreaming of being princes and princesses?

From the sound of it, since last year’s winner was male, he was a Prince. Had it been a female, she’d have been a Princess, right?

Beisitian hadn’t participated, so naturally, she wouldn’t have that title, but she suspected she’d still have to go on stage...sure enough, not long after her thought, the spotlight landed on her.

When it hit her, Beisitian wasn’t surprised at all. Turning her head, she glanced at the nearby Yuan Tong. Although dim, it wasn’t completely dark.

The smug satisfaction on Yuan Tong’s face was unmistakably clear, not hidden in the least, as if afraid Beisitian wouldn’t know it was her handiwork.

Beisitian chuckled softly at the talent show idea. Singing might stump her, but as for the rest...

Zhan Hongjun was momentarily stunned when the spotlight hit Beisitian, knowing someone was behind it; however, it was just as well to see what Beisitian was made of.
