I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 940: Chapter 939: Call Your Dad

Wei Zhongxun understood how serious this was and immediately notified the people at the small courtyard to come pick them up. Wei Zhongyuan set out the moment he received the call.

Last time, Wei Zhongyuan and the Hawkeye team had tracked Qing Yan for more than half a month, yet the other side still managed to slip away. After he returned, he carried a gloomy air around him for several days.

Although they hadn’t captured those key Qing Yan cadres, they had destroyed several Blood Circles and blood-drawing sites. Qing Yan must have taken a heavy hit this time.

But that also meant the war between the two sides had officially kicked off!

By the early hours of that same day, Wei Zhongyuan had already rushed to Jiang City. He rested until the afternoon before finally meeting with Beisitian.

”Cheng Shuwei split the team in two. One group is continuing to pursue those Qing Yan cadres who escaped, and the other is tracking down Jiang Mingzhong’s whereabouts,” Wei Zhongyuan said.

In fact, everyone knew Hawkeye was tracking Jiang Mingzhong not just because of Qingyu. Beisitian kept feeling that Cheng Shuwei was holding some clues she didn’t know about.

”For the moment we’re on the same road as Hawkeye, that’s why they’re helping us so tirelessly. But we can’t rely on them completely. After all, our ultimate goals are different,” Beisitian said.

Their goal was to find Jiang Mingzhong. Now Desan was added to the list. Yes, Desan had left of his own accord—just like Jiang Mingzhong—but there was no way they’d just leave for no reason.

Their departure had to be for reasons beyond their control. They had already integrated into the big family that was Qingyu. Beisitian didn’t want to give up on anyone.

After a brief explanation to Beisitian, Wei Zhongyuan prepared to take Luo Yirui away. In a place this dangerous, every extra minute Luo Yirui stayed meant an extra measure of risk.

As he was leaving, Wei Zhongyuan said to Beisitian, ”Cheng Shuwei asked me to remind you of one thing. He said this time, a giant croc might surface. Be extra careful.”

Beisitian was slightly stunned. A giant croc?

She knew this was just a metaphor. It made her think of people like Chu Fenglei and Gu Haiqing. Could he be referring to that level of expert?

”Thank him for me,” Beisitian said.

Since he didn’t say it over the phone but chose to pass it on verbally, it showed how secret this matter was. The fact that Cheng Shuwei still took the trouble to warn her was really doing more than enough.

Wei Zhongyuan nodded, gave Beisitian a deep look, and said, ”Once I send Little Rui back, I’ll come right back. Be careful in everything.”

Beisitian gave a slight smile. ”Don’t worry.”

Wei Zhongyuan said nothing more. Carrying Luo Yirui’s luggage and holding his hand, he headed to the parking garage outside.

Luo Yirui kept looking back every few steps. If Wei Zhongyuan weren’t tugging him along, he probably wouldn’t have moved at all.

”Mom...” Luo Yirui looked back at Beisitian with tear-filled eyes, hoping she would change her mind.

Beisitian certainly wouldn’t. Seeing Luo Yirui like this made her feel awful too, but then she reminded herself that nothing had been settled yet and danger lurked everywhere. That faint reluctance in her heart dispersed at once.

Luo Yirui sat in the back seat. Wei Zhongyuan fastened his seat belt and said, ”If you get tired, tell me. I’ll pull over.”

Luo Yirui nodded, wiped away his tears, turned to look at Heavenly Blessing Hotel one last time, feeling quite disappointed, then lowered his head and stopped talking.

Wei Zhongyuan wasn’t a talkative person either, and the car immediately felt oppressively quiet.

Two hours later, the car had already left Jiang City. Wei Zhongyuan glanced at Luo Yirui in the rearview mirror and asked, ”Feeling sick?”

Luo Yirui shook his head and mumbled, ”No. Uncle Yuan, just focus on driving.” He thought for a moment, then added, ”Uncle Yuan, why won’t Mom believe I can help her?”

Wei Zhongyuan answered honestly, ”You’re too young. You don’t have the experience or the life lessons. The adult world is too complicated. You really can’t help.”

Luo Yirui’s lips trembled and his eyes filled with tears again. He hated Uncle Yuan the most right now!

Such blunt words hit him hard. Even though he was very unconvinced, growing up under Beisitian and Luo Xudong’s influence, Luo Yirui understood that he was indeed smart—but only compared to his peers. Beyond that circle, he was just a kid.

The little Luo Yirui sighed, his prematurely melancholy expression enough to make people laugh. He himself didn’t find it funny at all. When would he finally grow up?

He was just thinking this when the car suddenly braked hard. Even with the seat belt, Luo Yirui slammed into the seat in front. Before he could react, he heard Wei Zhongyuan say in a deep voice, ”Hold on tight!”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Luo Yirui felt his body fling to one side, his whole person pressed against the car door. Then the car suddenly accelerated, and inertia slammed his body back against the seat.

Once the speed picked up, the panicked Luo Yirui finally looked outside. He saw that there were two cars chasing them, one to the left rear and one to the right rear. What terrified him was that both cars were actually ramming straight into them like they didn’t care about their lives!

As he watched the car on the left rear slam toward them, Luo Yirui felt the car body shake violently. He grabbed the handle on the door, both scared and confused, with no idea what was happening.

Just then, a phone flew back from the front. He heard Wei Zhongyuan bark, ”Call your dad and tell him where we are!”

Luo Yirui reached out to catch the phone and dialed the number he had memorized by heart. After dialing, he realized there was no response at all on the other end. He had to hang up and dial again. After two or three tries, he still couldn’t get through.

Wei Zhongyuan’s face grew grim. Their signal was being jammed. The attackers had come prepared!

Right now he had no idea if these people were targeting him or Luo Yirui. If it was Luo Yirui, then it was probably because of Beisitian, which made the situation even worse.

Wei Zhongyuan stepped harder on the gas. For these people to block them so brazenly on a highway, it was clearly all part of a plan. He had to find a way to shake them off!

But no matter what he did, the other cars clung to him like century-old taffy, stuck tight to his bumper. His rear end was close to being smashed in. They were trying to force him to stop.

No way. If he stopped, he’d be alone with Luo Yirui and quickly surrounded. With the enemy’s background unknown, he was nowhere near arrogant enough to think he was invincible.

”Little Rui, listen carefully. If we’re forced to stop later, I’ll hold these people off. You run as fast as you can toward wherever there are more people! You know your mom and dad’s numbers. Find a phone booth and call them.” Wei Zhongyuan’s face was cold and stern as he said this calmly, trying to make Luo Yirui understand how serious it was without scaring him senseless.
