I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 946: Chapter 945: I Get Medicine

Despite his words, the old man still stood up, and the woman thought for a moment and said, ”I’ll go with you.”

The old man said nothing, and the woman followed behind. At this time, everyone had something on their minds, so no one paid attention to Luo Yirui.

Luo Yirui thought for a moment and also followed behind. The woman saw him but said nothing, having no mood to speak.

The old man and the woman headed toward the village committee, walking one after the other. Luo Yirui looked around as he walked, realizing the village was quite poor. It was obvious from the houses. No wonder there were no phones.

The only private clinic in the village was next to the committee. The clinic was small, just one room, with a curtain in the middle for examinations. Against the wall were two chairs for IV drips. At this time, two people were on drips, and two more were waiting to see the doctor.

The man seeing patients was in his forties, with greasy hair covered in snowflakes. His lab coat collar and cuffs were black and shiny. Luo Yirui, looking from the outside, was shocked at how a doctor could be so unhygienic?

This was too messy.

During these days traveling alone, Luo Yirui really had broadened his horizons.

The man’s plump face frowned as soon as he saw the old man, looking full of disgust and impatience, ”Here you are again! Aren’t you annoyed by coming here?”

The old man and the woman hadn’t spoken yet and were already met with such a statement from Doctor Sun. Embarrassed and pained, they could only humble themselves, thinking about their son who might not survive long without medicine.

”Doctor Sun, please have mercy, just a few doses of medicine first. We promise to pay you back when we have money!” The old man pleaded, bowing and kowtowing.

”When you have money? Can your family ever have money, with two bedridden and only one old man and one woman left? Old Zhao, it’s not that I don’t want to help, but I also have a family to feed. Look at this place, don’t I need money for everything?”

”Doctor Sun, I beg you, have mercy. My husband just stopped the medicine for a day, and he’s coughing blood again. He’s our family’s only breadwinner. Without mercy, we can’t survive.” The woman pleaded while crying.

Doctor Sun was indeed very annoyed. His face wrinkled, ”With your husband’s condition, the village’s conditions can’t possibly cure him. He needs a big hospital. A dose of medicine is pointless. I’ve said it many times, why can’t you understand?”

Everyone knew that Old Zhao’s son had tuberculosis, which could be cured with today’s medical advances, but it required a big hospital. Small village clinics couldn’t cure such diseases.

But treating such a disease costs a lot, not less than tens of thousands. Who in the village could afford even ten thousand?

So Old Zhao’s son was no different from having a terminal illness. At this point, it would be better to borrow money to prepare for the end.

As for the other bedridden person, it was Old Zhao’s wife, who fell ill from overwork. When their son was well, she could manage with herbal soups. But since he fell ill, she stopped, saving what they had for him, although it was never enough.

”At least with maintenance, they’re still alive.” The woman covered her face, crying bitterly. Without her husband, how could life go on?

Doctor Sun was annoyed by the woman’s crying and stood up to shoo them away, ”Go away, go away, I really can’t help you!”

The old man and the woman were pushed out by Doctor Sun. No matter how they pleaded, Doctor Sun showed no pity. Even if he wanted to, giving out medicine was pointless!

The old man and woman stood at the clinic entrance, seeing more people gathering, pointing fingers at them. Knowing it was useless to stay, they staggered back home.

Everyone avoided them as they walked, fearing catching a contagious disease from their household.

Luo Yirui watched from the side, not knowing who was right or wrong. Perhaps it wasn’t about right or wrong, just different perspectives. Like Doctor Sun, he wasn’t wrong about the medicine being meaningless.

Luo Yirui always thought right was right, and wrong was wrong. But now, this idea was crumbling on its own.

He quietly entered the small clinic, seeing a medicine cabinet with Chinese herbs. Anyone with a prescription could get medicine, but such clinics usually had unprofessional doctors who knew only injections and prescriptions.

This led to many misdiagnoses, with serious symptoms treated as common colds, inevitably causing problems.

Luo Yirui’s entrance went unnoticed. There were many village boys like him roaming around, their clothes dirty, unremarkable.

”Doctor, I need some medicine.” His crisp voice sounded in the clinic, surprising everyone.

Doctor Sun looked over, saw a young kid, and impatiently replied, ”Get lost quickly, don’t waste my time.”

Luo Yirui frowned slightly, slapping fifty yuan onto the table, ”I’m here for medicine!” He raised his voice.

Doctor Sun saw the money, looked at Luo Yirui, realizing he wasn’t a local, and approached, ”Where’s your prescription?”

He came over purely for the money.

Luo Yirui didn’t want to waste words with him and directly recited the needed herbs and quantities.

Doctor Sun was surprised to hear a kid fluently list so many herbs, though he couldn’t believe the kid genuinely understood them.

But with money on the table, Doctor Sun wouldn’t refuse it. He prepared many herbs, wrapping them in kraft paper, still leaving money to spare.

Luo Yirui took the change and left the clinic.

Doctor Sun watched the kid leave and asked a patient, ”Whose kid is that? Seems unfamiliar.”

Luo Yirui didn’t return to the old man’s house directly. Instead, he found a secluded spot to grind the herbs into powder using a special technique, wrapping them into small packages with the kraft paper before heading back.

He planned on leaving tomorrow, but before he did, he hoped to do something to repay the old man.

Back at the old man’s house, despite his worries, the old man still helped Luo Yirui find a ride to the large village tomorrow, hitching a ride and avoiding costs, though it was a favor owed.

Luo Yirui didn’t say much, deciding to make the talisman first.
