I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 712: Chapter 711: Breakthrough

Although the young man was already feeling weak all over, upon hearing Tian Zhi’s words, he still stepped forward, supporting Elder Jiang’s arms with the intention of carrying him to a more sheltered place.

Most of the people wandering by the riverside now were elderly folks with their grandchildren. They wanted to help when they saw this, but Tian Zhi politely declined. With the young man by his side, that was enough.

However, Tian Zhi didn’t actually know where to take Elder Jiang; the hotel where he and Beisitian were staying was too far away. They might not make it there in time, so he had to find a sheltered place to check on him first.

After crossing the street, Tian Zhi carried Jiang Mingzhong on his back out of the park, intending to hail a cab to the hospital. Yet, after some thought, he dismissed the idea.

Now that Jiang Mingzhong was intent on dying, even though the water had been expelled from him, he hadn’t woken up. Even if sent to the hospital, he might not be saved, especially since there were too many people around, making it hard for Beisitian to perform any rescue.

”Where do you live?” Tian Zhi asked the young man beside him.

The young man was taken aback and then a bit embarrassed, ”I don’t have a home...”

”Then where do you stay at night?”

The young man shrugged as Tian Zhi pressed on, saying, ”I stay under the bridge at night.”

Tian Zhi was startled, and it was only then that he noticed the young man’s clothes were quite tattered, not very clean, and one of his legs seemed to have a problem.

This was not the time to dwell on such matters. Remembering the underside of the bridge, Tian Zhi actually thought it might be a good spot as long as it was sheltered from the wind and people.

”Take me to your place,” Tian Zhi said.

The young man didn’t know what Tian Zhi was up to and asked, ”Aren’t we going to the hospital immediately?”

”The hospital can’t save him; my master can.” To make the young man cooperate, Tian Zhi explained briefly and urged him to hurry.

Reluctantly, the young man led Tian Zhi to his spot, not far from there. It was called a bridge hole, a passage for bicycles only.

The young man said that this place was usually not frequented by many people because it was relatively remote, so he had used it as a temporary shelter.

Upon arrival, Tian Zhi saw a sheltered spot at the bridge hole’s exit, with a layer of matting on the ground and a blackened quilt on top. This was the young man’s home.

Tian Zhi set Jiang Mingzhong down without delay and said, ”Help me with one more thing: call my master using this number. Let her know our address and say Elder Jiang needs saving, she’ll understand.”

The young man looked at the phone number, scratching his head. He could make calls, but calls cost money, and he had none.

Seeing the hesitation, Tian Zhi understood immediately and apologized: ”Here’s money for the call. Consider anything extra as a thank you.”

The gratitude for saving Elder Jiang could be repaid later once he woke up.

The young man saw that Tian Zhi had offered a ten Yuan note, hesitated, but accepted it, then turned and limped away.

As the young man left, Tian Zhi didn’t remain idle, turning instead to administer some emergency measures to Elder Jiang, but found his condition to be dire.

His face was turning increasingly blue, his heart rate was very low, and Tian Zhi found his pulse to be weak.

”This is bad; at this rate, he won’t hold on until my master arrives.” Tian Zhi frowned at Jiang Mingzhong.

He didn’t know what Jiang Mingzhong had gone through, but seeing him with a plastic bag containing some clothes, he could hazard a guess, though it was hard to believe.

Now the old man seemed desperate to die, and Tian Zhi could roughly surmise what had happened.

Seeing Jiang’s condition worsen, Tian Zhi was growing desperate. The young man was clearly physically impaired, and places where he could make the call were even farther than the park; just reaching there and dialing would take at least ten minutes. And then waiting for his master to arrive?

Even if his master hurried over at top speed, it would take fifteen minutes, a deadly twenty-five minutes for Jiang Mingzhong!

But in Jiang Mingzhong’s condition, it seemed only his master could save him!

Tian Zhi felt he couldn’t just wait; how could he extend Jiang’s life until Beisitian arrived?

”If Brother Xun were here, even if it hadn’t been used for years, talismans could still be made with the talisman medium.” Tian Zhi muttered to himself.

He couldn’t use the talisman medium; Beisitian had forbidden its use from the start, only allowing him to firmly understand the principles of traditional medicine and memorize the effects of various herbs for flexible application.

However, half a year ago, Beisitian began to teach him Spiritual Talisman, breaking down the process step by step, allowing him to perform Spiritual Talisman smoothly from beginning to end.

Tian Zhi had witnessed his master’s Spiritual Talisman process more than once but had never tried it himself.

Having practiced medicine for years, Tian Zhi felt helpless before Jiang Mingzhong, only able to use emergency measures to keep him alive.

But now these measures were no longer effective; Tian Zhi was frantic, constantly checking the time, and staring after the direction the young man left, while around him, there wasn’t a soul. The place felt abandoned, desolate.

The moon was large and bright overhead, and in the moonlight, Tian Zhi suddenly stood motionless.

”I can’t wait any longer; I might as well try.” Tian Zhi murmured to himself, looking at Jiang Mingzhong lying still on the ground.

Watching a life fade away before him without trying something might leave a knot in his heart. If the person died, it might be a knot he could never untie.

Tian Zhi took out yellow paper and a brush from his belongings. A few months ago, Beisitian had him start carrying these items, to get familiar with the feeling of being a Mystic Doctor.

Tian Zhi had used the brush in practice many times, sketching talismans in the air onto the yellow paper, but this would be his first real attempt!

Holding the yellow paper, Beisitian’s process of talisman making naturally came to mind, and unconsciously, he imitated his master’s way, holding the pen in one hand and the talisman in the other.

He inhaled deeply, as if sketching in the air onto the yellow paper; he had only a few sheets left, and if they were wasted, that would be it.

After fluidly sketching once, Tian Zhi gained a bit of confidence. He mentally reviewed the subsequent process of talisman formation and burning talisman, then opened his eyes.

In this isolated place, the remoteness proved beneficial; Tian Zhi could focus entirely on talisman making without fear of interruption or being seen.

Starting with a steady hand, Tian Zhi meticulously drew the talisman onto the yellow paper. Initially, it seemed effortless, but gradually, he slowed down and began sweating.

This was a sign of running out of strength!

Tian Zhi wouldn’t give up so easily, not daring to let his mind wander, and finally drew the entire talisman onto the yellow paper.

As he completed the last stroke, a sudden bluish glow emerged under the yellow paper.
