I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 705: Chapter 704: No Longer a Mystic Doctor

”Master, since the other party intends to live in seclusion, will they meet with us?” Tian Zhi asked.

The reason for catering to their interests is to successfully meet them.

Beisitian pondered for a moment, then said, ”Let’s try visiting them. We don’t have much time and can’t afford to inquire about everyone’s preferences. I think if the other party knows about this illness, unless there’s something hidden, they wouldn’t hide it from us. Even if there’s something concealed, catering to their interests won’t make them tell us.”

Tian Zhi felt this made sense, and they still had two more places to visit. Beisitian was certainly worried about the children at home and didn’t want to stay out too long, which prompted the straightforward decision.

Perhaps the reason for thinking this way was that Beisitian probably didn’t hold much hope, after all these years, disappointment had become a habit, and habits formed naturally.

”Then we’ll do as Master says, and visit first thing tomorrow morning.” Tian Zhi stood up, ”I’ll go buy some gifts, Master, you should rest a bit.”

After Tian Zhi left, Beisitian recalled that this visit was actually for Doctor Li, who was quite reputable in the area. As for this Doctor Jiang, no one knew of him, and he had only moved here less than three years ago.

Encountering a Mystic Doctor wasn’t surprising; after all, they were in the same field, and some were perceptive enough to notice similar professionals, but it was unexpected to meet one so adept.

Even if that cup of talismanic water wasn’t made through Spiritual Pointing, it was quite similar. It differed from Tian Zhi’s last-ditch effort, as it contained rich experiences in medicine preparation and insights into diseases, something Tian Zhi couldn’t compare to, even after creating a Spiritual Talisman.

Early the next morning, Beisitian and Tian Zhi arrived with the gifts they had purchased. These gifts weren’t the kind bought from a market; Tian Zhi went to the Tian Family branch in Wuma City and used the pen Beisitian received from Tian Heming to gather some precious herbs.

In fact, Tian Zhi had also been granted many privileges, being the first direct family member eligible to become a Mystic Doctor, receiving full support from the Tian Family. However, the costs of getting these medications required much persuasion, while the pen was more convenient.

Although they didn’t know Doctor Jiang’s address, they learned from Doctor Li that Doctor Jiang would be exercising at the newly built equipment nearby at this time every day, so they waited there.

When they arrived, Doctor Jiang was already there, but he wasn’t exercising as expected; instead, he was sitting on a stone bench, lost in thought.

As Beisitian and Tian Zhi approached, two other elderly people also came over.

”Old Jiang, is there trouble at home again?” one elder asked.

Doctor Jiang’s full name was Jiang Mingzhong; he heard the question and gave a bitter smile, which was an admission.

”Your daughter-in-law really is something!” another elder shook his head and said.

Jiang Mingzhong remained silent.

”Who doesn’t age? When she grows old, she’ll have to experience what you’ve endured!” The elder stood up for him.

The elder who first asked gave him a look, ”Alright, alright, Old Jiang, why not come stay at my place for a couple of days? I even lack a chess partner right now.”

Jiang Mingzhong shook his head and sighed, ”I won’t trouble you, I’ll just take a stroll.” As he said this, he stood up and noticed Beisitian and Tian Zhi standing not far away, and was taken aback.

”You are?” Jiang Mingzhong looked at them, surprised.

As Jiang Mingzhong stood up, Beisitian noticed his expression was desolate, leaving her momentarily lost.

Such an expression shouldn’t appear on such an adept Mystic Doctor, even if there were issues at home, they often relied on Mystic Doctors for support.

Seeing the elderly man’s expression, Beisitian felt an inexplicable sadness in her heart.

”We...” Beisitian paused, looking at the elderly man, ”We came to visit you.”

Jiang Mingzhong froze for a moment, his face showing a brief bewilderment, then his gaze steadied, and he nodded to his chess companions, walking over.

”Let’s talk as we walk.” Jiang Mingzhong glanced at the herbs in Tian Zhi’s hands and recognized them as precious at a glance.

Jiang Mingzhong’s eyes didn’t show any surprise or joy from this; rather, he appeared even more forlorn.

Given the number of people out early for exercise, Jiang Mingzhong led them towards the artificial water feature nearby, standing at its edge and watching the goldfish swim, saying, ”You’re Mystic Doctors, aren’t you.”

He used a declarative statement.

Beisitian nodded, ”Yes, we noticed something different about you that day, so we came to visit.”

Jiang Mingzhong didn’t speak for some time. Just when Beisitian thought he wouldn’t continue, he spoke, ”It was Old Li who gave you the talismanic water, wasn’t it?”

Beisitian neither confirmed nor denied it.

”That old guy doesn’t have much left as it is; he doesn’t appreciate it and gives it away freely.” Jiang Mingzhong showed a hint of helplessness, then said, ”I can’t help you. Haven’t you realized? I’m no longer a Mystic Doctor.”

Beisitian’s expression slightly changed. When he said he wasn’t a Mystic Doctor, he certainly didn’t mean retired.

Tian Zhi was confused; he had never heard of such a thing.

Jiang Mingzhong sighed, ”I never thought I’d meet peers after so many years, it’s rare indeed. My spirit has issues now, not only can I not make talismans, but I also frequently feel mentally weak. So, no matter what your intentions are, I can’t help you.”

Beisitian quickly said, ”We just wanted to ask you about a case. If you know it, please tell us.”

A case study?

With such precious herbs, just to ask about a case?

”Go ahead.” Jiang Mingzhong felt curious.

Beisitian described the situation, albeit with certain omissions, since it involved her child. It was disguised slightly, ”It’s a rare condition we encountered at the last conference, one we’re very curious about and wish to explore the answer.”

Jiang Mingzhong, though unable to make talismans, was a Mystic Doctor for life and couldn’t avoid hearing news of this sort. The previous conference presented such a case, and he was naturally aware.

”I can’t help you with this; I’ve never heard of such a case,” Jiang Mingzhong said.

Tian Zhi sighed on the side, once again disheartened.

Beisitian looked steadily at Jiang Mingzhong and then also sighed, ”In that case, we apologize for bothering you. There’s no reason to take these back; please accept them as a token of fate.”

Jiang Mingzhong did not accept the herbs, ”These are useless to me now, better to leave them with someone who can make use of them.”

With that, he turned and walked back.

Tian Zhi saw Beisitian staring absently at Jiang Mingzhong’s departing figure and said, ”Master, let’s go, onto the next place.”

Beisitian didn’t move, calmly saying, ”He lied.”
