Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 122: Chapter 90: Movements of Various Parties_4

”Thank you.” Ye Xuan skillfully picked up a pan-fried bun and placed it on a small dish.

Uncle Jiang jokingly said, ”Ye’er, why only let your Uncle Ye... uh, no, Brother Ye eat, and not Uncle Jiang?”

”Uncle Jiang, why don’t you have a steamed dumpling? Mom and I made these together.” Luo Ye cheerfully gave a steamed dumpling to Uncle Jiang, and then proceeded to distribute one to Grandpa, Dad, Mom, and her brother, treating everyone quite fairly.

Uncle Jiang pointed at the small dish in front of Ye Xuan: ”Ye’er, you can’t be partial, there’s still your Brother Ye.”

Luo Ye looked at Uncle Jiang speechlessly. Wasn’t he the one being jealous just now?

Ye Xuan had been observing Luo Ye, secretly astonished; based on the time, she should have gone to sleep around 2 AM, and to get up early in the morning to help make breakfast, still so energetic, truly made him reassess her. This was drastically different from the fragile girl Uncle Jiang had described; everything else could be faked, but this vitality couldn’t be.

After breakfast, Uncle Jiang and Ye Xuan said they had something to do and left. Luo Zhenggang called Luo Ye into the study: ”Ye’er, there’s something I need to discuss with you before deciding.”

”Dad, tell me.” Luo Ye couldn’t help feeling nervous.

”Uncle Jiang gave a suggestion yesterday about how to reject the Yang Family’s marriage proposal. I think it’s a good idea, but I wanted to get your opinion first.” Luo Zhenggang explained the strategy he had discussed with Uncle Jiang to Luo Ye in detail.

Luo Ye was silent for a moment and then nodded: ”The plan is good, but have you sought the opinion of the concerned party? Will he agree?”

”He agreed.” Luo Zhenggang sighed with relief: ”Quite unexpectedly.”

”Then I have no problem either.” Luo Ye also breathed a sigh of relief; considering the Yang Family’s influence, offending them could complicate many things. For now, overcoming one hurdle at a time seemed best.

Sometimes she really wanted to reveal everything, but then she realized that would be unrealistic. Once spoken, things would never feel the same. To preserve this hard-earned happiness, she must persist.

”I’ll call Mayor Yang now, invite him for dinner tonight.”

Luo Ye responded and left the study. She believed Mayor Yang would come, even if he had other engagements, unless it had nothing to do with the Wen Family.

...

”Mom, did you say dad called earlier to say Uncle Luo has invited us to dine earlier to discuss my and Ye’er’s matter?” Yang Xing looked at his mom Wang Liqing incredulously, hardly believing his ears.

Wang Liqing smiled, patting her son’s head: ”Yes, your dad just called and asked me to tell you not to go out, so you wouldn’t get sunburnt and annoy Luo Ye.”

”Okay, but I think my hair, it’s a bit too long, I’ll go for a haircut...” Yang Xing quickly jumped from the bed, opened his wardrobe and hesitated for a moment: ”Mom, let’s buy a new suit too, to show our regard, right?”

”Sure, Mom will go with you.” Wang Liqing glanced at her son: ”From now on, it seems you’ll only have Ye’er in your heart, no mom, right?”

Yang Xing hurriedly comforted his mom: ”No way, I’m doing this for dad.”

”You, always smooth-talking.” Wang Liqing proudly looked at her son, thinking he was truly a unique and handsome young man, even if he looked a bit older than his age.

Yang Xing was actually only 17 years old, but people often thought he was around 21-22. Fortunately, he was a boy; it would be tragic if he was a girl.

As the Yang family mother and son got ready to go out, Nie Cui found Liu Zhengxing’s office.

”What are you doing here?” Liu Zhengxing frowned at his wife.

”What am I doing here? Have you ever cared about Xingxing? I heard the Yang Family wants to form a marital alliance with the Luo Family, you must know about it, right?”

”So what if I know, am I supposed to say you all shouldn’t? What I can’t figure out is what made the Yang Family abandon such a good match with the Song Family to pick up some useless trash.”

”How can you speak like that? What do you mean by ’useless trash’? How dare you say that about Ye’er, and she even calls you uncle!” Nie Cui angrily sat down on the sofa: ”Xingxing has been down ever since he heard about it, I told you before, he likes Ye’er, and you agreed, is this how a father acts?”

”What would you have me do then? Compete with the Yang Family?” Liu Zhengxing looked serious: ”You should stay out of these matters, I know what I’m doing.”

”You know, you know, what do you know? My heart aches for our son, Xingxing and Yuanyuan are both your own sons, why don’t you care at all about Xingxing’s matters?” Nie Cui wiped her tears: ”The boy’s melancholic appearance is breaking my heart. He told me yesterday he wishes he had transferred to Ye’er’s school.”

”Let it be, this should make you understand one reality; a higher official rank crushes the lower, don’t even mention if Xingxing and Luo Ye never brought it up, even if they were engaged, we would have to give way to Yang Xing, understand?” Liu Zhengxing’s eyes flashed determination: ”Would I be where I am today if I didn’t know how to play my cards right?”

Nie Cui stood up: ”I knew coming here was useless, forget it, I’ll go find Xiao Luo.”

Liu Zhengxing helplessly said: ”What use is that? He’s still under my control. Don’t think I don’t care about Xingxing, but caring doesn’t mean blindly harming him.”

”You mean I am harming my son?” Nie Cui’s voice raised, hurt by the suggestion.

”Nie Cui, can you be reasonable? Would angering the Yang Family, causing them to bring me down, make you happy? Plus, whether Xingxing and Luo Ye end up together is still uncertain, do you think it’s worth it? Think calmly about what I said, you’ll understand my dilemma.”

Liu Zhengxing sighed deeply: ”I initially wanted to follow Xingxing’s wishes, make him happy, but who would have expected this unexpected twist? They might just not be meant to be; go back and soothe our son.”

Nie Cui slumped on the sofa, then stood up, grabbed her bag, and silently left the office. Fearing his wife might do something rash, Liu Zhengxing quickly instructed someone to follow her, relieved when Nie Cui really headed home.
