Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 119: Chapter 90: Movements of Various Parties

”Grandpa Song, let’s continue our research tomorrow. My grandpa is going to live here permanently, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities; it’s not just about today.” As she spoke, Ye’er stepped forward to pull her grandpa away, knowing full well Grandpa Song’s temperament; she had no choice but to be firm.

”You child, why are you so difficult to talk to, eh... eh...” After calling out twice, they quickened their pace, leaving Grandpa Song with a face full of dejection: ”Little girl, bullying this old man.”

”Uncle Song, no need to come down. If it’s not too much to ask, we can have Brother Song Meng join us to go down.” Seeing Song Fangzheng and Song Meng following, Ye’er hurriedly pushed Song Fangzheng back.

”Ye’er, how can this be okay.” Song Fangzheng looked apologetically towards Grandpa Luo: ”Uncle Luo, I’m so sorry, my dad is just like this, doesn’t listen to my advice at all. You’ve been troubled for so long, I really feel terrible.”

Grandpa Luo waved it off: ”It’s nothing, for an old man to have a hobby is better than being too stubborn. Xiao Song, you should head back. If you keep being so formal, I might not come over anymore.”

”Alright then, Uncle Luo, I won’t fuss over it with you. Let Song Meng see you and Ye’er off. I better go back and tidy up, this old master, sigh!” Song Fangzheng said goodbye to everyone and helplessly went back.

Just as he was entering, he saw Wang Qi yawning as she came out of the bedroom and asked with concern: ”Does your head still hurt? Has the fever gone down?”

Wang Qi nodded: ”My head doesn’t hurt anymore, I just took my temperature, it’s just above 37 degrees; I should be fine by tomorrow.” She then helped Song Fangzheng tidy up and looked over to Old Master Song, who was also busy: ”Dad, it’s getting late, you should go and rest.”

”That won’t do, what if I can’t find the things you put away tomorrow?” The old man insisted on finishing the clean-up before going to sleep; the couple exchanged helpless glances and sped up.

”Right, was it Ye’er who came to pick up Uncle Luo just now?” Wang Qi suddenly stopped her actions.

”Ye’er and Feng’er came together, there was also a friend of Mayor Luo...” Song Fangzheng whispered with a smile: ”It’s a good thing Ye’er came to pick him up, otherwise, someone else would have been held back by our father.”

”That child, she’s like a completely different person from before, really charming.” Wang Qi sighed: ”It’s a pity our Song Meng has a girlfriend, otherwise, I would have truly wished for them to become family.”

”Don’t daydream; even if our son didn’t have a girlfriend, that girl wouldn’t necessarily be interested. That child isn’t a fish in a small pond, just wait and see.”

”I know, even if Mengmeng is a match for Ye’er, that doesn’t mean it’s our turn, Old Song...” Wang Qi hesitated a bit: ”I heard some news from the courtyard that Mayor Yang personally went to propose to the Luo Family, do you think that’s credible?”

”Who did you hear that from?” Song Fangzheng frowned.

Wang Qi glanced at her husband: ”Who else can it be? The maids from each family always gather to talk, our Sister Li told me when she came back.”

Song Fangzheng pondered with furrowed brows: ”Something’s off about this. With Mayor Yang’s background and status, if he was really interested, he could just send someone to propose, why bother going himself?

Moreover, I think, if this news is true, there’s only one possibility—that Mayor Yang deliberately spread the rumor. Otherwise, even if their maid doesn’t want to work anymore, she wouldn’t dare to spread this news.”

Wang Qi looked shocked: ”Are you saying that the Yang Family is applying pressure because they’re worried the Luo Family won’t agree? What’s their motive? Everyone knows that the Song Family has been eager to form a marital alliance with the province, and from what I’ve seen, Mayor Yang doesn’t seem...”

”What are you two whispering about, fussing over? You spilled the soil everywhere!” Old Master Song’s irate voice interrupted Wang Qi.

”Dad, sorry, I got distracted.” Wang Qi quickly apologized and after helping Old Master Song put all the tools away in the storage room, she hastily bade Grandpa Song goodnight and pulled her husband back to their bedroom.

”Being all secretive, what are you up to?” Grandpa Song muttered to himself as he returned to his room.

Song Fangzheng looked helplessly at his wife: ”Wang Qi, you don’t seem like someone who’s sick with the flu. Thank goodness mom didn’t come, otherwise she’d definitely think you’re faking it.”

Wang Qi gave Song Fangzheng a slap on the arm: ”You’re the one faking, I’m just worried about you. Honestly, Ye’er is a benefactor to our family, we should stand with Mayor Luo’s ship, but now it seems, some things... are gradually veering off course.”

Song Fangzheng patted Wang Qi reassuringly: ”Through this time interacting with Mayor Luo, I firmly believe he’s not a foolish man. Some things, perhaps, have their unavoidable reasons. Think about it, in this environment, how many people can really do things according to their own wishes?”
