Bear School Astartes

Chapter 831: Chapter 814: Icarus

The high-quality blade cut through the wild dog’s tangled fur, skin, and muscle like a hot knife through butter, slicing neatly down to the gap between the vertebrae.

If Rong Buqiu were to withdraw at this moment, the lightning-infused blade would still cause a disruption of the electrical signals within the spinal nerves.

This wild dog would at least convulse on the ground for an hour, incontinent.

But this was a special technique of the Thunder Cat Sword, and Rong Buqiu did not intend to waste energy on these city wild dogs.

So the sword that struck down from above smoothly decapitated the wild dog.

Rong Buqiu landed lightly and silently, his legs rotating as his hand moved in a small arc after the slash, ultimately transforming the inertia of the swing, with the sword tip facing outward and resting against his arm.

As Rong Buqiu turned around, the second wild dog charging at him had its wide-open mouth perfectly aligned with the sword tip he had poised.

A swift and clean ’smack’ sound.

The Thunder Cat Sword’s tip pierced the wild dog’s throat and emerged through the foramen in its occipital bone, the sword tip exposed beyond the dog’s scalp.

During his time at Ker Morhan, Rong Buqiu diligently practiced the breathing techniques taught by Lann, learning swordsmanship from the battles with Ciri and guidance from the Demon Hunter.

Now, his use of the hand-and-a-half sword along with the two swords on his back truly exuded the essence of a Demon Hunter.

Rong Buqiu flicked the blade resting on his arm outward, and the limp corpse of the wild dog slipped off the Thunder Cat Sword.

The little cat was poised to face the third wild dog.

However, before Rong Buqiu could engage the third wild dog...

”Chirp chirp!”

A sharp avian call echoed from the sky above.

Rong Buqiu’s wide-eyed pupils tightened as he instinctively leaped backward.

In the next moment, a powerful pair of wings swooped down, stirring up a whirlwind that scattered the dust on the ground.

Sharp and mighty talons precisely gripped the wild dog’s skull.

The talons of the eagle, with claws sharp as hooks, were covered by a thick yellow skin, solid and strong.

One finger from the talons even pierced into the wild dog’s eye socket, seemingly puncturing deep enough to penetrate the brain.

After twitching briefly, the wild dog collapsed, its upper body briefly suspended under the powerful talons and wings of the bird before it fell to the ground alongside its lower body.

Everything happened swiftly; as Rong Buqiu leaped backward, the bird descended.

And by the time Rong Buqiu landed, the third wild dog was already spasming on the ground.

”Meow?!”

Rong Buqiu was startled; the bird in front of him, if it spread its wings, would likely be larger than his own size.

Moreover, the advantage of air combat was undeniable. In the moment before its head was pierced by the talons, the wild dog hadn’t even realized its assailant’s position.

The little cat’s movements became much more cautious compared to when facing the wild dogs, his Thunder Cat Sword continuously changing stance to respond to the eagle’s gaze.

The eagle... truly an unfamiliar opponent, meow.

Even though Rong Buqiu had hunted Acid Wing Dragons in the Valley of Miasma on the New Continent alongside his old Thief Adventurer Group companions.

These Acid Wing Dragons, with wingspans akin to two adult men, were as heavy as an armored human.

Yet Rong Buqiu inexplicably felt that this eagle, not as large as the Acid Wing Dragon, was even more dangerous!

It seemed to possess... intelligence?

Could intelligence be born in the small brains of birds?

Rong Buqiu pondered aimlessly.

But quickly, his thoughts were verified.

”Icarus?”

Lann’s surprised voice came from behind Rong Buqiu.

The bird tilted its head, appearing to have recognized an acquaintance behind Rong Buqiu.

It immediately spread its wings, chirping twice, and flapped towards Lann.

It finally landed on Lann’s shoulder guard.

”Hey! You’re too careless! There’s an eyeball caught on your claw!”

The Grandmaster of the Bear School’s armor, adorned with beautifully fierce bear fur, was stepped on by Icarus’s blood-stained talons without hesitation.

The originally fluffy, exquisite bear fur was tangled and matted with blood.

Hearing Lann’s complaint, Icarus lowered its head and plucked the wild dog’s eyeball from its claw, swallowing it with upturned head before tilting its head to look at Lann.

Now it’s alright.

This was the eagle’s message.

”Icarus!”

In the alley where the eagle flew, a slightly anxious voice called.

Her eagle handled a few wild dogs yet took too long to return, prompting unease in the eagle’s mistress.

”Chirp chirp!”

”Cassandra, Icarus is here!”

The eagle and the Demon Hunter simultaneously chirped and shouted.

The voice in the alley paused momentarily in silence.

Soon a nimble and powerfully graceful figure darted up from the winding alley onto the highest nearby rooftop.

That dexterity surpassed even the stoutest warrior, more akin to a fierce leopard.

From Lann’s perspective, a silhouette stood atop an Athenian-style three-story building’s roof, quickly confirming their location and running towards them.

Lann watched the silhouette leap down from the rooftop, landing firmly without using supporting force.

The house was built on a small rise, and the disparity between the roof and the road below spanned over fifteen meters.

This exceeded the height of a five-story building.

Yet the person descended as though jumping from less than a meter high platform, completely unscathed.

The figure sprinted forward, reaching close before Lann could react, directly charging ahead.

The perceptive Rong Buqiu obligingly sheathed his Thunder Cat Sword behind him, then stood on tiptoe and sidestepped along the wall to clear the way.

Icarus similarly flapped its wings slightly and left Lann’s shoulder.

The Demon Hunter opened his arms towards the approaching figure, and then...

”Bang!”

”Ugh!”

Cassandra eagerly and unrestrainedly jumped up, colliding directly.

Weighing over three hundred kilograms, Lann was sent crashing into the wall on the opposite side of the street by the Hawk Trainer, the impact echoing with a dull sound.

The long and powerful suntanned legs tightly clamped Lann’s waist, while Cassandra’s arms encircled the Demon Hunter’s neck. Her whole body hung onto him.

Her Broken Spear must have been reinforced again!

Lann thought so.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t still feel the force despite completing the implantation of muscle-enhancing organs!

Without allowing Lann to catch his breath from the cough induced by a moment of lost breath.

Cassandra brought her forehead to Lann’s forehead, their eyes staring intensely at close range.

Dominant, like a lioness hunting, aggressive, longing...

Even while expressing such tender emotions, Cassandra seemed poised to devour her counterpart.

”Tell me this isn’t a dream... ”

”Of course.” Lann’s hands encircled Cassandra’s back. ”This isn’t a dream, I’ve retur... ugh!”

To be honest, Lann tasted the metallic tang of his own blood on his tongue.
