Bear School Astartes

Chapter 807: Chapter 790: Sealed Formulas

In the expansive castle, there were only a few people, so there was no need for fancy living or dining.

Even Vesemir had to use his hands to skin the goat.

The Demon Hunters set up a table and hook rack specifically for slaughtering and segmenting in the originally solemn and respectful hall for convenience.

Lambert hung the goat on the hooks, as Vesemir approached while sharpening a small knife, and Geralt was cutting onions and carrots as side dishes.

Belengar was pointed to a place by Vesemir, instructed to fetch the good wine hidden by the Old Demon Hunter.

Vesemir had lived in this castle for many long years, no one understood it better than him.

The things he hid here, if he didn’t say, no one could find them.

Ciri was washing pots with Rong Buqiu, preparing to place them on the iron rack in the fireplace; this served as a stove.

”Won’t your fur fall into the pot?”

”Don’t worry, meow. I’ve had some simple training from Chef Cat!”

”You even have Chef Cats!?”

Meanwhile, Lann stood beside, assisting Vesemir.

Simultaneously, it was the right time to discuss serious matters.

”Have you heard the rumors about me from outside?”

Lann adjusted the upside-down goat for Vesemir to cut while speaking.

The Old Demon Hunter didn’t raise his eyes, seemingly entirely focused on handling the goat.

But his words still made logical sense.

”I’ve always disapproved of Demon Hunters abandoning their neutrality principle and getting involved in political turmoil.”

When Vesemir spoke, it was about the principles set at the birth of the Demon Hunters.

Back then, Demon Hunters only focused on hunting monsters, declaring themselves completely neutral forces.

”But I’m not a stubborn old man. Like after our last meeting when you introduced your combat methods, I immediately turned to find a crossbow to use. Indeed, it’s very practical.”

Vesemir skillfully cut to bleed the goat.

Goat blood dripped steadily into the drainage ditch on the ground.

”But these days make me increasingly confused.”

”I’ve never seen conflicts among all forces reach this level of intensity, as if even claiming neutrality becomes everyone’s enemy.”

”In the past, people just considered Demon Hunters as hired workers, done with the work and sent away. Who would ask a hired worker to have a stance?”

”But it’s different now,” Lann remarked calmly, holding the goat to stop it from shaking.

”The southern and northern conflict has fully erupted this time due to the war, both sides striving to strengthen themselves, seek allies, and identify enemies.”

”In this process, there is no longer room for neutrality. Or those claiming ’neutrality’ actually have chosen a stance behind the scenes.”

”But when I appeared on the battlefield last time, I actually didn’t care about distinguishing between south and north, it was just those Niflgaard people did something that annoyed me, so I decided to intervene.”

Vesemir nodded.

”I have no right to comment or judge you. Your influence and actions have long surpassed what’s expected from a normal Demon Hunter. I’ve never met someone like you, and I doubt those Kings have either.”

”But now, those Kings really want to ’learn’ under their subordinates once more.”

Lann spoke with intent, causing Vesemir to pause.

His old eyes finally moved upwards from the goat, meeting Lann’s gaze.

”You understand what I mean, Vesemir.”

”They...” The Old Demon Hunter’s lips quivered, eyes deep, ”They want to study Demon Hunters?”

”That’s the initial plan.” Lann nodded.

”First capture a few Demon Hunters for research, then the mutation knowledge, and next the human experiments.”

”This is one of my reasons for coming to Ker Morhan. Besides learning deeper knowledge, I hope you can hide the mutation formulas, lockdown firmly.”

Lambert cheerfully whistled loudly from the side.

”I said that damned mutation should’ve been stopped long ago!”

Vesemir kicked Lambert’s shin bone, making him inhale sharply from the pain.

Then returned to cutting the goat with the small knife.

”The alchemical and surgical equipment for mutations. I’ve already sealed them away long ago, in Ker Morhan’s basement. Demon Hunters are no longer adaptable for the era, even if you didn’t mention, I wasn’t planning to activate.”

”That I believe, but there’s one more thing.”

Lann continued speaking.

”During the winter, should there be other school Demon Hunters wintering at Ker Morhan?”

”Ker Morhan was the old headquarters of the Demon Hunter Order, the Wolf School welcomes every friendly Demon Hunter to join us through the winter. It’s an old tradition.”

Vesemir spoke naturally.

”Last winter, Geralt brought Ged from the Bear School. Also Kohen from the Griffin School.”

”Then please also notify them when contacting other schools. Demon Hunters lack a fixed place, this method is all I can think of.”

The conversation between Lann and Vesemir wasn’t concealed, everyone in the hall could hear, serving as a form of notification.

Geralt looked up at Lann with a serious expression while chopping carrots.

”Has the impact reached this extent?”

”Ambition brings boundless motivation to people. Those folks haven’t torn faces yet, ignoring everything to act, probably still because of my reputation from the last war. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be just ’Lord’s Demon Hunter rewards multiplied dozens of times’ here.”

Lann tilted his head and said.

”They might directly invite fanatic believers of the Eternal Fire who will come at their own expense, starting a ’Witch hunt movement’.”

”What about Eskel...”

Geralt said worriedly.

This time, Lambert reassured him in a nonchalant tone.

”Don’t worry, White Wolf. Eskel’s mixing is clearer than yours; city government and noble Lords, these usually stingy folks suddenly having so many commissions, do you think him foolish enough to eagerly find work?”

Geralt shook his head but felt somewhat relieved.

”After so many years, I hope your filthy mouth proves accurate this time.”

Lambert, who was just scolded, disrespectfully snorted, nodding at Geralt: ”Thanks for the compliment.”

With this conversation over, Lann relaxed a bit.

Ker Morhan should currently be the place where Demon Hunters interact the most, notifying here means a significant portion of Demon Hunters would be alert.

”Alright, troublesome matters turned over to you, I’m relieved.”

Lann’s mouth lifted into a smirk, while Vesemir looked thoroughly unhappy.

”Fine, all of you are just little punks who only know how to stir up trouble!”

”Can’t help it, since you’re the most experienced, have the biggest reputation and are most influential when speaking, right?”

The youngest Demon Hunter on site shrugged.

”I’m just good at fighting, yet relying solely on ’being able to fight’ can’t solve all problems in this world.”
