Bear School Astartes

After the Grand Commander’s reminder, Lann immediately sensed a feeling of discord.

In the Ancient Tree Forest, he basically saw many creatures the first time he went in—Herbivorous Dragon, Fierce Jackal Dragon, Great Fierce Jackal Dragon, Barbaric Jaws Dragon...

Even in the Great Ant Mound Wasteland, despite being crossed by a massive Ancient Dragon like the Molten Mountain Dragon, there are still various active animals.

But in this magnificent Land Coral Plateau... they both seem to have not seen any animals so far.

No monsters, not even harmless little creatures.

No sounds from living creatures, only the thunder in the sky rumbling one after another.

Monotonous and heavy.

According to Lann’s previous trace investigations, there are undoubtedly plenty of creatures in the Land Coral Plateau, with a rich and flourishing variety of species.

The current situation... couldn’t be called ’normal’ in any way.

”Let’s head to the floating ship of the Phase Three group, in that place...”

The Grand Commander frowned tightly, only saying half of the words ’to find a shelter’ before Lann suddenly grabbed him and led him to the edge of the plate-shaped coral reef.

The Grand Commander did not resist; he believed Lann’s senses were sharper than his.

He had already confirmed this repeatedly before.

Thus, Lann managed to pull the Grand Commander, running to the place where he had once hid and watched the Extinct Dragon and Deer Head Spirit fighting each other.

They climbed onto a stack of coral reef at the edge.

Just as they settled down on the coral reef, the sounds of ’clop clop’ hoofbeats started resonating from afar.

The sound of hooves stepping on the plate-shaped coral reef was gentle, indicating that the owner of these footsteps did not weigh much, and in this abnormal atmosphere, there was no tension in the mood.

Soon, the gentle sound of hooves grew closer, and the owner of the hoofbeats appeared in the view of the Grand Commander and Lann.

It was a beautiful and noble beast.

Mainly blue and white in color, its form resembled a horse, yet its neck, shoulders, and four hooves bore white manes that flew and fluttered like flames.

The mane on its neck extended to its chin, resembling a steadfast and solemn beard, with an azure horn on its head.

However, its face featured traits similar to a feline.

From the dark thunderclouds in the sky, bolts of lightning occasionally struck down, landing beside it.

Yet, the bright and hot electricity, capable of almost instantly melting steel, could not cause this beautiful beast any discomfort.

It continued its leisurely pace, walking across the scorched, lava-like ground.

As though it was too proud to regard the dust around it.

”[Phantom Beast]Kirin!”

The Grand Commander exclaimed in a low, delighted voice.

”You’re so lucky, kid! I’ve been wandering the Land Coral Plateau for years and only encountered it once or twice!”

”Kirin?”

Lann quietly repeated the name uttered by the Grand Commander.

He had heard this name in a combat meeting at the Star Base.

The supply squad of the Phase Four group had come to the new continent chasing this phantom beast’s [Ancient Dragon Crossing].

In the words of the supply squad’s leader, this was a tiny ancient dragon.

”But isn’t this too small? Is it four meters in length?”

Lann questioned the Grand Commander with curiosity.

”Is this really an ancient dragon?”

The Grand Commander was indeed worthy of being a renowned leader from the old continent. Despite looking like a reckless Super Saiyan, his knowledge and experience were extensive.

He pinched his chin with two fingers, pondering as he spoke.

”This Kirin seems quite young... I remember the standard size of a Kirin is over five meters in length, over three meters in shoulder height.”

”Maybe the Kirin chased by the Phase Four group came to the new continent to reproduce? Oh wow! This is a huge discovery!”

The hunter’s instincts stirred excitement in the Grand Commander.

If Lann hadn’t restrained him by the shoulders, he probably would have already stuck his head out to observe.

The ancient dragons Lann had seen so far counted to three, yet these three seemed not quite like regular ancient dragons.

The Molten Mountain Dragon is too large, and rather than having the ability to manipulate nature, it seems to be a part of the natural landscape carrying a living volcano.

Meanwhile, the Extinct Dragon doesn’t possess any power to control nature; it pours all its energy into its physical body for reckless melee combat.

As for the Kirin before them...

Lann glanced at the thick clouds above and the lightning striking directly onto its body, yet it seemed as nonchalant as if dust had settled on it.

This clearly indicated a power to control nature, albeit with an unusual body size.

Standing before the Demon Hunter, his originally silky and beautiful silver hair began to turn frizzy.

Additionally, his skin began to feel a faint prickling sensation.

The ion environment dramatically changed with the presence of the Kirin.

No wonder the originally bustling and noisy ecosystem fell deathly silent upon the Kirin’s appearance.

Just as Lann mentally marveled at finally witnessing the majesty of an ancient dragon controlling nature...

He then saw the ancient dragon with its high and proud bearing lower its head, and then...

Picked up a piece of terrestrial seaweed and started munching on it.

The crunchy sound of the terrestrial seaweed filled the Kirin’s mouth with ’crunch crunch’ noises.

And the once noble Kirin, as it ate the seaweed, its chewing reminded Lann of... a capybara.

The noble aura, at this moment, transformed into a calm, lazy stupor.

Its cheeks puffed in a leisurely rhythm, never stopping.

As the long terrestrial seaweed shortened in the Kirin’s mouth until it vanished, Lann felt like he had just watched an animal eating broadcast.

There was an inexplicable sense of joy and tranquility in his heart... pretty compelling?

”It’s herbivorous?”

The Demon Hunter found it hard to fathom that an ancient dragon with such destructive power as [Commanding Thunder] was munching on terrestrial seaweed like that.

”Omnivorous, Kirin can survive in most regions, but this one’s palate seems to have been swayed by the environment of the Land Coral Plateau.”

The Grand Commander explained Lann’s confusion while keeping his eyes fixed on this relatively young Kirin.

However, after speaking, a hint of perplexity appeared in his tone.

”But, indeed, the ancient dragon’s aura combined with the ion environment anomaly can deter many timid monsters. Yet as of now, even a single large monster’s roar hasn’t echoed from afar... This seems off, doesn’t it?”

Large monsters roar in battle or when demonstrating power. This noise is commonly heard in the new continent.

The terrifying lung capacity of large monsters allows their roars to overpower seasoned hunters, so such noise is naturally loud.

It’s quite normal for it to be heard kilometers away.

If the mere presence of the Kirin’s aura and ion anomaly could scare off large monsters kilometers away, that hardly seems enough.

But suddenly, the Kirin, previously leisurely munching on terrestrial seaweed with its mouth full...

Suddenly released the food from its mouth and became fierce again, looking in a certain direction.

Lann and the Grand Commander, already feeling uncomfortable due to the ion environment anomaly, nevertheless pushed out their heads to see what was happening upon noticing the Kirin’s sudden change.

But the ’abnormal atmosphere’ surged faster than the two hunters, sweeping through every inch of air!

Heavy, filled with a fighting spirit and brutal battle lust, the atmosphere crushed down like a waterfall from the sky!

In just an instant, Lann and the Grand Commander understood—

The reason all creatures in this entire region had disappeared!
