Bear School Astartes

Although the future is bright, the powerful and bizarre creatures in this world emerge endlessly, and just getting to know them on paper could easily take a normal person a lifetime.

Not to mention, Lann is not just ’getting to know’ them, but is hunting and defeating them, finding organs on their bodies worth referencing, and then integrating them into his surgical process with his knowledge.

This process will be long and tedious, possibly even accompanied by frustrating academic bottlenecks.

But Lann has already marked his presence in this world with the Elf Beacon.

He can take his time.

For now...

”Shouldn’t we keep a part of this gland?”

As Lann used the small knife in his hand to make markings on the muscle layer of the Barbaric Jaws Dragon, he suggested to the head of the research institute without turning his head.

”As the key to why it’s considered a second-class monster, this should hold significant research value, right?”

The head of the ecological research institute, with his feather pen briskly moving, detailed the process of dissecting and analyzing the Fierce Claw Barbarian Jaws Dragon in his notebook, as if it were being printed.

”Hmm, let’s do it that way.”

”Remove two glands... it should grow back in a few days, not a problem.”

”Then I’ll start.”

With a faint sound of bleeding, Lann sliced into the deep muscle of the Barbaric Jaws Dragon’s leg with the small knife, beginning to strip out the gland.

Although the Fierce Claw Barbarian Jaws Dragon isn’t very strong, the efficiency of this gland in transporting substances within the body is indeed outstanding.

It can even allow the Fierce Claw Barbarian Jaws Dragon to release combustible substances from its toes that can temporarily form a sea of fire.

The efficiency of this transportation is quite insightful.

Under Lann’s knife skills, the two glands were quickly and completely extracted.

Scholars then took over, storing them in liquid containers meant for preserving organs.

Up to this point, the core mutation point of this second-class Barbaric Jaws Dragon had been found.

After a few days of routine observation, it could be released back into the wild.

Having finished his main surgical task, Lann did not idle.

He joined the scholars in studying the two glands.

When he emerged from the scholars’ research lab three days later, a new entry had been added to Mentos’ data repository —

[Enhanced Organ Knowledge: Secretory Glands of the Fierce Claw Barbarian Jaws Dragon]

Lann hadn’t yet determined where this organ could be used. But even as a temporary knowledge reserve, it was definitely worthwhile.

This represented the first type of enhanced organ knowledge he obtained from analyzing monsters in this world.

And it wasn’t the only good news.

Just after Lann had taken a half-day break from experimental work, the Grand Commander sought him out.

”Let’s prepare to set off, Lann!”

The Grand Commander, often teased by Demon Hunters for looking like a Super Saiyan, stood full of energy, hands on hips, in front of Lann.

Though Lann was sitting on a small stone block in the dining area eating, the only one in the investigation team who might be able to look down at him was this man, twice the size of everyone else.

”Oh, have you rested enough?”

As Lann devoured a juicy piece of dragon steak dripping with oil, he asked curiously.

”It’s only been four days, hasn’t it?”

Originally, the plan was to take a week to let the Grand Commander, who was already over seventy, have a good rest.

But the old fellow himself, was patting his chest soundly. Just by the sound, one could tell how strong his chest muscles were.

”No problem at all, kid!”

”The real issue would be if that Deer-headed Spirit successfully enters the Ancient Tree Forest!”

The old man spoke righteously, but Lann just gave him a glance.

”Oh, forgive my assumption.”

”I thought you couldn’t wait to hunt the otherworldly creatures.”

The Grand Commander’s face visibly turned red.

The Demon Hunter finally gulped down the last of the cheese dragon steak on his wooden plate, drained the last of the beer in his large mug, and stood up.

”But you’re right too, it’s beneficial to strike early, and I actually feel like it’s about time to leave.”

”Oh? Can you feel when you’re going to go back?” The Grand Commander was a bit surprised, but quickly regained his seriousness, refocusing on hunting matters.

”Then there’s even less time to delay. We must resolve the trouble while the experts are still around.”

The frequency of otherworldly people appearing in this world wasn’t low, and it didn’t surprise anyone anymore.

They all knew that most of these otherworldly people would automatically disappear after some time.

So the Grand Commander was just surprised that Lann could actually feel when he was going to leave.

And since they knew Lann was about to leave, the pace to deal with the Deer-headed Spirit, an otherworldly creature, should be hastened.

At once, the Grand Commander chose three Acid Wing Dragons from the domestication site.

One for himself and two for Lann.

The Hunters didn’t delay; after preparing, they immediately set off, flying out from the Star Base.

Lann attached the saddles of the two Acid Wing Dragons to a rope, tying them together, and then hooked the launcher hook on his hand to the knot.

Thus, the two Acid Wing Dragons effectively combined efforts to carry him.

They successively flew over the Ancient Tree Forest’s canopy and passed by the Great Ant Mound Wasteland.

After a simple supply and greeting to the still-present investigation team convoy, they continued forward.

”The reckless charge of the Molten Mountain Dragon wasn’t without its merits either.”

The Grand Commander, with one hand hooked under the Acid Wing Dragon, relying on his astonishing arm strength, didn’t even equip the standard launcher for the investigation team, simply using his own rope toss to substitute for the launcher.

Lann couldn’t quite understand why one wouldn’t use such a handy tool, attributing it to ’elderly people’s reluctance to adopt new things.’

The Grand Commander pointed to a gap in the distant mountain range from under the Acid Wing Dragon.

”That’s the shortcut to the area I explored before. Since a large group of Acid Wing Dragons perches on the mountain peaks, even these Acid Wing Dragons dare not fly there. So before the Molten Mountain Dragon opened this path, I had to climb over myself.”

”Before, mainly the third phase team of researchers used a floating ship to traverse the mountains. But later they were attacked by a dragon species and have been trapped there ever since.”

”Trapped there ever since?” Lann asked quizzically, ”Just a dragon species, if you went over there, it shouldn’t be unmanageable, right? Is that dragon species special?”

The Grand Commander scratched his thick, hedgehog-like golden hair and said helplessly.

”The key is that chasing off the dragon species won’t help. The third phase team had completed investigating both the Ancient Tree Forest and the Great Ant Mound Wasteland before heading to unexplored areas.”

”These scholars came to the New World to satisfy their insatiable curiosity. Keeping them in areas already explored holds no value, and they wouldn’t agree to it themselves.”

”Even if the floating ship can take off again, they would only move towards deeper areas of the New World, encountering new dangers again, so it’s better to leave them in this region.”

”So far, they seem to be enjoying investigating and living in this area.”

At this point, Lann understood the Grand Commander’s helplessness.

With a group of scholars who value knowledge more than safety, losing track of them is normal.

The fact that hardware limitations keep them in a seemingly safe sector should be considered the most reassuring method.
