Bear School Astartes

Chapter 394: 394. Clustered Ancient Gods

The lever was pulled, and the door opened.

Henrik walked in from outside, didn’t turn his head to look for another path, didn’t struggle to find a hidden ladder, or a narrow and dangerous road.

He simply walked in safely and comfortably.

This novel treatment made the Old Hunter keep his eyes on Lann as he walked inside.

”I still can’t understand... how can you be so effortless?”

Lann adjusted the loosened armor buckle due to intense activity.

”I also don’t understand how Yan Nan Hunter trains for those swift dodges, but both of us are standing here alive now, aren’t we? Not in legends, not in stories, but in reality.”

”Hmm, it’s still different.” Henrik thought for a while and then chose to shake his head.

”You’ve started to grasp the hunter’s movement, though it’s relying on the residual [Acceleration Spell] traces on that leg bone. But if you keep using it for a while longer, I believe you can perform it on your own. Yet, your effortlessness...”

”Interested? I can teach you.” Lann said indifferently.

The Old Hunter waved his hand at this.

”Need I remind you of my age? Your technique also requires bodily adaptation, right? I’m old, my body can’t adapt to new techniques anymore.”

They didn’t continue this topic.

Once, outsiders coming to Yan’an with peculiar abilities wasn’t surprising.

It’s just that Lann’s ninja-derived mobility was exceptionally agile, which made Henrik feel curious.

After entering the door, there was a large stone terrace, and below it was a silent and profound lake.

On the terrace were several creatures, some familiar ’walnut heads,’ and a long creature like a centipede.

Each of its segments was like a human arm, and the upper segments had edges that gleamed with a hazy, starlike glow.

Henrik signaled Lann to ignore them, as their destination didn’t relate to the terrace.

Beside the iron gate was a small corridor that led directly into Byron Vis’s building interior.

This building wasn’t large, certainly not an academic institution.

Lann thought it might just be one of the buildings in the Byron Vis complex.

Inside were solid wood floors, books scattered messily, globe-like instruments, and candleholders on tables that hadn’t been tended for a long time.

It was clear Byron Vis had rich resources.

Surrounded by many bookshelves were numerous leather sofas; it seemed Byron Vis students once read and communicated in academic salons on them.

Yet today, the leather sofas were ragged and filthy, and books on the shelves were eroded by time.

Everything decayed, just like the city of Yan’an.

The building was connected vertically by spiral staircases.

Henrik and Lann were walking on the first floor, surprised as they exchanged glances.

Because they both simultaneously noticed human footsteps on the second floor!

Human steps, obviously different from deformed monsters.

Then, they lightened their steps.

Henrik gripped the spiral staircase rail, tilted his head to look upward.

Then, he frowned and whispered to Lann.

”It’s Yuri. A member of the Saint Choir. Why is he here?”

Lann released his Demon Hunter senses, finding the person upstairs walked steadily, apparently unaware someone had entered the building’s first-floor hall.

”Do you know him?”

”Not know, just aware. I heard he’s obsessed with Byron Vis’s research results. But tonight, one cannot fully trust even humans. The one who attacked Yusefka Clinic was also a Choir member. God knows what secrets they’ve uncovered tonight. Or what their minds have transformed into.”

Henrik’s worry was justified, as that woman from the Clinic he subdued was even Yusefka’s twin sister, whose relationship had always been good.

Yet this night, she was preparing to perform some plainly strange surgery on her sister, claiming it was to save everyone.

It’s hard to say this mindset differs from those Beast Hunters with growing hair.

”Then let’s subdue him first.”

Lann frowned, made a decision. The Saint Choir is one of the church’s upper echelons, but having killed even a church representative, why bother with hierarchy?

With the decision made, they quietly ascended the spiral staircase.

The Saint Choir’s Yuri noticed the sneaky intruders at the last moment, but they were too close already.

Lann could clearly see his pupils contract at the moment he turned.

Yuri’s first reaction was to raise his hands above his head, holding onto something.

The air around him started to ripple into waves.

However, before the centers of these ripples began to shine, Lann had already grabbed one of his wrists.

Then exerted force, pulling down, forcibly separating the hands joined above.

The unusual atmosphere in the air dissipated before it started.

Lann held Yuri’s wrist, making their distance even closer.

Lann confirmed this Saint Choir-born Byron Vis worshiper had normal pupils, rather than those clouded like Beast Hunter patients.

Yet, his actions were absolutely not normal.

The bone in his wrist ’crunched’ under Lann’s grip, yet Yuri seemed entirely unfazed.

Feeling no pain, nor the gap in strength between him and the Demon Hunter.

He forcefully twisted his wrist, even voluntarily breaking it!

”Crunch,” and Lann felt the limb in his hand turn limp.

Next, a peculiar white light emerged faintly from Yuri’s sleeve.

The brain’s [Spirit Vision] startled Lann, instinctively twisting, simultaneously pulling Henrik aside.

Then - ”Swish!”

A massive limb resembling squid tentacles shot out from Yuri’s Choir uniform sleeve!

The tentacles’ total volume even surpassed his entire body!

The powerful limbs instantly smashed everything directly in front of the sleeve.

Bookshelves were shattered, sofas torn apart... These things soon became a heap of debris under the tentacles’ curling and squeezing.

Making one inevitably wonder what creature these tentacles belonged to.

”Under the glory of the cosmos, turn to dust! Haha, ha... crack! Ah!”

In Yuri’s maniacal whispers, Lann expressionlessly grasped his forearm, then twisted and broke the entire arm from the armpit!

The maniacal whisper was interrupted by a scream.

The rampaging tentacles all retreated back into Yuri’s sleeve.

Using the same method, Lann broke that guy’s other hand.

Yet, he seemed only to react to the moment of breaking, remaining indifferent to his broken hand otherwise.

This couldn’t qualify as a ’normal person’... he too had gone mad.

Yuri’s madness chilled Lann slightly.

Of course, just a lunatic couldn’t even make him frown.

What chilled him was what the Choir member’s insanity represented.

If powers like [Time Stagnation], [Consciousness Control] were attributed to one Ancient God, then the [Beast Curse] to another, tonight alone, there were already two Ancient Gods using their powers in this city.

And now, the ’cosmic glory’ murmured by the Choir member, alongside his and Yusefka’s sister madness symptoms... could this be another Ancient God?

What’s happened to Yan’an city?

Are Ancient Gods clustering together here?!
