Bear School Astartes

Chapter 362: 362. Sudden

Yusefka suggested that Lann visit the Healing Church after the hunting night to inquire about matters of his interest.

But Lann was unlikely to follow this suggestion.

Because he knew that if he didn’t take the initiative to do something, the so-called ”after the hunting night” might never come.

After learning the basic concept of blood therapy from Yusefka, Lann said this.

”I will rest here for a while and then head to Church Town.”

”In such a hurry? On the hunting night?”

Yusefka asked with some concern, but she didn’t stop him.

”You have your decision... then feel free to rest.”

Lann sat down beside Viola and the two little girls, first sorting out the items in his Alchemy Pouch for easy access.

For the next journey, he would no longer be hindered by ordinary people, having a higher degree of freedom in action.

But at the same time, it also meant he would face more severe battle scenarios.

After Lann finished organizing the things in his Alchemy Pouch, he sat kneeling and entered a meditative state.

He had felt very tired since his last sleep, and after the last sleep process, he didn’t gain any sense of relaxation.

Now, he could only hope to gain temporary rest through meditation.

”Mentos, execute the plan.”

”Understood.”

After setting the tasks for the biological brain in his mind, Lann lowered his head, looking at the solid wood floor, smelling the scent of formalin and blood in the clinic, gradually closing his eyes.

As his consciousness became more sunken and calmer, his brain and spirit were both being relaxed and rested.

And the whiff of floral fragrance he had smelled once also arrived as expected at this moment.

It was the unknown white flower scent from the small courtyard in front of the workshop he had smelled during his last sleep.

But this time, Lann was not at a loss.

A sudden twitch occurred outside of his consciousness, on the left hand of his body.

The limb nerves stimulated by the brain’s electrical signals made the muscles tense up instantly.

Lann’s left hand lifted directly, the back of his hand knocking against the nearby wall.

This was the position he had deliberately chosen.

The sudden movement of the body outside consciousness was like a bungee rope, pulling Lann’s consciousness, which was about to sink, instantly up, breaking from meditation and regaining wakefulness.

Almost dragged by some unknown force to some place, Lann immediately started checking the operation records of Mentos upon regaining wakefulness.

”Report the situation.”

”Sir, our plan successfully prevented your consciousness from sinking. At three hours and seven minutes into meditation, I noticed the brain state transitioning from [Meditation] to [Deep Sleep], and as planned, started to disrupt the brain’s electrical signals, after which you returned.”

Lann’s eyes remained closed, but the corners of his mouth were already slightly curved.

Three hours of meditation is almost equivalent to six hours of light sleep, combined with the extraordinary vitality granted by [Second Heart], his energy level had now returned to its peak state.

”Well done, Mentos. That guy trying to drag me into a dream must be jumping up and down in frustration now.”

”Always at your service, sir.”

With the biologically intelligent brain’s elegant response, Lann’s consciousness finally fully melded with his body.

The brain’s electrical signals intentionally disrupted by the intelligent brain started to be coordinated and calmed by the [Gene Seed], restoring control over all senses and muscle tissues...

When Lann opened his eyes, the scene before him was no different from before he closed his eyes to rest.

The patients were in a constant state of panic, Viola and her family of three were resting together, and Yusefka, despite her exhaustion, continued to roam between the beds.

The constancy of the light indicated abnormal time flow, and the smell also...

”Hmm?!”

The vertical pupils in the Demon Hunter’s eyes contracted sharply.

With the enhanced olfactory function transformed by the Magic Potion, he caught a subtle foul stench—

The kind that comes from beastified patients, the stench of blood!

”Gwah ah ah!”

A Yan Nan person, who had been curled up on the hospital bed, trembling with fear from the hunting night, suddenly seemed to be in immense pain.

His body abruptly tensed and arched on the iron hospital bed, the motion so intense that it knocked over the infusion iron rack by the bed, causing it to clang loudly onto the hardwood floor.

At this moment, all the regular patients screamed suddenly, then scrambled as if avoiding a flood or beast, those who were wailing on the hospital bed one second, the next, screaming, scrambled away.

Viola, awakened and groggy, instinctively clutched her daughters closer to her chest, before looking around in confusion.

Only Yusefka, whether her brain was a beat slower or what,

actually reacted first by rushing to the bedside, trying to help the patient with the tensed body.

But Lann could see clearly, in just this moment of time difference, beneath that person’s skin, the bones had already started to deform violently!

The deformed bones even pushed against the skin, creating waves!

The limbs were lengthening, the position of the heels transforming into a reversed bone structure, the face protruding, dense black fur surged like parasitic worms from his pores...

The whole process took less than five seconds, as once described by old hunter Henrik as a ”clearly evolving process,” the beastification disease completed its progression from [Onset] to [Severe] right in front of everyone’s eyes!

This patient with a bone structure nearing quadrupedal movement, at the moment of turning, casually swiped, the original iron hospital bed under it slid far away as if it were a tin model.

The iron hospital bed was sturdily built, weighing no less than five hundred kilos at the base!

The beastified patient’s eyes were like a piece of solid blood crystal.

The desire to tear human bodies and spill blood filled its brain the moment it began to mutate.

The foremost target, of course, was Yusefka, who was nearest.

A huge claw capable of wrapping around a person’s head was reaching towards the doctor’s waist.

Given the sharpness and strength of the beastified patient’s claws, a person caught by them would have around ten kilos of flesh torn away with a single swipe.

Judging by Yusefka’s waist, the loss in her flesh might expose an entire section of her spinal vertebrae.

And just as Yusefka was about to be caught by that claw... ”Crack-Boom!”

A steel projectile, different from the local Yan’an mercury bullets, burst from the line at supersonic initial speed, accurately hitting the beastified patient’s big toe!

The beastified foot claws burst with a splash of thick blood, the thumb of that claw exploded!

Bone fragments and bloody hair mixed into a clump.

The big toe is the main source of gripping power, and the movement analysis of the beastified patient had long been transmitted to Lann by Mentos.

He was well aware of how these patients would use their mutated bodies.

The acute pain, coupled with a sudden drop in gripping power during the clawing motion,

caused the quadruped beastified patient to slip in the viscous blood, crashing down onto the hardwood floor!

The claw that was swinging towards the doctor, of course, struck nothing.
