Chapter 375: 375. Break the door

On the hospital bed, the anesthetized Viola opened her eyes wide.

She recognized the voice; it was Henrik’s.

A powerful, skilled Old Hunter!

She wanted to shout out immediately, letting this Old Hunter, like a father to her, know what was happening.

But the advanced techniques from the Healing Church left her only able to open her mouth without a sound escaping, no matter how hard she tried.

Yusefka, however, could speak, but her voice was so faint it was like a sigh carried by the wind, unlikely to reach outside the door.

So, Yusefka’s sister mirrored her actions from moments ago.

She quietly walked to the door, communicating with the person outside through the slightly broken glass window.

”Excuse me, are you a Hunter?”

She tried hard to make her voice sound more like her sister’s, gentle and calm. But it seemed she overdid it; her tone was slightly sweet to the point of being cloying.

However, the resemblance in voice between the twin sisters was enough to fool anyone who wasn’t familiar with them.

Viola’s heart was in her throat; Henrik wasn’t really familiar with Yusefka.

For experienced hunters, even when injured, they could perfectly handle it themselves. The high-quality blood of hunters kept them immune from common ailments.

So Henrik hadn’t really interacted much with Yusefka.

As expected.

”You must be Dr. Yusefka? Hello, thank you for sheltering my family.”

The old voice sincerely offered thanks first.

”Oh!” Yusefka’s sister smiled and glanced back into the room, where only a small number of normal people remained.

The rest had been turned into big-headed dolls through her ’surgery.’

”I’m honored to help your family, that’s wonderful.”

She said this with a straight face.

”But you are a Hunter, right? Considering the special nature of this job, I can’t let you inside.”

Henrik appeared very understanding outside the door.

”I understand, Hunters carry too much beast blood, that’s not good.”

”Oh, you are truly understanding. I suppose you’re about to go hunting? Then could you do me a favor? If you encounter any survivors, please direct them here. The Yusefka Clinic can provide them shelter and warmth.”

A warm voice from behind the door seemed eager to reach out and help the people outside.

Viola closed her eyes in despair.

Henrik was deceived... Because of his unfamiliarity with Yusefka, he was completely hoodwinked by the twin sister. Soon, he might even send more innocent survivors to the operating table here.

If only Gascogne were here.

In despair, Viola thought absentmindedly.

He knew Yusefka, and his hearing had become sharper due to his injured eyes... Mr. Lann, go find Gascogne back!

The Old Hunter outside the door, after hearing the ’doctor’s’ request from within, remained silent, only speaking after a moment.

This ’doctor’ merely assumed it was the typical indifference of Hunters, seeing nothing unusual.

”Doctor.” The Old Hunter spoke, ”Isn’t there a logical problem here?”

”What?”

Yusefka’s twin sister asked in return.

”You don’t allow Hunters in because you’re worried the beastly plague will endanger the patients in the clinic, which I can understand. But those survivors, coming from the blood-soaked streets, following the stench of blood filling the city...”

”Isn’t there a risk that they could also carry the beastly plague with them?”

”You’re making me doubt your professionalism, ’doctor’.”

At the last two words, Henrik pronounced them heavily.

The ’doctor’s’ body froze.

Because as the Old Hunter softly questioned, a Hunter’s Pistol barrel had already been inserted through the broken glass window aiming directly at her body.

Only now did she suddenly realize that the Old Hunter’s tone had been excessively calm and indifferent from the start.

A sharp old dog.

The ’doctor’ chuckled coldly, evaluating in her mind.

She wasn’t very afraid of the Hunter’s firearms.

Though Hunters’ blood was of higher quality than ordinary people’s, it was nowhere near as high as hers, and the mercury bullets mixed with blood were less lethal to her than ordinary ammunition.

Would any Hunter in Yan’an prepare standard ammunition on a hunting night?

The answer was obvious, needing no thought.

Even if facing standard ammunition, she had ways to handle it.

Jellyfish-like limbs slipped silently from the wide sleeves of her white robe, reaching toward the door.

Her plan was good; at this angle, the person outside shouldn’t see these movements.

And as long as the limbs she summoned reached their position...

A relaxed smile appeared on her face, almost identical to Yusefka’s.

But then— ”Bang!”

A thunderous roar erupted from the doorway!

That was the sound of gunpowder igniting inside a barrel, propelling the ammunition outward.

However, this sound didn’t belong to the Hunter’s Pistol resting on the broken glass window.

Massive shots of ammunition exploded from the lock area of the door!

The ammo shattered the material of the wooden door, launching splinters that blasted directly onto the jelly-like limbs almost touching the door panel!

These limbs, as if startled, abruptly retracted back into the small sleeves.

The ’doctor’ wasn’t directly hit but was blown back by the impact, crashing through the glass window of the clinic’s bookshelf.

This wasn’t the Hunter’s Pistol’s ammunition; it was the blast of a Hunter’s Trumpet Gun!

Following the Trumpet Gun’s blast, the door, with its lock blown apart, was kicked open.

The tall Hunter was clad in priestly attire, while the Old Hunter wore a dirt-yellow leather hunting outfit.

”Viola and the children are fine.”

The Old Hunter calmly discerned the information they were most concerned with at the first opportunity.

While Father Gascogne snapped open the mechanism of the Hunter’s Axe handle, transforming it into a ferocious Two-Handed Axe state with a ’click’ sound.

”Then let’s kill her first!”

The two Hunters walked past the rows of hospital beds.

They didn’t want the battle to affect the patients, anesthetized by unknown methods.

The ’doctor,’ who was blasted onto the bookshelf, quickly stood up.

She appeared frail, but surprisingly, her physical strength was good.

”This is a matter of the Healing Church, Hunters, don’t interfere!”

She drew a threaded cane from her waist, which extended into a long metal whip of twenty-one segments.

”Do you expect that name to intimidate anyone?”

The Old Hunter’s eyes were calm, unfazed by her words.

”You’re just a member of the Choir; you don’t represent the Healing Church. And tonight, even the Church is on the brink of collapse.”

The ’doctor’s’ face tightened, as if she was about to strike, raising the extended threaded cane.

This was the standard starting move for swinging a metal whip.

Gascogne paused his steps, already prepared to use the signature nimble dodge of the Yan Nan Hunter to avoid the lash.

However, Henrik simply grunted and raised his Hunter’s Firearm.

In the next moment, the ’doctor’ directly released her hold while raising her arms, the threaded cane falling from her grasp.

But she wasn’t surrendering; on the contrary, she clasped her hands above her head as if activating something.

The surrounding air began to condense, weak points of starlight-like light glimmering in the twisted air around her, gradually growing brighter, making the air increasingly heavy.

Anyone could tell that when this mysterious brightness reached its peak, quite a spectacle would occur.

But... ”Bang!”

The already prepared Hunter’s Firearm fired decisively; the ’doctor’s’ raised hands were hit, two fingers flying off with flesh and blood!

Bright light, air distortion... all reverted to normalcy.
