Chapter 368: 368. Great Sword!

The roar of the beast was shrill and violent, unimaginable that it came from a human body.

Gascogne’s body frame suddenly elongated during the mutation, black dense hair seemed to seep out from the pores.

Almost in an instant, the roar of the beast mixed with the meat paste burst out due to mutation, directly blasting Lann and Henrik away!

The blade of the meat saw originally sunk into Gascogne’s scapula was pulled out by him with a ’creak’ from the wound.

However, this act that should have caused greater damage now instead had a dry, rough resistance of the blade against something hard.

The beast transformation illness suddenly progressed to such a severe extent... Gascogne’s body was strengthened by the illness!

After being blasted and landing, Henrik immediately readied the meat saw, the serrated blade facing the enemy.

In terms of agility, Lann was much more advanced than the old hunter.

He didn’t lose his balance at all, using the impact to steady himself with a backflip, regaining his combat stance.

The dense hair lifted the wide-brimmed hat that originally covered Gascogne’s face.

The bandage covering his eyes now had strands of black hair poking through.

The face had already elongated to resemble a wolf.

Though he hadn’t yet reached the stage of being quadrupedal, it seemed that the hunters’ blood quality was higher than ordinary humans.

Thus, resembling a standing werewolf, Gascogne’s basic strength and physical robustness already far exceeded ordinary quadrupedal patients!

”Ah~ those sweet blood... They are singing to me!”

An incoherent voice emerged from Gascogne’s metamorphosing vocal cords.

Ecstatic and entranced.

The next moment... ”Boom!”

Werewolf-like Gascogne stomped the muddy ground, spraying dirt!

His massive body vanished briefly, reappearing right in front of Lann!

The stretched length of his clawed hand went straight for the Demon Hunter’s head and face.

Even with the force of an ordinary quadrupedal patient, this strike would leave five deep marks on a human skull.

In the face of Gascogne, Lann’s eyes slightly narrowed.

”Clang!”

Sparks flew!

Aron Dite instantly blocked the claws.

Gascogne’s hand was flung high, while Lann was directly pushed half a meter back, suspended!

The disparity in pure strength was evident, and Aron Dite, although wider and thicker than an East Japan Samurai Sword, was still at a disadvantage in such direct clashes.

Even though Lann had perfectly used [Leap of the Koi] to deflect his opponent, after the move, his hand gripping the hilt still felt tremors.

”Tch!”

Lann gritted his teeth in dissatisfaction.

If it weren’t for having to suppress Gascogne without harming him, he wouldn’t engage in inefficient brute force with someone he lacked a foundational advantage over.

”[Igni]!”

A fan-shaped wave of flames surged out, slightly halting the beast in its tracks out of its fear of fire.

But that’s all, since Gascogne himself was a hunter. Going against biological instincts of danger, evading blade flashes was everyday life for a hunter.

The fire was no exception.

And as Gascogne lunged into the flames, aiming to pounce on Lann, a mercury bullet shot from the side, straight towards his waist!

”Bang!” Gascogne recoiled uncontrollably to the side, like a whipped stray dog, losing balance in the muddy ground, clawing wildly until hitting a cluster of tombstones regaining his stance.

”Your weapon isn’t suitable! Retreat now!”

The old hunter shouted at Lann while charging at the risen Gascogne with the meat saw!

Lann’s Lady of the Lake’s Sword, in the eyes of anyone knowledgeable, would seem a fine blade.

But the old hunter of Yan’an believed—a fine blade doesn’t mean it’s practical.

Upon first seeing Lann’s weapon, he thought this wouldn’t be effective in Yan’an.

Its structure was too simple, lacking variation. Its blade too thin, lacking impact.

It could deal with humans, not-so-’peculiar’ beasts, but... not with the beasts of Yan’an.

That’s what Henrik believed.

The serrated blade of the meat saw slid and tore across Gascogne’s back, stripping a large piece of fur and muscle fibers, spraying a massive amount of blood.

Though the wounds appeared fierce and menacing, Henrik didn’t think they were useful.

The beast-transformed bones had significant hardness, his meat saw wasn’t suitable for combat against bones.

If used with the intent to kill, he could, with his vast experience, peel and dismantle beast-transformed patients through repeated maneuvers.

But he couldn’t kill Gascogne.

They’re not only friends; he regarded Viola as his daughter... He couldn’t let Viola and the children lose a husband and father.

First, retreat.

They needed to retreat swiftly, regroup, and capture this ’beast’ with appropriate equipment.

... Before Gascogne reached an irreversible stage!

Damn it! He should’ve equipped Lann with a hunter’s mechanical weapon sooner!

Even if he now held the most ladylike threaded cane, the two of them working together could suppress Gascogne!

Henrik seethed and regretted internally.

He used the hunters’ characteristic quick flash, maneuvering around Gascogne.

Numerous fatal opportunities stirred his hunter instincts, yet he forcefully restrained it, causing only few superficial damages.

But after tangling with this ’beast’ for several more seconds, not only did he not hear the young man’s retreating steps, those steps were getting closer to the battlefield.

”Quickly leave! Don’t be foolish! Wait...”

The young man’s footsteps drew closer on the dirt road, but Henrik’s anxious shout was cut short by his abrupt halt.

Because those footsteps suddenly became... wrong!

Like... suddenly gaining dozens of kilograms!

Whistling sound!

The intense sound of some massive object stirring the air enveloped him!

The movement behind the old hunter made his scalp tighten, instinctively ducking low without a second thought!

”Whoosh~ Bang!”

The decorative feathers on the earthy yellow triangular hat were tightly pressed below the brim.

The clash of steel with beast hunter bones produced a church bell-like toll!

It was a gigantic, heavy sword.

A gleaming bright edge, dark black blade core... Its length, width, thickness combined made it seem like a decorative ostentatious sword!

But this sword—

Once fully swung! Directly launched the already 2.5-meter tall Gascogne into the air!

Blood, shattered bones, and meat exploded forth.

Lann calmly shouldered [Torrent], a wisp of white mist from the high-power beating of [Second Heart] emerging from his mouth, walked past the crouching Henrik.

The massive weight made Lann’s steps increasingly oppressive.

”I can’t be bothered to wait, Henrik.”

”Now, I will break his arms and legs, inject him, then let him tend to his wife and kids.”

”It’s just that simple.”
