Chapter 358: 358. Mysterious and supernatural

”Mentos.”

Sensing that something was off with his consciousness, Lann immediately sought out the ’butler’ in his brain.

The biochemical intelligent brain and the main consciousness were connected, so Lann didn’t need to instruct it; Mentos had already handed over his report.

”According to my biological timing system, we have been in this night for nearly seven hours. The incense Mr. Gascogne sent back is being consumed normally.”

”But the sky and the lunar phase don’t look like seven hours have passed!” Lann pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a headache coming on. ”Why didn’t you report this?”

Mentos paused for a moment, seemingly conducting some sort of system self-check. Once the process was complete, it finally made a report.

”Sir, I surmise there’s some kind of [consciousness restriction]. Something on the consciousness level is preventing the detection of this [abnormal time passage] phenomenon. During my previous seven system checks, I automatically ignored the biological timing system.”

Lann slapped his forehead.

”Damn!”

His head was really hurting now.

In terms of intensity, it affected the biochemical intelligent brain; and in scope, it influenced the consciousness restriction of tens of thousands of Yan Nan people!

This completely led Lann to think of that entity from the Magic World whose physical form he’d severed, subsequently kicked ’out’—Da Gun.

On the other hand, the force preventing the night from passing, locking time into this night, reminded Lann of that otherworldly demon who demonstrated time pauses—Gant Odim.

.....All these divine and ghostly things play like this, huh?!

Time and consciousness in their hands are just like playdough!

If it weren’t for witnessing Gant Odim’s horrifying ’performance’ in the past, Lann would likely not immediately realize someone had meddled with Yan’an’s time.

Because this completely exceeds the imagination of human wisdom!

Initially, he thought crossing this heavenly sphere junction rift was just another adventure and journey; who knew it would turn into serious work?

Lann certainly didn’t want those who affected Yan’an to crawl out of the rift.

But right now, the immediate problem for the Demon Hunter was how he could fulfill his promise, to safeguard this housewife and two obedient young girls, in the extended Night of the Hunt.

”Mr. Lann, can we throw some incense blocks out onto the square? The incense should be able to cover the scent of beast blood, right?”

”Although the incense we bought this time is of poor quality and burns quickly, with five blocks we should be able to take care of both home and the square!”

Viola happily stood up, holding two pieces of beast-repelling incense in her hand.

She was glad to have thought of an idea that could help.

But Lann looked out the window with a complex expression, not turning back.

If this were truly a night with an end, then Viola’s suggestion would be acted upon immediately; but now it seemed like a meaningless waste of already precious incense.

”Are there any places around here that usually stockpile incense, Viola?”

’Hm?’

Viola made a puzzled sound.

”Incense burns faster in outdoor ventilated conditions, and its effect weakens too. Your method isn’t very feasible. I want to relocate you to a place with more stockpiled incense to endure this strenuous night.”

The speculation about ’time’ and ’consciousness’ should not be shared with women and children who can’t defend themselves.

Let those who hold swords do the tasks of those who hold swords.

Upon hearing about going out during the Night of the Hunt, the customs of the Yan Nan People made her instinctively resist. But when she thought of Gascogne and the two children before her, she forced herself to accept the cold reality and become strong.

”Church Town. All the beast-repelling incense comes from Church Town. There might even be workshops there. And all around the churches... but the road to Church Town is quite far, we need to consider the journey...”

Forcing herself to think along a path of instinctive resistance is not easy, nor is it comfortable.

But Viola still forced her thoughts, considering all aspects.

Lann, being a foreigner who had only been here for two nights, couldn’t help much in this matter.

Among the twins, the relatively lively and brave younger sister timidly raised her hand.

”Mom, Uncle Lann...” The little girl’s voice carried hesitation and also forced strength.

”The last time we went to Dr. Yusefka’s clinic, she told me there was quite a lot of incense there... because she often needs to care for patients, so whenever she has spare time, she buys large quantities of incense for backup, saying it’s very convenient.”

As she spoke, the little girl’s voice grew smaller and smaller.

She knew this was a moment concerning the safety of her family, and she wanted to help. But she was too young, hence couldn’t confirm if her information would be of help.

Beside her, her sister held her little hand.

Lann smiled reassuringly at the two little girls.

”Dr. Yusefka’s clinic? I understand. Oliveira, why don’t you take Victoria to write some notes? Just write that because of a lack of incense, you need to relocate. Write several notes and stick them on the walls and windows of the house.”

Receiving their task, the two little girls suddenly brightened up, and with their little shoes clacking, they ran into the house to start writing notes.

At least they felt they were helping the adults, that was comfort enough.

After the two children left, Lann began discussing with Viola.

”According to Victoria’s words, is the Yusefka Clinic close enough?”

”At least it’ll be safer than going to Church Town because the clinic is at the edge of Yan Nan Center, where population density gradually decreases.”

Lann felt somewhat relieved after getting Viola’s confirmation.

”Then go to Yusefka Clinic; Henrik also mentioned her to me. She sounds like a kind-hearted lady.”

”You need to be ready, take up what you consider important. When we leave, we need to open the door for Henrik or Gascogne to come back.”

Hunters don’t carry the house keys during the Night of the Hunt; after all, if they die...

”We need to let them know upon arrival that nothing happened to you, you just relocated.”

After personally killing that crazed chic hunter, Lann dared not overlook the mental issues of the Yan Nan Hunters.

The mental stress of the Night of the Hunt, the strange blood within their bodies, and the still unknown [Consciousness Influencer]...

Yan Nan Hunters received the Divine Blood from the Healing Church; in the eyes of ordinary people, they are very safe.

But to Lann, who mistrusted that blood and personally took down a crazed hunter—

Each and every one of them is potentially a beastification patient!

Minimize the stimulus as much as possible.

If he promised Gascogne he’d protect his family, but in the end, it’s a beastified priest in a clerical robe returning...

Lann didn’t like such a classical tragedy one bit.

On the dining table, there was leftover food from the lavish meal Viola had prepared halfway.

Henrik mentioned visiting for dinner last night, so Viola happily spent half a day preparing.

And after another half day, no one would come to this table for the feast anymore.
