Chapter 371: 371. Retrospection

”’A few times’? You mean, this night not only has been stagnated, but also...”

”Ah, yes, yes. Just as you thought.”

Facing the demon hunter’s frowning inquiry, the old man lying on the ground calmly replied.

”From a day ago to tonight... it repeats again and again.”

”We don’t know what the power that toys with time wants, but we can be sure that if it doesn’t get the result It wants, this night will have no end.”

”How many people have realized this?”

”Not many... hehehe, not many. Most of them are hunters, but their numbers are decreasing each time, which is within common sense... Hunters are already exhausted from hunting, and now it’s an endless night of hunting, hehehe...”

The red-robed old man was vague about who exactly was aware.

But Lann could be sure that the hunter wearing the feathered cloak was likely one of them.

Thinking of this, the demon hunter sighed.

Unfortunately, I don’t know where she is now, otherwise, through conversation, he might directly gain insights from many past regressions.

”...Thank you, at least I’ve understood a little.”

Lann stood up from a half-squatting position and thanked the red-robed old man.

”If I meet others, I’ll notify them to come for refuge. But time will always rewind, your help to them...”

Your help to them is meaningless.

Lann wanted to say this.

But the old man didn’t mind at all.

”Even if it can only give them a moment of peace... I have to do something, right? I’ve always wanted to help others... hehehe.”

No matter if it’s meaningful to those unaware, this is something the old man decided to do himself.

It has meaning for her.

Offering help to others often doesn’t require a reason.

Lann nodded calmly and walked out of the chapel.

Outside the chapel was a circular square with multiple intersections. It was through here that Henrik led Lann to the Oton Chapel.

The patrolling clergy during the last night of hunting left a deep impression on Lann.

They were generally tall, but their entire skin was as pale as dust.

Clearly not ordinary humans, Lann simply regarded them as semi-human intelligent species cooperating with humans in this world.

Just like the dwarf bankers who set up banks in Vizima.

”Sir, could you point me towards the cathedral?”

Lann politely asked a clergy member of another species who was holding an oil lamp and a cane.

But instead of providing guidance to believers and a good impression to outsiders of the sect, the clergy’s lead-white face was blank and hollow.

He raised the oil lamp high in his hand, and then the flame in the glass lantern seemed to be drawn by some power, splattering out.

And at the moment the other party acted, Lann’s Quen Rune directly blocked the first wave of heat.

Then the Igni Rune reversed control over these flames.

The outstretched handprint made the flames surge back like a tide, wrapping the clergy instead.

His woolen coat immediately became fuel, burning his flesh.

Lann frowned, watching the clergy struggle frantically, then gradually weaken in the flames.

But unlike typical creatures dying from burns... even though he exhibited a considerable degree of pain, he never made a sound from start to finish.

Screams, curses, damnations... not even a groan!

Silence in the agony of being burned alive is against a creature’s nature.

”Damn it!”

The Chaos Magic Power within quickly recovered, but Lann’s expression was still grim.

He thought the beastly patients outside Church Town were strange enough, who knew that even those in Church Town, even in death, could be this chilling?

Looking up at the stairs leading upward and the many clergy members wandering on them, Lann smirked.

Better find another path for now, leave the tough ones for later.

The demon hunter found another path in the multifaceted square.

The scenery in Church Town was nice. Compared to other places in Yan’an, there were more open spaces used for decorative greenery.

Except on this cold, bloody night, the waving green branches appeared withered and eerie.

The alternative path was much easier, with only a few normal patients who hadn’t developed into severe beastly conditions.

Church Town was also home to some residents, and even staying indoors, they couldn’t suppress their ailments after the incense ran out.

After Lann cleared these frail enemies, he arrived at a platform with some kind of altar.

A blonde hunter wearing hunting attire and a Healing Church holy cloth drapery on his back was kneeling before the altar, praying softly.

He appeared very devout.

Lann placed his hand on the scabbard at his waist; Aron Dite was handier for dealing with single, similar-sized enemies.

The demon hunter cautiously approached him and greeted.

”Hello?”

He couldn’t help but be cautious; the situation in Church Town was different from outside Yan’an where the clergy members would kill at sight without a beastly stench.

The scent here couldn’t distinguish friend from foe.

But he couldn’t give up the opportunity to ask for directions, given the tricky road conditions in Yan’an.

Fortunately, the blonde hunter made Lann feel he wasn’t so unlucky after all.

”Hello to you too, sir.”

The blonde man’s tone carried a hint of enthusiasm.

”Oh, you’re a new hunter, aren’t you? Haha, don’t be shy, I know, you look just like I did when I started.”

When he turned around, Lann saw his full appearance.

A typical blond-haired, blue-eyed Caucasian.

His hunting attire should belong to the Healing Church, but compared to the generally lightweight hunter attire, his equipment seemed more substantial.

Though to Lann, it still could only be described as ultra-lightweight cloth armor.

The reasonable and enthusiastic demeanor of the blonde man made Lann move closer, which pleased him even more.

”It’s rare to hear a voice of reason on this night.”

”Just call me Alfred, sir. I’m a follower of Master Logarius, a hunter of the Blood Race of Filth, and you?”

The blonde Alfred extended his hand, and Lann stepped forward to shake it.

Even through leather gloves, Lann could feel the obvious calluses, indicating this person wielded heavy weapons.

”Lann, just call me Lann.” Retracting his hand, the demon hunter felt some curiosity.

Blood Race of Filth? Does that refer to those who use other blood for healing?

Lann still remembered the concepts Dr. Yusefka taught him.

In the context of the Healing Church, ”filthy” and ”profane” referred to unorthodox behaviors in blood healing.

But clearly, this topic was tied to the man’s faith, and Lann didn’t want to speculate lightly.

If misstated, it would offend a believer.

Lann’s response made Alfred even warmer, as he grabbed Lann’s hand again and gave it a vigorous shake before releasing it.

”Ah, hello, Lann. Our hunting targets may differ, but we are both hunters. Hunters should exchange experiences to hone techniques and better approach hunting goals, don’t you think?”
