Reborn as an Extra

Chapter 777: In the wake of Disaster... Part-3.

Somewhere in an underground refugee camp.

A small group of people huddled up together to find comfort and safety in each other’s presence.

Although all of them knew that none of them would stand a chance if a demon or monster were to get to this place, and that their sense of safety in being together was fake, none of them wanted to point it out.

Even that fake sense of safety was important in that hopeless situation for them all.

They all sat together in a small hall in the mana-enchanted bunker and stared at the small radio that was placed in the middle of the hall.

The radio was a magical artifact that could convey information even when the space was locked with space anchors and various other sealing artifacts.

It could even bypass the interference of most weaker miasma-inflicted areas, and thus it was a very reliable source of information in areas where it was impossible to get electricity or any stable energy supply.

Usually, all these people would have had nothing to do with an artifact like the magical radio, as it was old tech, but today, things were just too desperate, and people needed information the most!

The magical radio was not particularly a powerful artifact, but it served its purpose perfectly!

...

Once the magic radio was turned on, the middle-aged man holding it pressed a few buttons and tuned it to a certain frequency.

After the frequency was set, the magic radio immediately started to relay news to the people stuck in the small bunker.

”Fellow Citizens, I am... sigh... there’s no need for an introduction today.”

”Today... the entire world has faced a massive catastrophe... For almost a thousand years, we hadn’t had to face something like this even once.”

”But today, after a thousand years... the demon race has once again proved it to us just how vicious, violent, and inhumanely vile they can be to each and every being of the universe!...”

”I feel shattered from inside when telling you all about this, but I must present the truth in front of you all... so I have no choice but to keep my voice steady and firm...”

”My friends... Today is a dark day; the demon race launched a sudden attack on a global scale at 13:00 international time, and almost all nations were hit hard, as they were all attacked when they were off-guard...”

”There were no declarations of war; there were no signs of violence and war initiation from our world alliance’s side, and yet...”

”The demon race unilaterally launched an attack on the entire world alliance without any prior warning!”

The speaker on the radio went silent for a while before continuing in a heavy tone.

”Due to this sudden attack by the demon race, the world alliance has suffered a major catastrophe today, and nearly a million people from various different nationalities across the globe have been killed off...”

As the radio announcer spoke those words, all of the people in the bunker felt their breaths stop for a moment and saw the look of shock and disbelief on each other’s faces.

The planet was big and there were billions of creatures living on this planet, but even for such a big and highly populated planet, the loss of a million people overnight was no small matter.

It was a catastrophe of unimaginable scale.

Just because of the selfishness of the demon armies, just because of the selfishness of the Demon King, a million people were wiped off the surface of the planet in just a few hours!

The civilian casualties were high, but the casualty ratio among awakeners was even more insane!

Usually, the world alliance would have never suffered such insane damage when facing the demon armies, but this time things were different.

The Demon King was personally leading the demon armies this time, and with his ability to see the strings of destinies of the entire world, he could easily figure out the military secrets of all the nations on this planet.

He could easily know all the weak points and where the security was lightest.

Moreover, he could boost the power of his troops through temporarily altering their strings of destinies, and he could even exploit the fear of miasma in everyone’s heart for his own advantages.

A demon army without the Demon King was of no concern to the world alliance, as it would be easily crushed by the SS-rankers and the soldiers of the world alliance.

But once the Demon King entered the equation, the scale of victory would start to tip towards the demon race.

Thankfully, Rio managed to defeat Raika and bring back everyone with him in just a few hours and put a stop to the battle between the Demon King and Ashtel Rex.

If Rio had taken a few more hours, things would have been much much worse than they already are.

The Demon King would not only have killed Ashtel; he would have gone on to target other powerful SS-rankers too.

People like Ryul, Riku, etc., who were leaders of their own nations, would have been either killed or crippled.

Although many people might blame Rio for all these events and might say that everything happened only because of him in the first place, if they found out about the Demon King’s thoughts, they would never know what Rio had prevented from happening.

”Friends... regardless of where you are listening to me from, do not be afraid. Our soldiers and our powerful awakeners are all protecting you from all disaster.”

”The world alliance has already released an official statement and has declared that a strict action would be taken against the demon race for what they have done to our people...”

”Everyone, I sincerely ask you to not lose your hope. No matter what difficulties the world might face, there will be people like Sir Ashtel to protect the safety of the world!”

”Sir Ashtel Rex has successfully forced the Demon King and his evil villains to retreat with his overwhelming strength!”

”So please do not be afraid, please do not panic; the vile demon race will receive retribution for what it has done. We just have to believe in our guardians!”
