Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 874: Magic Seal

”This is the skeleton of a magic seal.” Charlotte drew five circles with a different kind of thickness. The outermost layer was the second thickest, but the thickest line was located in the middle.

”The reason for this arrangement derives from the four things you need to put into the magic circles.

”First of all, what do you think is the first thing you need to put here?”

Nathan answered without hesitation. ”Element.”

Charlotte shook her head. ”Element is the last thing you put into the magic circle.”

”The flow of energy then.”

”Indeed.” Charlotte nodded this time. ”To be more accurate, itʼs a conducting line. The reason for it is that this line is used to circulate the ena to the entire magic circle.”

Nathan couldnʼt help but imagine a motherboard from Earth. He asked, ”In that case, does that mean different patterns have different properties? Or other components can change the way it flows? Or maybe those five circles are the ones doing it?”

Charlotte looked surprised, not expecting Nathan to be able to see through it easily. She replied with a smile, ”Indeed. These circles are the ones doing it.

”It is also the reason for them to be arranged like this. Letʼs call them A to E, starting from the inner side.

”Circle A has a medium thickness, which is perfect to protect the core. It is not as thick for the ena to flow, but also not too weak for the core to be affected.

”Circle B is the thinnest. Thatʼs for a reason. This is where we put the activation sequence. When the conductor lines are coming from Circle A to Circle B and even pass Circle B, they have to be put in place to stabilize the flow but, at the same time, not disrupt the flow.

”Circle C is the thickest because this is the wall of the magic circle. It functions as the supporting pillar that keeps the entire magic circle from crumbling. If we donʼt have this circle, you can destroy a magic circle just with a single sweep of your ena.

”Circle D is the second in thickness. Thatʼs because this is where we supply our ena. While Circle E is the skeleton of the magic circle so that everything wonʼt escape.”

Nathan looked down, falling into deep thought. ”In other words, can we divide this into two sections? And before that, does this mean we have to provide ena to both the inner and outer circles, with Circle C being the divider?”

”Thatʼs correct.”

”In that case, the energy flowing in the inner side is for activating the sequence that will allow us to activate that magic. Meanwhile, that energy wonʼt be enough to fully utilize the power of that circle. Hence, the outer side is used like a storage for the magic circle?”

”Yes.”

Vivian was quite surprised by how easily Nathan understood the basics of the magic circle. It reminded her of how it all started. This was also the reason she asked him to become her assistant on top of being her student.

”I got the general idea about the magic seal itself. How about the pattern?”

”As for the pattern, actually, there are so many of them, but thatʼs just one part of it. I will show you all the patterns. This conducting lineʼs purpose is to create the activation sequence, the magic effect, and other things. Itʼs basically the foundation of the magic circle.

”The second one is the resistance line. This is to interrupt or slow down the activation sequence in a certain part. By combining this into several parts, you can make a certain flow slower than the others or completely cut off the flow of ena if you deem it to be unnecessary.

”The third one is the core line. This one is the most useless, but at the same time, the most useful. Most of the time, the people are simply creating a symbol that will describe them. You can think of it as your own brand of magic circle.

”If you take a look at peopleʼs magic circles, you will see they have a symbol in the center of their magic circle, right? Thatʼs a brand that will describe them.

”It can be whatever because this core is simply the entrance for the ena you put inside the circle. And from this brand flows the ena by using the single line.

”Last but not least, the elemental line. This line is the most complex. Since you have used your soul contract to activate an element, I think you can feel how your ena flows differently from when you use your bullets, correct?”

Nathan nodded, recalling the time he utilized his time and ice elements. ”Indeed.”

”You simply just have to follow that flow and transmit it into this magic circle. The higher the level of the ability, the more complex the magic circle is. As a result, itʼs also quite hard to form a magic circle. People sometimes prefer to use incantation to shape the ena instead.

”Basically, if you are a good thinker and can imagine the perfect form of your magic circle in your head, itʼs better to use a magic circle. On the other hand, if you are good at talking, itʼs better to use the incantation. Of course, the ʼtalkingʼ I mention here is not public speech or something. You have to adjust your voice, tone, and other things. Please listen to this.”

Charlotte took a deep breath before saying in a high-pitched tone. ”Come forth, Enteliaʼs Wind, the Great Blessing of the World!”

Now that they were talking about the chant, Nathan could sense the sudden flow of ena.

Charlotte then continued to the second example. This time, she was using a low-pitched tone, and the chant was slightly slower. ”Come forth, Enteliaʼs Wind, the Great Blessing of the World!”

”!!!” Nathan raised his eyebrows. ”Thatʼs…”

”Did you notice the difference?”

”Yes.” Nathan nodded. Because of its high pitch, the flow of the ena was much more rigorous and violent. On the other hand, the second chant had a slower and calmer ena flow.

By differentiating the way it chanted, people could adjust their magic.

After reading so many stories, he thought chanting was just too embarrassing. But it turned out there was much more depth to it. Still, it didnʼt mean it wasnʼt cringing and embarrassing… at least for him.
