Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 868: Nathanʼs Luck

”My luck?” Nathan furrowed his eyebrows. He knew it was awful, but he wondered what Mae wanted to say regarding this awful luck. ”Is there something wrong with my luck?”

”Isnʼt that a foolish question?” Fenrir grinned, albeit he hurriedly turned his head away when Nathan glared at him.

Mae shook her head. ”I know the condition of your luck. However, itʼs actually not natural.”

”Not natural? What do you mean?”

Mae raised her finger. ”Canʼt you see it, especially from the women around you?”

”Huh? Whatʼs wrong with them?” Nathan tilted his head in confusion.

”I mean, do you know anything about your luck?”

”I only know that my luck is awful, except for my luck with women.”

”That is indeed true, but havenʼt you noticed that your luck can actually influence the people around you?”

”Are you talking about how an unexpected accident would suddenly fall upon me, which ultimately affected them?”

”No. You misunderstand me.” Mae shook her head helplessly. ”Iʼm talking about while itʼs true that the disadvantages are there, you canʼt ignore the benefits from that luck.”

”Benefit?!” Nathan crossed his arms.

”Yes. The women around you also benefit from your luck. While itʼs true that they have to fight unexpected things, itʼs also true that their achievement today is thanks to you. Itʼs not about teaching them, itʼs about how theyʼre lucky enough to meet you, which ultimately increases their learning speed. Once they meet you, donʼt you realize that their improvement has increased significantly?”

”Huh?” Nathan became even more confused. ”Isnʼt it because of the method…”

”Not at all. If thatʼs the only thing they need to become a top summoner, there will be so many people becoming one right now.

”Your luck actually helps them to understand things better, especially if youʼre the one teaching them. Just like how people suddenly think about something good once in a while, they are experiencing that process over and over again whenever theyʼre with you.

”In other words, normally, even with your methods, itʼs impossible for them to grow at such speed no matter how hard you try.”

”…” Nathanʼs expression turned grim. ”Then…”

”Yeah. If you leave your girls, that luck will be severed. As a result, their improvement speed will decrease. Ah, Iʼm not talking about a temporary leave.” Mae hurriedly corrected herself. ”Iʼm aware that youʼre planning to go on a journey by yourself, so you might be worried it might affect the girls negatively.

”However, it actually doesnʼt work that way. You have already tied your karma with them, and as a result, they benefit from it. Of course, leaving them alone will reduce it to a certain degree, but itʼs not something you should be concerned about.

”For example, Iʼm pretty sure that whenever they are on a separate mission from you, they still encounter an unexpected accident. However, the chance for such a thing occurring decreases, but itʼs not as low as when they havenʼt met you.

”In other words, while itʼs true that the benefits they get from you are less when youʼre away, it doesnʼt mean itʼs completely ineffective.

”In fact, if you leave them for a while and return, they will accumulate some experiences and knowledge. When they benefit from that luck at full force again, it can turn into a sudden enlightenment.

”Hence, Iʼm not saying that this luck is a bad thing. As long as you donʼt cut them off completely, such as permanently banning them from your team, death, or other things that make them unable to return to the group, itʼs going to be fine.”

”…” Nathan looked down. ”I donʼt know what to say.”

”Itʼs understandable for you to think that way. The karmic cycle works mysteriously.” Mae smiled. ”Even though I said all this, I believe you will be fine if you continue the way you are now. Thereʼs no need to adjust your plan or anything.”

”Is that so?”

”Yes.” Mae raised her middle finger, implying the second point. ”And this is where I overstep my bounds. By applying this information, why donʼt you take Miss Iris as your disciple? Although she has become your person, if you take her as your disciple, it might boost her talent even more. Of course, this also means the chance for her to encounter hardship will increase.”

”Still, even though itʼs true, I donʼt really want to take a disciple because I donʼt really have time to take care of them…” Nathan paused, recalling the second dream. One of the three people that appeared in that dream actually called him master.

It didnʼt seem she was Iris… at least from her appearance. But it appeared he took a disciple in that dream.

Mae continued, ”Of course, this is just a suggestion. The final decision will be yours, Master. Itʼs just… this is the first time I see a personʼs fortune work in such a twisted way.”

”Twisted way?”

”Ah!” Mae waved her hands furiously. ”No, no. Iʼm not insulting you. Your fortune is just… unique. Itʼs imbalanced, as though it has been twisted by something else.”

”Twisted by something…” Nathan thought of something. ”Is it an auspicious beast?”

”No. Itʼs something else. Auspicious beasts work in a different way. In your case, if thereʼs an auspicious beast around you, it can probably counter your bad luck to a certain degree. However, it canʼt manipulate your fortune.

”On the other hand, your luck in everything else other than women is at the lowest level. At this point, if you end up going by yourself, you will not find anything or encounter too much danger. Or you might encounter another woman who will turn your luck around.”

”…” Nathanʼs eyebrows twitched. ”Is my luck that horrible?”

”I prefer to call it unique.”

”Then what if I bring you with me? Will that luck change as well?”

”Iʼm honored if Master thinks of me this way, but if I have to answer, then yes.” She smiled. ”Shall I transform, Master? From the memory transferred to me, it appears you want to see me in the human form.”

”You can?” Nathanʼs eyes brightened.

”Of course.”

The divine beasts could only facepalm. Even though Nathan had matured in the past few months, he was still Nathan.

Light began to envelop Mae as her form gradually changed from that of a fox to that of a human. When the light vanished, Nathan couldnʼt help but widen his eyes in shock.
