The others agreed with Li Xianghui’s speculation. Then, he said,

“For the first two possibilities, there’s no way to confirm them now. We can investigate the latter.”

“I’ll go to his company tomorrow and see if there are any problems with the accounts,” Gao Mingjun said.

Li Xianghui nodded. “This will be the key point. Investigate it carefully.”

“Leave it to me.”

“Inspector Li, do you think it has something to do with his wife?” Gu Yiran asked.

“You mean Liu Fang?”

Gu Yiran nodded, “During the interrogation just now, I observed a detail. After learning the news of Song Deyuan’s death, she was very calm. This is a little unusual. Besides, his son was also surprisingly calm, as if he didn’t care about his father’s life at all.”

“Their relationship only exists in name. Although they haven’t gotten a divorce, it seems like they haven’t seen each other for a few months. They don’t have feelings for each other anymore.” Zhang Hui said.

“In addition, his son is usually closer to his mother. Naturally, his feelings for Song Deyuan are very faint. Their attitude is understandable.”

“No! Actually, they have a motive too.” Lin Yi said.

“Song Zhe is still working in the company, and he’s even a vice president. He must know the company’s situation like the back of his hand.”

“Song Deyuan had a mistress. The mother and son were afraid that the mistress would cheat them of their money, so they used this method to kill Song Deyuan. This way, they could legitimately inherit the company.”

“Let’s assume they’re the murderers, but how did they do it?” Mr. Li said.

Everyone fell silent. At this point, the case seemed to have reached a stalemate.

Everyone was suspicious, but their disdain was insufficient.

“It’s a little confusing. I’m trying to sort it out.” Li Xianghui said.

“The first possibility is that Song Deyuan might not have taken any drugs. It’s possible that he committed suicide, but with my many years of experience, the probability of that is very small. Assuming that this is really the case, no one needs to be held responsible for this matter.”

“The second possibility is that Song Deyuan did engage in substance abuse while video chatting with Du Juan. Du Juan might not have intended it to happen, but Song Deyuan hallucinated and fell from the cliff on his own accord. Assuming this is the case, then Du Juan would bear some responsibility, but it wouldn’t be substantial.”

“The third possibility is that Du Juan did engage in inducement, with the motive of gaining his wealth. If this were true, she would bear the primary responsibility.”

“The fourth possibility involves Song Zhe and Liu Fang conspiring to kill Song Deyuan, aiming to inherit all of his wealth before it could be transferred elsewhere. However, there is insufficient evidence for this scenario right now.” Gu Yiran nodded and thought for a moment.

“The forensics team will come up with the results tomorrow. We’ll be able to find out if he’s been taking drugs. That way, we can rule out any inaccurate speculation.”

“Then today’s meeting will end here. We’ll wait for the results tomorrow.”

Whoosh!

After the meeting, Li Xianghui stretched. “It’s getting late. Let’s go home. You don’t have to come so early tomorrow, but don’t be too late.”

“Sure thing.”

After working for nearly a day, everyone was a little tired and prepared to pack up and go home.

Even so, Lin Yi didn’t move. His mind was still on the case.

He felt that something was wrong, but he could not put his finger on it.

After thinking for a few seconds, Lin Yi said to Li Xianghui,

“Brother Li, I want to take the surveillance video back and watch it.”

“Alright.” Li Xianghui didn’t refuse. Instead, he felt that this was a good thing. It meant that Lin Yi was motivated.

After talcing the hard drive, Lin Yi looked at his watch. It was almost eleven o’clock.

He could go back at this time, but Lin Yi didn’t plan to do that. He was going to stay with Li Chuhan for the night.

“Yo, Little Yi, you changed your car. I recall you drove a 570 before.” Zhang Hui laughed and said.

“The color of this car is really flashy.”

“It’s meant to be low-key to prevent Officer Gu from getting jealous.”

“There’s nothing to show off about a car someone else bought for you,” Gu Yiran said, “Your skills are only good enough for driving a Civic.”

“What, you look down on my Civic?” Lin Yi said with a chuckle:

“How about a race?”

“Keep it low-key, would you? Don’t let the brand fool you; her car is a Volkswagen, but it’s been modified. Your Civic might not stand a chance,” Gao Mingjun interjected.

“Haven’t you heard of the Civic’s reputation? It’s a legendary car.”

“Even if it’s legendary, yours is a Civic that’s worth just over 100,000. Hers is a Touareg worth over 300,000 and it’s been modified. You might not necessarily win.”

Gu Yiran raised her head proudly.

“I know you’re good at driving, but I’m not bad either. If I was driving that day, I could easily catch up to you.”

“Then let’s go for a drive. It’s been a long night and I’m not in the mood to sleep. I have nothing to do anyway.” Lin Yi said.

“The bet will be the same as the other day. Do you dare?”

Gu Yiran rolled her eyes, “I’m fine with it. Just make sure you do it too if you lose.”

“Come on, then.”

“The destination will be Pisces Wetland Park. It’s about ten kilometers away. Is there any problem with the route?”

“No problem. Get in the car.”

After setting the route, both got into their cars. Gu Yiran rummaged through her car and found a black pouch, which she tossed to Lin Yi.

“Here, you’ll need this later.”

“You seem pretty familiar with how to handle this.”

“I guess 1 am.” Gu Yiran gave a confident smile and buckled her seatbelt, “I’m sure to win this time.”

“Good luck to you.”

“Good luck.”

Seeing the commotion, Zhang Hui stood in front of the two cars and said loudly,

“Three, two, one, go!”

Boom, boom, boom…

As soon as he finished speaking, the two cars roared and disappeared from everyone’s sight in the blink of an eye.

“What the f*ck!” Gao Mingjun exclaimed, “There’s something wrong with this sound.”

Li Xianghui and Zhang Hui could also tell. “Is his car a Civic?”

“I’m also puzzled. No matter how much the Civic is modified, it won’t be able to make such a sound.”

The three of them pondered for a moment before suddenly looking at each other.

“That kid’s car couldn’t be a Type-R, could it?”

At the same time, Gu Yiran also realized that something was wrong. Lin Yi’s car was surprisingly good!

Was this the performance that a Civic should have?

Could he have modified it as well?

“This is a little slow. I’ll get going first.”

Lin Yi waved at Gu Yiran and stepped on the accelerator!

Gu Yiran gritted her teeth, unwilling to admit defeat. She sped up and tried to catch up to Lin Yi.

However, she realized that she was still dozens of meters away. She could not catch up no matter what!

Ring ring ring!

At this moment, Gu Yiran’s phone rang. It was Gao Mingjun.

However, at that moment, she was no longer in the mood to answer the call!

If she lost again, she would be utterly embarrassed.

Gu Yiran didn’t pick up and hung up the phone. However, Gao Mingjun called again after a few seconds.

Gu Yiran frowned at the fact that he had made two consecutive calls. He had a bad feeling.

After thinking about it, she was afraid that something had happened at the police station, so she picked up the call.

“What is it?”

“You must have been left behind.”

“Huh? How did you know?”

“I’ve long guessed it.” Gao Mingjun smiled.

“The car he’s driving isn’t a normal Civic. It’s a Type-R that sells for more than a million yuan. You definitely won’t be able to catch up..”
