“Um…”

“Your question is quite complex.” Lin Yi pretended to be deep in thought.

“We’ll discuss this during your night shift.”

“Doctor Lin, we’re all working the night shift tonight.”

Seeing the four nurses stand up, Lin Yi felt a little pain in his kidneys.

!!
“Brother Lin, I’m working the night shift today too,” Qiao Xin whispered.

“Um…”

Being a doctor sure took a lot of kidneys!

“Don’t be anxious. This kind of thing has to be evenly distributed. The ancient emperors were particular about being equitable. We have to have a certain respect for our traditions.”

A few nurses laughed out loud, their waists trembling. “In that case, we’ll wait for Doctor Lin.”

About an hour later, Li Chuhan walked in from outside. She glanced around the department and saw that everyone was present.

“Director Miao talked to me just now. From today onwards, I’ll be promoted to being the department director of the cardiology department. Other than that, Lin Yi will be promoted to become a temporary deputy director, but there will be a half-year probation period. He’ll only become the official deputy director after the probation period is over.”

With that, Li Chuhan looked at Qiao Xin. “You don’t have to go to the emergency department anymore. Just stay in the department.”

Li Chuhan’s announcement did not surprise anyone.

Since the department director and the two deputy directors had been arrested, the cardiology department would definitely face a lot of personnel transfers.

This was all within their expectations.

Even though Lin Yi was promoted to deputy director, they could still accept it.

This was because he had completed an extremely difficult surgery a few days ago. This was not something an ordinary person could do.

“The department is currently short of people. Everyone, work hard for a few days. Soon, two new deputy directors will be sent over to take over the previous jobs of former directors Liu and Fan. Everyone, calm down and don’t take this matter to heart.”

“Got it, Director Li.”

Qiao Xin walked up to Li Chuhan with a smile.

“Director Li, congratulations. You should be the youngest department director in our hospital, right?”

Li Chuhan nodded calmly. “I guess so. Doctors are skilled workers. If you all work hard, you will all do well in the future too.”

“Got it, Director Li.”

“I suggest that we find a place to celebrate,” Qiao Xin said.

“We’ll talk about this later. Let’s finish our work first.”

Because of Li Chuhan’s calm and cold personality, this wave of promotion did not cause too many heightened emotions. They continued to busy themselves with their work.

At noon, Lin Yi, Li Chuhan, and Qiao Xin had a simple lunch before starting the final preparations for the surgery in the afternoon.

Li Chuhan also made an exception for Qiao Xin to enter the operating theater to observe.

However, she was only observing and did not have the right to participate.

However, to Qiao Xin, it was already a great honor for her to be able to enter the operating theater to observe as soon as she joined the department.

After lunch, the two of them arrived at Room 804.

Before the surgery, they had to sign some necessary preoperative agreements. This was a necessary procedure.

In the ward, other than Liu Jingwei and his wife, her sister, Liu Jingyu, and the latter’s husband were also there, waiting for the surgery in the afternoon.

After entering, Lin Yi glanced at the four of them.

He realized that the Liu family was mentally and physically exhausted.

Only Liu Jingyu’s wife, Xie Xiaotong, was dressed up like a peacock.

“Before the surgery, I need to go through some questions. We can only perform the final surgery after you sign them,” Qiao Xin said to Liu Jingwei.

“Okay, okay, okay. Doctor, please go ahead,” Liu Jingwei stood up and said.

“Do you agree to let Director Li Chuhan operate on your father?”

“Agreed.”

“Because there is a risk involved in the surgery. If there is an accident, it will be viewed as the voluntary action of the patient and his family. It will have nothing to do with the hospital.”

“No problem.”

“During surgery, many complications may occur, so…”

In the next ten minutes or so, Qiao Xin asked more than ten questions. Liu Jingwei answered them one by one and was very cooperative. He even prepared to sign his name.

“Brother, wait!”

The moment she finished speaking, Liu Jingyu stopped her brother.

“What’s wrong, Sis?”

Liu Jingyu didn’t answer. Instead, she looked at Qiao Xin and said,

“Doctor Qiao, I want to ask, is the success rate of the surgery really only 10%?”

“10% is already a conservative estimate. If we include some unknown risks, the success rate might only be 5%. Director Li has already repeatedly discussed this with the experts from other departments.”

“If we don’t want to proceed with the surgery, can we stop now?” Liu Jingyu asked.

“Of course. However, the preoperative examination fee has already been spent. There’s no way to refund it.”

“It doesn’t matter. We don’t lack that.”

“What are you talking about?!”

Xie Xiaotong was furious. “We’ve already agreed on the surgery. Why can’t we go through with it? Even if there’s only a 5% chance, we still have to give it a try. I have to do everything I can to help Dad live a few more years.”

“What if something happens? Dad might not even be able to get off the operating table!”

“If we don’t perform the surgery, there will be risks in the future. We might as well give it a try now!” Xie Xiaotong said.

“Also, I already said yesterday that you’re no longer a member of the Liu family. This matter has nothing to do with you anymore. I hope you won’t interfere in Dad’s surgery!”

“You!” Liu Jingyu was so angry that her chest heaved.

She wanted to retort but didn’t know what to say.

“What are you waiting for? Hurry up and sign it!”

Xie Xiaotong said to Liu Jingwei.

“Don’t shout. There are so many people here. I’ll sign it now.”

Liu Jingwei did not dare to refute Xie Xiaotong. He took a pen and signed his name across the document.

Seeing Liu Jingwei sign, Xie Xiaotong said,

“Doctor, hurry up and operate on my father. Don’t waste any time,” Xie Xiaotong said.

“The surgery is about to begin. Your family members should get ready.

“We’re ready to start at any time.”

Qiao Xin nodded and walked out with Lin Yi.

“You’re going into the operating room soon. Are you nervous?” Lin Yi asked out of boredom.

“I’m a little nervous, but Brother Lin, have you noticed? The Liu family is so strange.”

“How so?”

“Look at their attire. It’s obvious that they don’t lack money. However, the surgery is about to begin, but they didn’t even hand a red packet to Director Li. This is too strange.”

“What are you talking about? What are you thinking?”

“Brother Lin, don’t be angry. That’s not what I meant,” Qiao Xin explained.

“Normally speaking, before the surgery, in order to ensure the doctor treats the patient well, the family will give the chief surgeon and anesthetist gifts. Although we don’t advocate it and Director Li won’t accept it, this is a normal process in hospitals. You have to acknowledge it.”

Lin Yi nodded. This was indeed a bad tradition in the hospital, and this surgery should be no exception.

“Even if Director Li would refuse it, it’s very interesting that they don’t have any attitude before the surgery.”

At first, Lin Yi didn’t think much of it, but after hearing Qiao Xin’s words, he felt that something was amiss.

If he did not have a system, and if he did not know the doctors in the hospital, he would probably think of a way to give them some gifts when in such a situation.

Just as Qiao Xin had said, if he could make the doctor happy, the latter would treat the patient well.

Therefore, their actions were indeed a little abnormal.

“Alright, don’t worry about this. Just do your job.”

“Brother Lin, I don’t even know if I’m a doctor or a professional banana eater.”
