Rebirth: Starting with 10 Billion Us Dollars

88: Chapter 88 Lu Yong ReleasedInside the Tianxing Technology Industrial Base, the heavy alloy door of the laboratory was tightly shut. Two security personnel stood guard outside 24/7, strictly prohibiting anyone from approaching.

Inside the lab, various precision testing instruments and experimental equipment were neatly arranged.

Chen Mo brought Li Yue to the industrial base’s laboratory. Without greeting anyone, he immediately began his research.

This research lasted for half a month.

Externally, the Tianxing Group blocked all news about Chen Mo. No one knew where he was or what he was doing, nor did anyone know he was in the laboratory, working to break the West’s material blockade.

Meanwhile, on the internet, the entire online world was in an uproar.

The dragon haters, Public Intellectuals, and a group of Western-worshipping opportunists smelled an ’opportunity.’ They collectively reveled, frantically predicting doom. They were everywhere—in every comment section, trending topic, and major forum—jumping around more eagerly than anyone.

On Weibo, a post mocking Chen Mo was pushed to the top of the trending list. Below it were dense, sarcastic comments:

”Hahaha, where’s Chen Mo? Didn’t he claim to have 12.7 billion USD? How come he’s hiding and doesn’t dare show his face now that the West has imposed a blockade?”

”Anyone can talk big! Before, he was slapping the West in the face. Now that he’s been choked, we can’t even see a trace of him, right?”

”I told you so. Medical materials can’t be made just by throwing money at them. He’s just a nouveau riche who talked big and then ran away!”

”It’s all lies, right? That 12.7 billion USD is probably fake. Tianxing’s funding chain might have broken long ago. The lab is just for show, fooling everyone!”

”The West is still the best! One blockade, and domestic medical tech is completely finished. GE and Philips are forever the gods!”

”Chen Mo, come out and apologize! You tricked us into supporting domestic products, then you shrink back and hide like a turtle!”

”Domestic medical tech is a joke. It will never catch up to the West in this lifetime. Just give up already, stop embarrassing yourselves!”

”Maybe Chen Mo has already run off and is hiding abroad, leaving behind a mess for everyone to fend for themselves!”

There were even Public Intellectuals who published long articles specifically praising the West’s technological blockade and disparaging domestic medical technology. Their words were dripping with sycophancy:

”Medical materials and core technologies have never been breakthroughs achieved through impulsive actions. A century of Western accumulation cannot be shaken by an Eastern speculator. Chen Mo’s farce should end. Domestic medical technology is ultimately destined to be crushed...”

Facing the frenzied mockery and rumors from this group, the patriotic ’Little Pink’ netizens held their ground, fighting back against them with all their might:

”Why are you in such a hurry? President Chen is definitely brewing a big move! During the financial war, didn’t he also silently crush Wall Street?”

”Exactly! What’s wrong with secluding himself for R&D? It’s still better than you trash hiding behind screens just to spew hate!”

”So what if the West imposes a blockade? President Chen has plenty of money and ability. He’ll definitely break through it!”

”Stop spreading rumors here. Just wait to get your faces slapped! President Chen will definitely give us a pleasant surprise!”

”We support President Chen! We support domestic medical tech! Even if we have to wait another six months or a year, we’re willing to wait!”

”Have you knelt for so long you can’t stand up anymore? How much money did the West give you to slander President Chen and domestic products so desperately?”

”President Chen has never let anyone down. Just wait and see. It won’t be long before he comes out with results and slaps you all in the face!”

Public opinion across the entire internet became polarized. On one side, the dragon haters and Public Intellectuals reveled in their doom-saying. On the other, the patriotic ’Little Pink’ netizens staunchly supported Chen Mo. The arguments were fierce and unending. Topics about Tianxing and Chen Mo never left the trending lists.

News about the finale of a certain ’God’ of the Chinese music scene’s concert tour and the naming of a ’dedicated star’ almost broke into the trending topics several times, only to be suppressed by the heated discussions about Chen Mo.

This infuriated that certain ’God,’ who reportedly smashed two more phones in anger, his liver aching with rage!

Meanwhile, on Chen Mo’s tenth day in the laboratory, another event quietly unfolded:

On March 15, 2014, the Procuratorate officially approved Lu Yong’s release on bail pending trial.

That morning, the gate of the detention center slowly opened. Lu Yong, wearing simple casual clothes, walked out slowly.

Although his figure was thin, his eyes were bright. He had never regretted his actions.

Outside the gate, fellow patients who had come to welcome him had already crowded the area. Dozens of people held banners and flowers, their faces full of excitement and joy. Seeing Lu Yong emerge, they instantly surrounded him.

”Brother Lu! You’re out! That’s wonderful!”

”Brother Lu, we knew you’d be fine!”

”Brother Lu, thank you!”

A gray-haired fellow patient, hands trembling, held up a banner inscribed with ’Benevolent Heart, Kind Deeds, A Favor as Weighty as a Mountain’ and tearfully presented it to Lu Yong:

”Brother Lu, thanks to you, we patients have been able to survive. You are our lifesaver!”

Lu Yong took the banner, his eyes slightly reddening. He bowed deeply to all the patients and said:

”Thank you, everyone. Thank you, fellow patients. And thank you to the lawyers who have been helping me. I don’t have any special abilities. I just did what I felt I should. I can’t help everyone purchase medicine anymore in the future. I’m sorry.”

The scene was deeply moving. Some couldn’t help but wipe away tears, touched by Lu Yong’s profound sincerity.

Simultaneously, the Procuratorate issued an official announcement:

Lu Yong’s purchase of Indian generic drugs involved no profit-seeking throughout the entire process. It constituted an act of mutual assistance and goodwill among patients and did not constitute a crime. His release on bail pending trial has been approved according to the law. The case will proceed according to legal procedures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the parties involved.

The news spread quickly. After seeing the announcement, Li Yue hesitated for a moment, then picked up the intercom installed outside the laboratory door.

Connecting to the lab’s intercom, she reported:

”President Chen, there’s some news I need to report to you.”

Chen Mo’s voice came from inside:

”Speak.”

Li Yue said:

”President Chen, there’s a result in Lu Yong’s case. The Procuratorate officially approved his release on bail today. He’s already out. Fellow patients went to welcome him, and the authorities have issued an announcement.”

Chen Mo’s voice came through the intercom:

”Understood.”

He had known all along this would be the outcome of Lu Yong’s case.

Soon, there would be no need to travel thousands of miles abroad to purchase generic drugs!

Chen Mo’s voice continued:

”Don’t concern yourself with this matter. Don’t use it for publicity either. Let him live quietly and focus on his own affairs.”

”Understood, President Chen.”

Li Yue replied, then ended the call.

In the following days, Chen Mo continued his research in the laboratory day and night without pause.

Targeting the five core categories of materials under Western blockade—high-end medical sensor core components, superconducting MRI materials, CT detector chip substrates, precision capacitors and resistors, and medical-grade optical components—he dismantled, analyzed, optimized, and tested them one by one, overcoming the three core challenges of insufficient purity, inadequate precision, and poor stability.
