Apocalyptic Wasteland Simulator

Chapter 41: Humiliation! My Brother-In-Law Is One of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?
Does this even require a choice?

Chen Pingchuan was somewhat disappointed with the simulator’s rigidity. After all, they had been together for a while. How could it still not understand his personality?

Am I the kind of person who fears power and authority? Take that Major General Hu. I gave him a thorough beating, and did he even make a peep? Didn’t he just die without a sound? This is absurd...

[You chose option B and gave the two unexpected guests a ”cordial” greeting.]

[The man in the suit ignored you, but Big Beard shot you an odd look.]

[Hearing your words, Xia Qingxue froze on the spot. She quickly recovered, rushing to cover your mouth and yelling at the man opposite her, ”Brother!”]

[You, a man who doesn’t know the meaning of embarrassment, felt your face stiffen for once. You couldn’t understand why Xia Qingxue was so terrified when it was clearly her own brother who had arrived.]

[But you were about to find out why.]

[Xia Qingxue begged her brother to spare your life, stating that she had never asked him for anything her entire life. This would be the first and last time.]

[Your brother-in-law ignored your transgression. Instead, he informed Xia Qingxue that their eldest sister was waiting for them. Her journey of growth had been more successful than expected, and she could return to officially assume the position of Young Palace Master.]

[Xia Qingxue stated that she did not want to go back. She just wanted to stay here quietly until she died, refusing to follow her sister’s path.]

[Her words angered your brother-in-law. He simply said, ”Either you leave, or he dies.” Then he fell silent, awaiting her decision.]

[Standing beside Xia Qingxue, you had a sudden realization. Although they were siblings, their statuses were completely unequal. As her significant other, you naturally had to step up.]

[You were stomped under your brother-in-law’s foot. If not for your substantial physical stats, you suspect your face would have been flattened.]

[What terrified you even more was that you didn’t even see how he had managed to pin you to the ground.]

[Seeing your miserable state, Xia Qingxue’s face went deathly pale. She finally understood the heart-wrenching pain that took her breath away. Suppressing her grief and fury, she angrily chastised her brother.]

[Her words were as follows.]

[”As one of the few top powerhouses in the Great Ming Empire, a War Mechanical Knight known as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, is this really how you treat an ordinary person?”]

Chen Pingchuan fumed, simultaneously marveling at the changes in the latest update.

Even though that was just my simulated self, and even though every run ends in death, being trampled underfoot like that... This assault on my dignity is completely unacceptable.

Besides the loli, Chen Pingchuan’s blacklist now included a brother-in-law with whom he had an extremely poor relationship.

I don’t care who you are or what background you have, but you’ve made an enemy of my future self. The moment my combat power is great enough to crush you, I will teach you the meaning of brutality.

Chen Pingchuan sat on the stool, gritting his teeth in anger. This feud was now a serious one.

[Your opponent flashed back to his previous position. Your brother-in-law told Xia Qingxue that if she returned with him now, he would spare your life. Otherwise, he would grind your bones to dust and scatter your ashes.]

[Xia Qingxue agreed to his terms, preparing to leave you to protect you as per your prior agreement.]

[Catching them off guard, you hurled all the Mind-Scrambling Potions from your waist in a single motion.]

[Perhaps out of disdain, or perhaps because they couldn’t imagine an ant like you could possibly harm them, neither your brother-in-law nor Big Beard took a defensive stance.]

[Looking at them, you knew they were overconfident in their power. Sure enough, just as the potions were about to hit them, a translucent blue energy shield materialized, deflecting the vials.]

[Both sides were laughing. Big Beard laughed at your ignorance, for you didn’t even know about a basic defensive measure like an energy shield. You, in turn, laughed at their arrogance, for they were oblivious to the simple physical principle that gas spreads through the air.]

[As the vials shattered, the liquid from the Mind-Scrambling Potions instantly vaporized, drifting into their nostrils.]

Ha! Underestimated me, did you? Let’s see you handle this big surprise from a genius inventor!

Seeing this, Chen Pingchuan felt the suffocating pressure in his chest ease slightly. According to the potion’s description, even if the effect was short-lived, it would be enough to put them in an embarrassing situation and give him some satisfaction.

He then took out his notebook and jotted down his understanding of the new simulator version.

When the simulation presents a choice that could change the direction of my life’s trajectory, I need to choose carefully, as it affects the development of the future timeline. For example, if I had chosen to let Xia Qingxue leave at the beginning, her family wouldn’t have come looking for trouble later on. Pfft! What family? They’re mortal enemies.

Chen Pingchuan scribbled in his notebook again, crossing out ”brother-in-law” and relabeling him ”Poker Face.”

As for the second choice, not only did I refuse to hand over Xia Qingxue, but I also insulted them. Maybe that’s why he humiliated me. Did I get under his skin?

Chen Pingchuan drew a question mark after the sentence. He wanted to see what would happen next.

[The exosuit-clad Big Beard’s eyes instantly turned bloodshot. He activated his combat mode, his entire body becoming encased in armor, and launched a ferocious assault on Poker Face.]

[You seized the opportunity, pulling Xia Qingxue toward the nearby off-road vehicle to escape. However, out of the corner of your eye, you noticed that Poker Face was completely unaffected by your potion. He effortlessly parried Big Beard’s attacks while staring at you, his expression unchanging.]

[You and Xia Qingxue safely got into the off-road vehicle. You floored the accelerator, but a voice in your gut told you that you couldn’t escape.]

[To your surprise, you actually managed to escape back to the outer district.]

[Although you had shaken your pursuers, Xia Qingxue still couldn’t relax.]

[You took Xia Qingxue to your small courtyard first and awakened Black Demon No. 1. Its power growth was severely limited due to an insufficient supply of Black Magic Stone. While it was stronger than an ordinary third-stage gene-enhanced warrior, its strength was still inadequate.]

[With Xia Qingxue and Black Demon No. 1, you slipped into the City of No Night through a secret passage.]

”Phew!”

They can’t possibly force their way into the City of No Night just to hunt us down, right? Chen Pingchuan thought, a lingering fear in his heart.

At the same time, his mind was flooded with even more questions. Based on past experience, if he mentally filtered out the newly added environmental and character descriptions, the remaining simulation results were still packed with information. The simple text hid deep, inscrutable meanings.

For example, why was the Mind-Scrambling Potion ineffective against Poker Face? Was it because he was too powerful, or was he perhaps not human?

Chen Pingchuan clearly remembered the item description for the Mind-Scrambling Potion: ineffective against non-carbon-based life forms.

Most importantly, based on how Xia Qingxue described her brother in the simulation... one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, a War Mechanical Knight, a top-tier powerhouse. Each of those titles alone sounds incredibly formidable, and now they all apply to one person. Unless you’re an idiot, it should be obvious that this Poker Face is extremely strong! So, would he really be held up by his companion?
