Apocalyptic Wasteland Simulator

Chapter 30: Unlucky! God of Misfortune Possessed
[If you run out of paper, you can go retrieve it naked. But if the water stops, you’re in a real bind.]

Chen Pingchuan sucked in a sharp breath. The God of Misfortune is watching... This is terrifying! He could feel a chill run down his spine just reading the simulation’s text; the indescribable feeling was just so messed up.

[Suffocated by the stench for half the night, you tossed and turned, unable to sleep until five in the morning. Just as you were about to drift off, a sudden, urgent communication alert woke you. You offered the person on the other end of the line a few choice words. There was a brief silence, and then Xia Qingxue’s voice came through the communicator. You felt a bit awkward, not knowing how to explain, and Xia Qingxue didn’t explain why she hadn’t answered your call yesterday. Both of you fell silent. A few minutes later, you declined Xia Qingxue’s invitation to hang out, claiming you had work to do, and decisively ended the call. You were exhausted, yet you couldn’t fall asleep no matter how you tried. With dark circles under your eyes, you began to grind away at the pile of research materials related to the genetic agent. You believe that you will one day become a god, and that such minor hardships could never hinder your progress.]

「Three days later, you found your progress blocked.」

[Xia Qingxue asked you out again, and you reluctantly agreed. Due to the misunderstanding between you, it still felt awkward even though you pretended nothing had happened. Xia Qingxue noticed the change in your attitude towards her, but she didn’t ask why, only looking a bit forlorn. Even so, that night, the two of you engaged in some... deep academic exchanges, unlocking various scenarios. You were quite satisfied with your own imagination. Over the next month, you kept encountering all sorts of bad luck, but you easily resolved most of it. During this period, you faced repeated setbacks in your research, but phase one of the Doomsday Bunker project was completed on schedule.]

Is that it? Chen Pingchuan scoffed at this Jinxed blue negative talent. Aside from the first day’s unbearable encounter, the following month didn’t seem as disastrous as he had imagined.

[You acknowledged the work of Guo Yihang and Liu Yaofei. Just as you were feeling pleased about this, Xia Qingxue called to tell you she had left something for you at her apartment. You didn’t think much of it and continued to study the materials in your hands. Two days later, having heard nothing more from Xia Qingxue, you sensed something was wrong. That elusive little vixen had never gone so long without contacting you. You rushed to Xia Qingxue’s apartment and found the items on the table: a residency permit for the City of No Night, an admission notice from Spring City’s top modification academy, and a farewell letter. You opened the envelope to find just a few short words: *Forget me!*]

Well, I’ll be. So this is what you had in store for me. A bitter smile touched Chen Pingchuan’s lips. He genuinely hadn’t expected this outcome. If he wasn’t mistaken, he had completely misunderstood Xia Qingxue. Her recent disappearance was likely because she was busy running around for these things. The Jinxed talent really was something else; with just a few minor tweaks at critical moments, it could change the entire course of events. A misunderstanding that could have been cleared up with a single sentence had dragged on for a whole month, leading to their separation. And this was after she had previously stayed with him for several months at a time.

That silly girl, really... Chen Pingchuan didn’t know what to say. He could only continue the simulation.

[Staring at the items before you, you were unable to let them go, realizing that you had actually fallen in love with this mortal. For the next few days, you completely lost your appetite. A week later, you refocused your attention on the genetic agent research and decided to leave the outer district to live in the Doomsday Bunker at the cement plant. Just as you were about to leave, you were hit by the first wave of attacks. The assailants were a group of hip-hop-attired thugs, about a hundred strong, all charging you with blades, spears, and clubs. After some effort, you managed to break their arms and legs.]

I knew it wouldn’t be that easy. Chen Pingchuan’s lips twitched. ”Brother Mei, I was out of line just now,” he muttered. ”You’re a bigger person than me, so please don’t hold it against me. Could you go easy on me? Just a little? I’m afraid of pain!”

Chen Pingchuan wasn’t sure if his mumbling would affect the simulation results, but it offered a small measure of comfort.

[Having just dealt with one batch of trash, you saw another group approaching: black-clad thugs in suits. Compared to the earlier goons, their equipment was far superior. Relying on the power of their weapons, they brutally suppressed you. Annoyed by these pests, you unleashed your power! Displaying unparalleled ability, you moved at a speed imperceptible to the naked eye, appearing next to the black-clad thugs and taking them down with a single punch each. Unlike the earlier goons with their broken limbs, you showed no mercy to enemies wielding long-range weapons. The men in black you sent flying all coughed up blood, clearly not long for this world. You were quite satisfied with your own strength. Just as you were about to leave this troubled place, the outer district’s official forces intervened. A special operations unit armed with advanced weapons appeared on the battlefield. They wielded rifles, machine guns, grenades, and even rocket launchers. The sight made your scalp tingle. Using a building as cover, you barely dodged the hail of bullets and shells. Pinned down by their overwhelming firepower, you could do nothing but desperately hold on, unable to retaliate. Enraged, you summoned your ultimate weapon—Black Demon No. 1. Through your tight cooperation, the special operations unit’s defensive line was broken. In this life-or-death battle, neither side could hold back. Both you and your prized possession sustained minor injuries, while the opposition was annihilated. Every last combatant was slaughtered by the two of you. As the blood pooled and flowed into the storm drains, the saying, ’When a god rages, blood flows like rivers,’ came to mind, and you finally understood its true meaning. During the battle, your van was destroyed, forcing you to leave on foot. On a deserted street three kilometers from your apartment, you commandeered a passing taxi. Only after you had escaped the outer district did the deafening sirens finally begin to wail across the city.]

Chen Pingchuan frowned deeply. The simulation was revealing a pattern to this Jinxed talent. Bad luck didn’t just materialize out of nowhere; like the earlier bathroom incident, it needed a catalyst.

The first wave of attackers was clearly old acquaintances from the Purple Bird Gang. Judging by their attire, they weren’t exactly heavy hitters. The second wave was probably related to the Energy Crystal exchange, as previous simulations had hinted they possessed conventional weapons.

But the third wave, the assault from official forces... what had triggered that?
