243 Deputy Investigator
A female police officer who drove an Aston Martin? Missie, your family is already so rich, why don’t you just work for the government? Otherwise, the Prosecution Office or the courts are much better places than working as a police, which is such a hectic occupation!

Chen Fan could obviously feel that his brain capacity could not cope with the current situation. These scenarios could only happen in novels, so how could this have happened to him?

He speedily turned his head to take a glance, and saw that Zhang Bingbing was facing him with her back. She was unaware of the events that were happening on this side.

Zhonghai City Police Identification Card

Name: Zhang Bingbing

Job: Deputy Investigator

Rank: Class 2 Commissioner

Identification Number: 1045832

Work Unit: Zhonghai City Police Station

As above seen, the card read, ”Deputy Investigator in the Police Bureau,” which was the equivalent to enjoying the entitlement of a Deputy Police Commissioner, but really being a technical personnel who does not hold any actual leadership position.

”Deputy Investigator” sounded like a rookie ranking, but in reality, it wasn’t. It had the same privileges as a Deputy Head of County. So, if the Director-General of the police bureau decided to give her an instruction, she could take up different types of positions.

This is to say that this petite little chick was actually a female police of a certain high rank?!

Even if one were to guess her age to its maximum, including her four years in police school, where she graduated at the age of 22 and had since worked for a year or two...

If she held such a prominent police rank in some remote county, her situation shouldn’t be too unacceptable, so long as her school was reputable enough and she had gathered robust connections. However, her workplace was situated in Zhonghai City, which carried the title of a ”Globalized Metropolis, The Pearl of the Orient.”

One must not assume that her current position was as a nobody in Zhonghai City. If this title had landed in the counties below, that would at least fetch her a ranking of a Captain or a Deputy Director-General. If connections were solid, one could even hold the badge of a political commissary.

However, this wasn’t impossible for her, since the State had been advocating for younger participation in the regime, and a handful of people in their twenties had managed to join the administrative body of a county.

”This can’t be it…” Chen Fan cried out. ”Even such a lunatic like her could make it into the police bureau?! How can the people still rely on the police to punish criminals and glorify virtuous deeds now?”

”Are you done staring?” It was unknown how long Zhang Bingbing had stood behind him. Wrapped in a blanket, she looked at Chen Fan emotionlessly. Apparently, she had overheard Chen Fan’s remarks that she was a lunatic.

”D...done...” Chen Fan helplessly blushed, as if he was a harmful thief who was caught red-handed. He had been a named target of Zhongyun City’s police station, so now that he saw a police of that station, of course he would tremble.

”Then what are you waiting for? Were you expecting me to buy you a meal in prison?” Zhang Bingbing held her booklet and softly tapped her temple.

This gesture she made was utterly charming. It even made Chen Fan, whose mind had gone as far as Jawa, gasp in admiration.

”I’ll go… go now!” Chen Fan secretly gulped his saliva down twice, then swiftly buttoned up his shirt and left the door as silently as he could.

”Oh right!” Chen Fan, who’d been thought to have left, stuck his head out and asked caringly, ”I’d suggest you see a psychiatrist. I have a friend with a masters degree in psychology, specializing in analysis and consultancy of psychological and emotional issues. I can give you her number. The bill’s on me.”

”Get lost!” She turned livid, instantly grabbing a pillow and throwing it at Chen Fan.

......

Zhang Bingbing, who was lying on the bed, felt dazed as she stared at the already-cold sheets on the other half of the bed. She knew that she would never forget this night, this man, her first time. Sparkling and transparent tears silently filled her eyes.

Born to a reputable family in Zhongyun City, she could have followed the pathway that her family had arranged for her. Upon graduation, she would have become the assistant of the finance department of her family’s company. After two years of training, she would then officially take over the jobs in the financial department to become a diamond collar, which was greatly admired by everyone.

However, in her case, the ”rebellious mentality” cast a heavier weight on her. Since her freshman years at middle school, she had already started to resist all the arrangements her parents had made for her. She wanted to embark on a pathway of her own choice with no restraints.

She was a late born of her parents. By then, two of her elder brothers were already established in both their careers and families. Therefore, she was pampered by them like a princess.

Seeing that she resented so much the managing of the company, they decided to release their grip and allowed her to do things to her own liking. After all, she was looked after by her family members, so there was no way she could go down the wrong path.

As to why she had joined the police, it was purely out of coincidence. In high school, when they were supposed to fill in their university application forms, she asked her playmate, a best friend since elementary school named Hu Qian, ”Which university are you planning to enter?”

Her best friend, who shared everything with her, maybe with the exception of her husband, was a lively and crazy-spirited person. The trouble she had created from elementary school to high school was uncountable. During P.E., she hid a boy’s jacket in the ladies room, and was bold enough to have that guy address her as ”Big Sister,” only then would she return the jacket to him!

So, when asked which university she had applied to, Hu Qian patted her chest with pride and said, I’m prepared to apply for the People’s Public Security University of China. Why don’t you apply there, too? Let’s join the police force together, that way we can wipe out all the criminals and scums of the society to restore the country’s peace and stability. Unable to resist her bestie’s artful persuasions, Zhang Bingbing decided to grit her teeth and change her university application to the People’s Public Security University at once.

As the country’s best police school, the entry requirement of the People’s Public Security University was not any lower than Fudan University’s requirements. They were very strict on the selection of their students. Anyone who was too fat or too skinny, or who had a bad political track record would definitely not be enrolled. Regardless, this wasn’t an issue for the two girls, who both scored remarkable results and came from fairly distinguished families.

Her resume during school now read quite impressively, in fact: Outstanding member of the Chinese Communist Party, Deputy Chairman of the students’ council, commended with a Second Grade Merit by the School thrice, and even allocated to the ”elite model class,” to which its composition was only constituted by a few number of First or Second Class model police, as an assistant lecturer.

After graduating with outstanding results at the People’s Public Security University of China, the deputy director of Zhonghai City’s public security bureau, Chen Yalan, personally called to the university to persuade her to come back to her hometown for the public servant examination.

True gold fears no fire it is said, so she returned to Zhongyun City, having not failed her superior’s ardent expectations. It only took her a short period of two years to be promoted from a normal investigative technical officer to Deputy Investigator. She had also been transferred to a few other provinces to participate in investigative operations.

Just 10 days ago, in the case of the 213 Mega Drug Smuggling case, she relied on her own talents and caught the mastermind of the crime, Zhu Qiang, along with his five main accomplices. For this, she was awarded by the police bureau a ”Second Class Model Police” medal. Also, she would be taking up the post of Captain in the second team of the investigative squad, which was a key position for young cadets in cultivation.

Zhang Bingbing was 24 years old, 23 and a half if you wanted to get really technical, and she had already taken up the position of Captain. Within the entire jurisdiction of Tianhai City, she was the youngest three of those who held similar positions.

According to usual circumstances, she should be proud of her achievements, but the reality was on the contrary. She was now in deep agony. If she could turn back time, she’d rather strip off her police uniform and back off from participating in the 123 Mega Drug Smuggling Case.

”Qianqian...Qianqian…I’ve failed you, I’ve failed you…” Zhang Bingbing curled up on her bed, covered her mouth, and broke down in tears.

............

”Ding dong...ding dong…” I am an idle person on the virgin’s track. Which pretty maiden could come and invite me to exit the track three times…

Sitting in his grey Lamborghini, Chen Fan whistled a tune while he steered his car toward Zhongyun City!
