Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

318: An unforgettable dayThis time, Xu Bai did not go to the combat monitoring room; instead, like everyone else, he stayed in the venue in front of the big screen, waiting for the live broadcast to begin.

Xu Bai sat in a circle with Xu Le, Wu Zijin, Liu Mengyun, and Liu Mengyan, warming themselves by a small heater while they waited.

Fortunately, everyone was indoors, so it wasn’t too cold. Outside, the cold wind was howling, but inside, many people had brought small heaters to raise the temperature, which also prevented the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning from burning coal.

It just goes to show how much people’s lives have changed.

...

”Come sit here, it’s about to start, stop dawdling.”

”Xiaobao, don’t be afraid when the time comes; all the alien beasts will be defeated.”

”Mm-hmm, I’m not afraid.”

”Sit down quickly and turn off the lights, otherwise the screen will have a glare.”

”It’s almost starting, call your dad over immediately. Oh, and tell him we’re in the sixth row, seat number 22, by the blue chairs. Make sure he doesn’t go to the wrong place.”

”Hurry, hurry, there are no seats left in the front. Let’s see if there are any empty spots in the middle, otherwise we won’t be able to see clearly from the back.”

”Oh, I specifically got glasses just so I could see clearly.”

...

The voices from nearby kept reaching Xu Bai’s ears. He felt as if he had arrived at a movie theater, where everyone was waiting to watch a film.

Fortunately, they had arrived relatively late, so the noise didn’t last long. The live broadcast was about to begin, and the big screen in front lit up.

This was a real-time live broadcast, not an edited one, so there was no build-up and no suspense.

The crowd saw the footage of the Beast Tide advancing directly.

Although the scene wasn’t bloody, the people around him gasped in unison. The oppressive feeling of the massive horde of alien beasts advancing still made the people in front of the screen feel afraid.

Through the surveillance footage, many people living in the safe zones were likely seeing alien beasts for the first time, and seeing so many of them at once was also a first.

Honestly, even facing a single alien beast would make their legs go weak. Facing thousands of them now made them even weaker. They could only be thankful that they were sitting down, and that the chairs had backrests to lean on; otherwise, they would have collapsed to the floor.

Immediately after, the drones began their operation. Watching the scene of one alien beast after another falling, the audience clapped, cheered, and shouted.

These drones seemed to give them immense courage, dispelling the fear deep in their hearts.

At this moment, some children were even bolder; instead of crying in fear, they clapped and cheered, saying that they wanted to be soldiers when they grew up.

Xu Bai listened to these innocent words, a smile appearing on the corner of his mouth.

If the youth are strong, the country is strong. The decision to broadcast this was indeed very correct, as it helped these children establish the right values and prevented them from going astray.

...

”Wow, what is that?”

As soon as the voice fell, the crowd became noisy. The sounds contained not fear, but excitement.

They were all curious about what had just appeared.

Xu Bai shifted his gaze from the children to the screen in front, only to discover that it was mechs that had appeared.

This was the first time the mechs had made an appearance.

A total of three colors of mechs appeared: one was pure black, one was orange-red, and another was sky blue.

These three models corresponded to the most prominent functions: strong attack, strong defense, and high mobility, respectively.

The mechs charged into the group of alien beasts, then slashed down with their swords, injuring a large swath of them.

Compared to the alien beasts beside them, the size of the mechs was like the difference between an adult and a child; the mechs were three times larger than the alien beasts next to them.

Seeing the mechs easily slicing the alien beasts in two as if they were chopping vegetables, the crowd became even less afraid and cheered for the mechs.

Immediately after, flying alien beasts appeared. Although their eyes were bloodshot and they had lost their reason, their subconscious might have compelled them to swoop down, claw at the mechs, and try to carry them into the high altitude.

The audience collectively held their breath for the mechs, fearing that they would be snatched by the flying alien beasts.

After all, in everyone’s minds, for something so large, being able to run on the ground was already quite remarkable, let alone flying in the sky.

The scene that followed made all the viewers watching in front of the live broadcast screen drop their jaws.

The mechs, which were behemoths to them, flew up nimbly and engaged in combat with the flying alien beasts in the sky.

Some people with sharp eyes also observed the differences in the mechs’ colors.

The pure black mechs basically used weapons like blades and swords; a single swing had immense lethality. They were not afraid of close combat with low-grade alien beasts, but would dodge when encountering high-grade alien beasts.

The orange-red mechs were very eye-catching. They held a large shield in their hands, and when high-grade alien beasts attacked, they could block with the shield without it sustaining any damage.

As for the sky-blue mechs, they basically flew in the sky. People’s eyes couldn’t even track them, and only when they were fighting the flying alien beasts could they catch a glimpse of their movements.

This scene planted a seed in everyone’s hearts, and no one knew when this seed would take root and sprout.

Of course, many questions also arose in everyone’s minds:

What kind of weapon is this?

Can I also possess this weapon?

Who created this weapon?

...

Unfortunately, even though everyone asked the people beside them, no one could answer these questions for them. They could only wait for tomorrow’s newspaper, which would likely report on it.

Next was the tug-of-war between the alien beasts and humanity.

Although the live broadcast had no voiceover commentary and many of the scenes were the same, the crowd didn’t feel bored and watched with great interest.

Watching the broadcast, they discussed which type of alien beast was more powerful, who had researched the weapons in the soldiers’ hands, and which alien beasts they had once fought against themselves, and so on.

Regarding the topics of alien beasts and weapons, the crowd could gather together for three days and three nights and still not finish discussing them.

Xu Bai watched the footage in the broadcast and then compared it to the scene of the previous battle, feeling that the last one had been a bit more tragic.

It just goes to show that whether alien beasts have intelligence or not makes a huge difference.

However, this Beast Tide and the previous war would surely deal a heavy blow to the alien beasts. It was estimated that within twenty years, those Super-High-Grade Alien Beasts would not dare to initiate a war.

Twenty years from now, Xu Bai felt confident that he would be able to upgrade the weapons to be even better and more powerful.

...

Time passed little by little, and the Beast Tide slowly retreated.

People hugged each other and cheered; they had defeated another Beast Tide.

Today was an unforgettable day.

For everyone in the Tianlong Republic, it was deeply impressive; it could be said that many people would never forget this scene until they died.
