Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

309: bizarre appearancesDecember 2nd.

Early in the morning, before the sun had risen, Xu Bai opened his eyes.

Feeling the cold air outside, Xu Bai couldn’t help but shrink back; why was it so cold today?

It wasn’t until the second alarm clock rang again that Xu Bai left his warm bed to get up.

In winter, once you leave the bed, the rest of the tasks are much easier, and soon, Xu Bai had finished washing up.

Looking at the clothes in the wardrobe, Xu Bai thought for a moment; he didn’t put on the jacket he wore daily, but instead took out the Researcher’s white coat and put it on.

When he arrived at the cafeteria, Xu Bai discovered that Bai Shan was also wearing the same clothes as him.

They had the same idea; there would definitely be a lot of people in the monitoring room later. Wearing their respective uniforms was, firstly, to make it easier for others to distinguish them, and secondly, because it was more formal.

The two didn’t chat much, quickly finishing their respective breakfasts before getting up to go to the administrator’s office, waiting for him to arrange personnel to escort them over.

Just as they left the cafeteria, they saw the administrator walking towards them, and the administrator was also wearing a white Researcher’s uniform.

”Let’s set off together.”

Bai Shan asked, ”You’re coming too?”

”Of course, we are in this together.”

Xu Bai hadn’t expected that more and more people would be going to the battle monitoring room, but it was because the three of them had high enough clearance to be approved to enter this monitoring room; others, like Wu Zijin, couldn’t go.

When the three walked out of the Research Institute, they discovered that the outside was already covered in a layer of snow; it must have snowed last night.

Would the snow affect today’s battle?

This question flashed through Xu Bai’s mind and vanished in an instant.

The three of them got into a car and headed imposingly towards their destination.

...

One hour later.

The convoy arrived at the war monitoring room set up by the Government. This place was, naturally, set up underground. Xu Bai was not surprised by this; it would only surprise him if it were set up in the sky.

After their team arrived, they had to go through layers of checks. In the end, only the three of them could go in; the others had to stay outside.

Walking through the long corridor to the door, the person leading them knocked, then slid their three identity cards through the gap. After waiting for a minute, the door opened.

Immediately after, the guide led them to their spots and then retreated. Looking at the three empty seats next to them, he silently chose one and sat down. These three seats must have been temporarily arranged for the three of them, as there hadn’t been enough time to put labels with their names on them yet.

Xu Bai looked around and discovered that the surrounding walls were green. The material pasted on them must have been the material researched by Ai Xunyan that could isolate his probe cards. He hadn’t expected it to be used here; perhaps they were worried that the probe cards would expose this location.

Following that, Xu Bai looked around at everyone in the monitoring room. There were quite a lot of people here, most of whom he didn’t recognize. However, now wasn’t the time to meet new people, so Xu Bai didn’t greet them. They were also busy with their own affairs and didn’t pay any attention to Xu Bai and his companions.

Next, Xu Bai intended to turn his gaze to the monitoring screens in front. At this moment, Mr. Number Three was turning his head to look around and met Xu Bai’s gaze. The two nodded at each other.

There were no exotic beasts appearing on the monitoring screens yet, so Xu Bai took a card from his pocket and inserted it into the card reader. In a short while, a pen and a notebook appeared in his hand; he planned to take notes while observing.

Bai Shan nudged Xu Bai’s elbow with his own, his eyes looking at the notebook in Xu Bai’s hand.

Xu Bai understood, re-inserted the card into the reader, took out two more notebooks and two pens, and handed one set to each of the two people beside him.

The three of them sat in their seats, obediently holding their notebooks and pens like Students. At the Research Institute, they were the bosses, but here, they could only be underlings.

Time passed bit by bit, and soon it was 3:30.

The atmosphere in the monitoring room became increasingly tense; after all, there was only half an hour left until the time the exotic beasts had proposed for the attack.

Mr. Number Eight took a sip of water to moisten his throat.

”Everyone, please pay attention and keep an eye on the monitoring screens at all times. Observe to see if there are any exotic beasts that have come to scout ahead, especially now that there is a layer of snow outside; some small exotic beasts might be hiding in the snow.”

”Received.”

The observers kept their eyes firmly fixed on the screens assigned to them.

Twenty minutes passed.

Qi Weiqi was the first to discover an anomaly.

”An exotic beast has appeared on monitoring screen No. 6.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the feed from monitoring screen No. 6 was moved to the large central screen, and Xu Bai also looked towards the central screen.

Seeing this image, Mr. Number Three let out a breath and turned his head to say to Mr. Number Eight.

”It looks like the other side is still acting according to the original plan and doesn’t intend to back down. Sending exotic beasts out now is likely to probe the situation.”

Mr. Number Eight replied, ”That suits our intentions perfectly.”

Another ten minutes passed.

”The time has arrived.”

Someone issued a prompt.

”Move the surveillance of the area near the exotic beasts to screens 1 through 10. Team 5, pay attention to observing their movements. Team 6, remember to estimate the approximate quantity. Team 1, let them begin their action. Team 2, report the information from the front to me at any time. ...”

Mr. Number Eight issued a series of commands, and the captains of each team responded with ”Received” one after another, then began to arrange their work.

Xu Bai’s hand gripping the pen tightened, then relaxed again as he continued to observe the monitoring screens in front.

Other colors gradually appeared on the monitoring screens that had previously been a vast expanse of white, looking mostly like snow: red, black, brown, and yellow. The exotic beasts were like waves, rushing up in a sudden surge, and then gradually, there were more and more exotic beasts on the screen.

The appearances of these exotic beasts were bizarre. Xu Bai basically didn’t recognize any of them, but some of their features were very similar to some animals he had seen before. Using these features, Xu Bai mentally categorized them into certain types.

Some of the exotic beasts at the very front looked like rodents, with pointed snouts in the front and tails just like rats, but their size was not like a rat’s. Their size was about the same as a normal adult human; this was judged based on the trees nearby.

However, this size was still very large. Imagine a rat as big as a human in front of you. Some people would run away in fear even seeing a palm-sized rat; if they saw a rat this big in front of them, they would probably be scared to death.

Xu Bai shook his head, casting these thoughts away. The situations in the two worlds were different, and these things were not comparable. If people were truly in a crisis and their lives were threatened, who would still be afraid of a rat? They would even dare to kill a tiger.
