Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

312: stubbornThe event had already occurred, and Xu Bai possessed no ability to turn back time; he could only think about how to prevent such situations in the future.

Previously, he hadn’t imagined that flying beasts would cooperate to lift a tank.

Right, during a Beast Tide, the beasts lose their rationality, so they indeed wouldn’t cooperate, which is why no one gave a warning, and perhaps others hadn’t thought of it either.

Xu Bai had always assumed that for tanks with equivalent protective capabilities, lighter was better; after all, tank development in his previous life had always trended toward lightweight designs.

Lightweight tanks had lower power requirements, consumed fewer blank cards, and were more agile.

However, in this battle, he realized that the tanks in this world needed to be heavier to prevent them from being easily lifted by flying beasts, which meant the tanks needed to increase their weight.

Of course, increasing a tank’s weight wasn’t just a simple addition; many other areas needed to change as well. First, the engine inside the tank would need an upgrade to handle the increased weight, and secondly...

Xu Bai marked six dots in his notebook; the rest would require everyone to discuss and research together.

Of course, there was a workaround; he could add crash-proof walls inside the tanks and have the personnel wear protective gear. However, this was only treating the symptoms, not the root cause. If the tank flipped over, they would still have no way to right it and resume the attack.

Another point was that since drones could fly upward, could they design a device on the tanks that would allow them to sink or anchor themselves downward?

However, implementing these ideas would take time; they wouldn’t make it in time for this war, and during the next war, the beasts would lose their rationality again, making such optimizations unnecessary.

Still, that didn’t mean what Xu Bai thought of was useless; it just meant it wasn’t useful for the current situation.

The flying beasts moved quickly, but Mr. Number Eight’s reaction was just as fast, immediately arranging for snipers and corresponding drones to attack them.

The people who died in those tanks could not be saved, and their bodies could not be retrieved for now; everything would have to wait until the war ended.

War always involves sacrifice; this was unavoidable.

After writing, Xu Bai did not shy away from the monitors but continued to observe the battle situation.

Time passed quickly. Someone brought in food again, and everyone realized it was time to eat.

Xu Bai checked his watch and saw that it was already 6:00 PM; thirteen hours had passed since the beasts began their attack.

Actually, a round of food had been delivered at 12:00, but although the people present hadn’t engaged in strenuous physical activity, their minds had been constantly working. By now, the food in everyone’s stomachs had long since been digested, leaving them empty.

Many people in the monitoring room ate their food right there while watching the monitors.

Xu Bai and his two companions were led out by Wu Yunshan because their time was up, and they had to return.

Although they currently held high clearance, it was wartime, and everything had to be conducted according to wartime regulations. They couldn’t stay in the combat monitoring room as long as they wanted; they needed to pre-arrange their arrival and departure times, and if they wanted to come back, they would need to apply again.

As he walked, Xu Bai silently gnawed on the bread in his hand, though he couldn’t taste it because his thoughts were far away.

It appeared that this was just the beginning of the war, and it hadn’t truly reached the white-hot stage yet.

After all, only a few high-level beasts had appeared on the enemy side, with many more yet to emerge, and the human side hadn’t deployed all their weapons either.

”War is like this. It might stalemate for a while, and then the actual siege will begin, which might be even uglier. Are you all coming back tomorrow?”

Looking at the three people beside him silently gnawing on their bread, Wu Yunshan offered some words of comfort while asking about their plans for tomorrow.

”I know.”

Bai Shan’s slightly hoarse voice rang out.

He had lived for so many years and had seen the death tolls from every annual Beast Tide. He considered himself someone who had weathered great storms and thought he would be fine, but having seen it with his own eyes just now, a wave of sorrow had welled up in his heart. He felt exhausted now, more so than after staying up late for research.

Of course, Bai Shan would not admit that he couldn’t handle it emotionally; he simply attributed it to his old age.

”Sigh, sometimes I have to admit I’m getting old. My back aches from sitting for so long. I won’t come tomorrow; I probably need a good sleep. How about you two?”

The Administrator shook his head silently: ”There are still some things to do at the Research Institute, so I won’t be coming tomorrow either.”

Xu Bai: ...

The two stubborn individuals were still putting up a front. Xu Bai felt he should give them some face, so he didn’t call out their lies.

Xu Bai: ”Could I come back to observe for one more day tomorrow? It would be helpful for my weapon research.”

”Alright, then you need to register here and select your arrival and departure times for tomorrow.”

”Okay.”

Xu Bai followed the person nearby to register. Behind him, Bai Shan and the Administrator exchanged a silent glance, saw the bloodshot eyes in each other, and then silently looked away.

Sitting in the car on the way back, Bai Shan couldn’t help but pat Xu Bai on the shoulder.

”Xu Bai, the future depends on you. I hope you can develop more and more powerful weapons, so that fewer of our soldiers have to die.”

Xu Bai nodded, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

”I will do my best.”

Although this statement brought a bit of pressure to Xu Bai, it brought him even more motivation.

He loved a peaceful life, and for the sake of that peace, he had to work hard.

Night fell.

Xu Bai lay on his bed, his mind filled with various thoughts.

However, because he had to wake up early to go to the combat monitoring room tomorrow, Xu Bai closed his eyes, trying to clear his mind and fall asleep early.

But even with his eyes closed, the scene of the flying beasts smashing the tanks down from high altitude kept surfacing in his mind.

Sigh.

Although Xu Bai had seen various TV shows in the past that contained many bloody killing scenes, perhaps because he knew deep down that they were fake, he hadn’t taken them to heart.

But everything he saw today was real; living people had died right in front of him, and his heart was still somewhat shaken.

Of course, Xu Bai had thought about how to deal with these beasts, but after thinking it over, Mr. Number Eight’s methods were better. After all, they were the professionals when it came to warfare, and as an amateur, he should just obediently watch.

He wondered what kind of tragic scenes he would witness tomorrow.

Xu Bai took a deep breath for a moment, and the thoughts in his mind gradually calmed down.
