Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

307: Want to go to the war monitoring roomDecember 1st.

Inside the B Province Research Institute.

Tomorrow is the date the strange beasts plan to launch the war.

Xu Bai and Bai Shan are both in the Administrator’s office.

They have already made all the necessary preparations for this war, and in fact, the higher-ups have now issued a task for them to continue their research in preparation for the next war.

However, at this moment, his mind is entirely on tomorrow’s war, and he simply cannot calm down.

Just think about it: if you had your midterm exam tomorrow, but your teacher asked you to continue studying for the next final exam, would you be able to stay calm?

In any case, Xu Bai cannot calm down.

So, after some thought, Xu Bai proposed the idea of going to the monitoring room tomorrow to take a look.

This idea surprised the two people beside him very much.

In their view, isn’t this just asking for trouble? You have to know that casualties are inevitable in war; it’s unavoidable, so there will certainly be some—no, there will certainly be many—unsettling scenes.

You have to realize that many people develop a certain degree of psychological issues after experiencing war. These monitoring feeds are real-time scenes, so what if Xu Bai ends up with psychological trauma after watching them?

Thinking of this, Bai Shan and the Administrator exchanged glances and shook their heads repeatedly, expressing their opposition.

At the same time, Bai Shan asked Xu Bai, wanting to confirm that he hadn’t misheard just now.

”Are you really going to watch?”

Xu Bai nodded seriously.

”You need to know that those scenes are not pleasant to watch. Many trained soldiers are not used to seeing such scenes either. After the war, they often can’t sleep at night; the moment they close their eyes, those images in their minds resurface.”

Bai Shan tried to persuade Xu Bai once again; after all, even if it’s just watching the monitors, the scenes on the monitors are extremely bloody, exactly the same as being on the scene.

Although he hasn’t seen such scenes himself, he has heard about them, and just the images appearing in his mind were enough to make him feel overwhelmed, so he still wanted Xu Bai to reconsider.

However, Xu Bai did not hesitate and nodded at Bai Shan, showing his determination.

According to the intelligence provided, 2:00 AM tomorrow will be when the strange beasts launch their attack, which is only 10 hours from now.

This decision was not a momentary impulse for Xu Bai, but a decision made after careful consideration.

If there were no monitoring, Xu Bai admits he wouldn’t have the courage to go directly to the front lines of the war. After all, life is not guaranteed on the front lines; the strange beasts don’t care who you are, they will attack anyone who is human.

At the same time, the strange beasts are not crazed in this war. If they saw Xu Bai being protected by everyone, they would be even more likely to choose to attack him. By then, he would become a living target and would only hinder others.

That’s why he wouldn’t bring it up before, and didn’t dare to.

But now that there is monitoring, he doesn’t have to go to the front lines. He can see the scenes of the war from the monitoring room, which is very safe, so what else does he have to worry about?

That is why he thought about going to the monitoring room to see the scenes of the war.

He knows war is cruel, but what one hears, imagines, and sees with one’s own eyes are completely different experiences.

Their research is sometimes not smooth sailing. Previously, because Xu Bai’s experience was limited, he had not seen large-scale battles between strange beasts and humans, so he proposed some card-making ideas that were refuted by everyone.

At that time, he had considered wanting to see the scenes of soldiers fighting strange beasts with his own eyes, but he was discouraged by safety concerns. Today, hearing about the combat monitoring room, the previously extinguished idea surfaced again.

He also knows in his heart that after this war ends, there will be another war on December 18th, so he needs to see how the weapons he researched perform in the war, and then he will know which areas can be improved, and perhaps he might even get inspiration to research new weapons.

This is also the only thing he can do to deal with the war.

At first, Bai Shan did not understand why Xu Bai insisted on watching such bloody scenes, because he had always felt that as a researcher, it was enough to just do research in the laboratory.

But seeing Xu Bai’s firm expression, Bai Shan hesitated.

”Why do you want to go watch so much? You know this is not a good thing.”

Xu Bai: ”I feel that only by seeing it with my own eyes can I research more useful weapons.”

Hearing this, Bai Shan thought for a moment, nodded, and agreed to Xu Bai’s proposal, but he also put forward another idea.

”Alright, then I will go too. I will also see for myself what kind of role the weapons we made play in the war, and then see which areas need improvement.”

Hearing this from Bai Shan, Xu Bai tried to dissuade him: ”You should just stay at the Research Institute.”

He is still young, so watching these scenes won’t cause any issues. At the same time, he is someone who has watched various documentaries, so he is prepared for some bloody scenes. Bai Shan is nearly eighty years old; if something goes wrong, it could cost him his life, and he dared not let the other person go with him to watch.

”Yeah, that’s right, Teacher Bai, you should stay at the Research Institute. No, wait, you should both just stay behind.” The Administrator became confused in his own mind as he spoke.

”What’s wrong? Although I am old and cannot go to the front lines, I have the courage to watch the monitors in the monitoring room. You have to know that having lived for so long, I have seen many things.”

Bai Shan answered with a smile. Seeing that the Administrator and Xu Bai both wanted to try to persuade him again, he raised his eyebrows and glared at them.

”Alright, enough talking. The two of us are going together, please arrange a vehicle for us.”

The Administrator’s open mouth silently closed again.

Alright, it seems he has already made up his mind. What can he do? He can only have people pay more attention to the physical and mental state of these two.

These two are the country’s precious treasures; if either one of them has an accident, it would be a huge loss to the country, and he would be heartbroken.

”Alright, then you should go back and get some sleep in advance. I will send a car to take you there at 1:00 AM, and I still need to apply for access to the monitoring room first.”

Xu Bai and Bai Shan exchanged glances, nodded, and agreed to this arrangement.

After sending the two off, the Administrator silently wiped the sweat from his forehead.

The three of them were just chatting at first, talking about how tomorrow’s war would go, as everyone was a little nervous. Then the Administrator mentioned that the Government had installed many monitors on the front-line walls, and the battlefield commander, Mr. Number Eight, and his team would be in the monitoring room monitoring the battlefield situation in real-time.

Then Xu Bai proposed the decision to want to watch the monitors.

Naturally, he was opposed to this and thought that he and Bai Shan could persuade Xu Bai to turn back.

He didn’t expect that not only did he fail to persuade one, but the other person also wanted to go watch.

Sigh.

What can he do? Forget it, he has decided; he will go with them when the time comes.
