Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

308: Startle the snake in the grassWhile Xu Bai and his group could still get some sleep, others were unable to do so; for many, this was a sleepless night.

A member of the Guard Team, dressed in black, was walking down the road when he felt something land on his face. He wiped it with his hand and felt only a drop of water.

Was it raining?

He looked up and indeed saw something falling from the sky. What could fall from the sky? It must be rain.

He didn’t pay much attention and continued walking. After a few steps, he suddenly realized that rain usually makes more noise, and it falls faster, not this slowly. He looked up again toward the streetlights and realized it was actually snowing.

Tiny snowflakes danced in the sky like little elves, drifting leisurely onto people before melting into water. Watching the snowflakes, he felt the surrounding air become much colder.

The first snow of winter had arrived.

Accompanied by the falling snow, the Guard Team members in Province B, Province C, and Province D mobilized.

A directive had just come down from above, ordering the Guard Team to capture everyone on the list.

Then, a thick book was placed in the captain’s hand. The captain had just been about to ask which page the list of people to be arrested was on, but after looking at the cover, he froze on the spot.

People nearby, seeing his expression, gathered around. When they looked at the book in his hand, they realized that the book was the list, only this list was so long it could be bound into a book.

What was to be done?

Fortunately, the vice-captain reacted quickly and immediately thought to have the Information Department help. So, they ran to the Information Department and found several colleagues to help sort out the list and the distribution of personnel.

Immediately afterward, they began to operate in groups.

Although it was just a simple arrest order, their intuition told them that something was bound to happen; after all, the number of people being arrested this time was likely higher than when they first installed surveillance.

So this must be the cult again. Besides the cult, what other evil forces would be distributed across the Tianlong Republic?

The number of people on this list, combined with those arrested previously, was approaching 250,000. This figure also surprised them greatly.

The Guard Team had recently transferred a batch of people from other places, which was originally for this matter. However, even with the transferred personnel, the three provincial Guard Teams only totaled 50,000 people. Capturing nearly 150,000 people with 50,000 was indeed a daunting task.

Fortunately, with so many people on the other side, they would not all gather in one place; at most, they would gather in small groups, so arresting them in batches was feasible.

...

In fact, when discussing this directive, many people had different opinions.

Some opposed it, arguing that arresting these people might ”startle the snake,” and then the Alien Beasts would discover that they knew the enemy was about to launch an active attack, which might change the time of the Alien Beasts’ offensive.

Others agreed, believing that these cult members had all drunk the blood of Alien Beasts, which meant the Alien Beasts could control them. If they were not captured, the consequences would be uncontrollable.

Both those who agreed and those who opposed had valid points.

However, if they waited until the Alien Beasts launched the war to arrest the cult members, first, it would disperse their personnel, and second, it might cause casualties among ordinary civilians.

This was something they did not want and were unwilling to see.

Looking at the representatives arguing in front of him, Mr. Number Three asked three questions: What is the purpose of the establishment of the Tianlong Republic? What does the Tianlong Republic advocate? What is the army defending the front line for?

These three questions caused everyone to calm down.

Finally, Mr. Number Three decided that regardless of whether arresting the cult members would ”startle the snake,” they would choose to arrest them in advance, because this was the plan that caused the least harm to the masses and was the most suitable for the Tianlong Republic.

Furthermore, Mr. Number Three believed that since the other side had made so many preparations, even if they knew a few hours in advance, they would not easily abandon their actions.

Of course, in order to cope with this Alien Beast attack, they had also made various plans. One of the plans was that if the Alien Beasts abandoned the war, they would choose to initiate the war themselves.

They did not like war, but they were not afraid of it either.

...

On this side, the Guard Team’s actions were very smooth. When they went to arrest people according to the list, these people were indeed gathered in twos and threes, and the number of people was not large, so the arrests were very smooth and did not cause too much loss or injury.

According to intelligence, these people would only act one hour after the Alien Beasts launched their attack.

So now was the time for them to rest or discuss, so the other side had no precautions against the Guard Team’s arrests.

The information personnel listened to the names coming over the walkie-talkies and checked them off on the list one by one.

Because of the large number of people, they would strictly check three times to avoid missing anyone.

Looking at the positions they held in the cult written after these names, smiles appeared on everyone’s faces.

Perhaps they should thank the Alien Beasts; the other side intended to strike these three cities first, so they gathered the cult members in these three cities as well. Unexpectedly, this also facilitated their arrests, so this operation should make most of the cults cease to exist.

That is to say, after this time, life in the Tianlong Republic would be much safer, and their future work would be much easier.

They did not intend to kill all these cult members who had drunk Alien Beast blood.

Although the Tianlong Republic had some understanding of the blood of Super-High-Grade Alien Beasts, they had not developed an antidote to lift the control. At present, they could only use drugs to distinguish who had drunk it and who had not, so they could only manage to take precautions.

That is to say, what high-level personnel could do at present was to drink boiled water and strictly monitor their daily diet to avoid drinking Alien Beast blood and being controlled.

However, they knew that they could not take precautions like this forever, so they also had to consider one thing: that is, in case the Super-High-Grade Alien Beast intended to make them drink the Alien Beast blood later, they needed to have an antidote to lift this control.

Therefore, these captured cult members became research subjects for the hospital.

If one were to ask if this human experimentation was too cruel, one should know that although they were a bit pitiful for being controlled, they had also committed many illegal and criminal acts to join the cult in the first place.

If they were pitiful, were those who were killed by them not pitiful?

Therefore, they were not pitiful; even if they died ten thousand times, it would not be enough to offset their sins.
