Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

310: Drone OperationsXu Bai continued to observe the exotic beasts advancing on the screen.

The beasts following closely behind the rat-type exotic beasts looked somewhat like cat-type exotic beasts to him.

Are cats and mice working together to attack?

Does the concept of natural enemies not exist among exotic beasts?

Or is it that exotic beasts don’t eat their own kind and only feed on humans?

Various questions filled Xu Bai’s mind.

To find the answer, he began to observe carefully.

No, that wasn’t right.

Xu Bai realized that the relationship between the exotic beasts wasn’t that good.

First, he saw some of the rat-type exotic beasts in the middle trying to retreat, but they were scared back by the cat-type exotic beasts behind them baring their teeth.

Immediately after, Xu Bai saw another rat-type exotic beast trying to hide in a thicket.

The thicket, combined with the snow, was just enough to conceal its figure, but unfortunately, it was still discovered by a cat-type exotic beast.

This time, however, the cat-type exotic beast didn’t drive it away; instead, it began to devour it directly.

This action served as an excellent example of ”killing the chicken to warn the monkey.”

The rat-type exotic beasts in front seemed to have eyes in the back of their heads.

As if they had witnessed this scene, their forward movement speed increased significantly, and far fewer beasts attempted to retreat.

Xu Bai realized that they were not working in cooperation; rather, the cat-type exotic beasts behind were driving the rat-type exotic beasts in front to advance.

However, Xu Bai didn’t know if this was due to the predator-prey relationship or the difference in size between the two sides.

Because the cat-type exotic beasts behind were also different in size from the cats he had seen before; they were about twice the size of a human, meaning they were twice as large as the rat-type exotic beasts.

Xu Bai wrote this question down in his notebook without delving deeper into it.

At this moment, Xu Bai also understood why the Researchers focused more on developing firearms and artillery; it definitely had a lot to do with the size of the exotic beasts.

Because the exotic beasts were too large, using cold weapons was inconvenient for attacking.

Xu Bai had previously thought about attaching bayonets to the front of guns, so that if they ran out of ammunition, they could still fight with the bayonets.

He had expected this idea to be affirmed by everyone, but it was unexpectedly rejected very quickly.

He hadn’t understood the reason back then, but now he did.

Although human bodies became stronger after eating the meat of exotic beasts and could carry heavier weights—meaning they could even wield a two-meter-long broadsword—

being able to carry it and being able to use it conveniently were two completely different things.

By the time you swung the broadsword forward, the exotic beast would already have charged right in front of you.

Such a weapon was like a chicken rib—useless to eat but a pity to discard.

If soldiers used weapons that were convenient to carry, while those weapons were convenient, their lethality was too low.

Therefore, soldiers mostly used firearms to fight the beasts.

Xu Bai silently drew abstract sketches of the exotic beasts he had seen in his notebook and estimated their approximate height.

Even designing a chair requires it to be ergonomic, so designing weapons requires even more care; one must not only consider the person using the weapon but also what the weapon is intended for.

...

Suddenly, many of the exotic beasts in the video began to fall one by one.

Xu Bai knew that their side must have launched an attack, so he looked at the other screens to find the source of the attack.

Upon looking at the 18th screen, he realized that it wasn’t soldiers attacking the exotic beasts, but drones.

Why was that?

After thinking for a brief moment, Xu Bai understood the reason for this arrangement.

The two sides currently fighting were, in fact, one defending the city and the other attacking it.

As the attacking side, the exotic beasts could choose the time and route of their attack, which was their advantage.

As the side defending the city, they naturally had to leverage their own advantages.

Therefore, soldiers didn’t need to take the initiative to attack; they only needed to wait for the exotic beasts to arrive at defensive points on the city walls and then attack the beasts from a superior position.

If they went directly out of the city to fight the exotic beasts, wouldn’t they be abandoning their defensive advantage?

Humans weren’t as large as the exotic beasts, and the casualties would likely be very high.

And now, with these drones, the operators were inside the city; even if a drone was shot down, it wouldn’t cause any casualties.

”We used to have to wait until the exotic beasts approached the city walls to attack. Now with drones, we can attack from such a distance.”

A sigh of exclamation came from nearby.

Xu Bai looked in the direction of the voice and discovered that the person speaking was an old acquaintance he had met before at the B Province Military Region, named Wu Yunshan.

When he first met him, Xu Bai had been working on the Sniper Rifle.

Since there was someone knowledgeable he could ask, and seeing that the other person didn’t seem busy for the moment, Xu Bai asked his question.

”I see that the number of drones currently deployed is quite small compared to the number of exotic beasts. Will more drones be added?”

”The weapons loaded on the drones are different. The weapons on the drones currently attacking are rapid-fire weapons. This firepower is sufficient to counter the low-level exotic beasts in the front. Although there aren’t many of them, their rate of fire is fast. Look, another large group has fallen.”

Xu Bai turned his head to look and found that it was just as Wu Yunshan had said; the number of fallen exotic beasts was increasing, and a large group had already fallen.

After answering Xu Bai’s question, Wu Yunshan didn’t stop talking but continued.

”It’s mainly because the larger low-level exotic beasts behind require new drones to handle them. Don’t think they are clumsy just because they are large. You should know that they are not only tall, but they also have a high jumping ability, and their bodies are very agile; they can even react in mid-air.”

”If a drone flies too high, its ammunition is easily dodged by them. If a drone flies too low, they can hit the drone. In a while, a batch of disposable drones should be arranged to attack them.”

”Oh, right, after they advance a bit further, they will reach the minefield, which will also wipe out a large number of exotic beasts.”

The exotic beasts in the back really were like cats, jumping high and being very agile, Xu Bai thought to himself.

”Disposable drones—you mean the drones that drop bombs, right?”

”Yes, they will drop conventional bombs; that firepower is sufficient. After all, we still need to collect the star energy stones from their heads and their flesh later. The flesh of these low-level exotic beasts is very useful; it can become our food, a kind of combat ration. Eating a bite can quickly restore a person’s stamina.”

”The current weather is just right; it’s a natural freezer. After the exotic beasts die, they will be frozen directly, and we can collect many of their carcasses after the battle.”

”However, one thing is a pity: currently, we humans cannot withstand the energy in the flesh of high-level exotic beasts. We can only use it for research or blow it up directly to prevent other exotic beasts from taking it back to eat. It would be great if this energy could be utilized.”
