Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

39: Something happenedXu Bai picked up Xu Le, patted his back, and comforted him.

Xu Le thought his brother was playing with him and giggled.

Hearing Xu Le’s laughter, Xu Bai finally relaxed. It was good that he wasn’t scared; he still needed to pay attention tonight.

Children who get scared might cry at night, and if it’s severe, they might even develop a fever.

For safety, Xu Bai held Xu Le and moved slightly away from the window, standing behind the crowd. This way, if there was danger, he could run backward. Going downstairs at this moment might be even more dangerous.

Fortunately, those who gathered in front of him were relatively short, so Xu Bai could still see the situation outside the window from behind.

A large hole was visible in the wall to the left of the Energy Guild specialty store across the street.

Now, four tall figures dressed in black, carrying large bags, rushed out through the opening.

”Ah, it’s a robbery.”

”Robbery, someone’s robbing!”

”Ah, someone’s robbing the Energy Guild specialty store.”

”It’s a robbery.”

”Oh my god, it’s my first time seeing a robbery.”

”Who’s robbing? They’re so bold.”

...The onlookers discussed animatedly.

Xu Bai’s mind was also filled with questions, and he simultaneously scanned the vicinity for any suspicious individuals.

Logically, there should be lookouts, and as for what logic, of course, it was the logic he’d gained from years of reading novels.

At this moment, a man and a woman next to him caught Xu Bai’s attention.

The two were slowly backing out of the crowd. Xu Bai didn’t dare to look directly but glanced out of the corner of his eye, discovering that it was the same couple who had been sitting at his table earlier, constantly looking out the window.

After they exited the crowd, they didn’t head towards the stairwell; instead, they climbed over the window behind them and disappeared.

Xu Bai was startled. They might be in league with the robbers. After confirming their companions had escaped, they were also fleeing.

Extremely suspicious.

When encountering dangerous situations, people are afraid and want to escape.

Either they run at the first moment, or they wait until everyone is confirmed safe and stay with the crowd in place. This is because you can’t be sure of the dangerous situation, and running around randomly might lead you directly into danger.

”Bang!” First, a gunshot rang out, followed by several more gunshots in quick succession.

The Guard Team arrived.

Xu Bai withdrew his thoughts and continued to look downstairs. He saw that one of the robbers had been shot and fell to the ground, while the others had already fled.

Listening to the discussions of the onlookers, Xu Bai knew that the man had been shot by the leader of the Guard Team.

Two Guard Team members went to check on the man who had been shot. They shook their heads; he was already dead.

Meng Zhong, the Guard Team Captain, looked around, confirmed he didn’t see any more robbers, and ordered his team to cease firing.

”Team One, continue to pursue the robbers in the direction they fled. Inquire along the way if anyone can provide information.”

”Yes.”

”Team Two, take all the witnesses from across the street to the Guard Bureau. Also, see if anyone noticed any strange individuals.”

”Yes.”

”Team Three, you stay here to guard the Energy Guild specialty store, secure the scene, and don’t let anyone run inside. Also, keep an eye on the Guild’s employees; they need to be questioned separately.”

”Yes.”

”And Team Four, you go to the city gate and notify them. Not all the robbers were intercepted. According to regulations, the city gates need to be closed for a three-day search.”

”Yes.”

Although he had arranged each team one by one, Meng Zhong’s heart was still burning with an unnamed fury.

He hadn’t expected such a major incident to occur in his jurisdiction. If these robbers weren’t caught, he might be replaced as captain.
