Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1158: Void Mantis Strikes!

As Immortika revealed the true terror of Whiteness to Jacob, the colossal Void Mantis inclined its head slightly. Not in respect or arrogance, but in certainty, making Jacob flinch with fear and his static Cursed Heart starting to pulse wildly.

At this moment, Whiteness’s voice echoed; not from a mouth, but from everywhere his presence touched...

”Heretic!” He said calmly but with a hint of hidden urgency, ”Whatever protects you has already moved once.”

The white sigil rotated faster suddenly, ”Although I don’t know whether ’they’ can move again, for ’they’ should’ve have already if they could, and even if ’they’ can, I cannot allow ’it’ to move again!”

”Hahahaha...”Immortika suddenly burst into laughter despite Jacob’s gloomy expression as if it wasn’t the Cursed Book’s concern.

Jacob completely ignored Immortika’s amused laughter, but deep down, he could guess what the cursed book had found so amusing about this whole situation, and he also noticed something strange.

”So, he’s thinking the Infinite Space has some higher existence as a master, who is protecting ’me’, the so-called ’Heretic’. But if he’s an underling most likely under Immortal Nimrod, since he’s an existence of the Void, shouldn’t he already be aware of who I actually am?”

Jacob couldn’t help but think out loud so Immortika could also hear him and provide some insight.

However, Jacob’s thoughts had barely finished forming when reality itself lurched without any warning or declaration, as Whiteness did not care for answers.

The colossal mantis moved as its six wings, those impossible constructs of folded space, flickered once, not flapping, not beating, but reordering position.

One moment, the Void Mantis stood still, cathedral-like and silent, and in the next, it was already upon Jacob.

The Infinite Space howled; not audibly, but structurally, as that movement alone nearly tore a seam through Jacob’s dominion as spatial layers bent sharply inward, collapsing like brittle glass forced to accept an alien geometry.

Just with this move alone, the chasm of power and evolution between Jacob and Whiteness became clear, and even if Jacob was the Heir of Cursed Immortality, he was still too weak to confront a Higher Law God, especially a unique Higher Law God like the Void Mantis of the Fantastic Insect Race!

With no hesitation or fear of consequences, Whiteness struck, and his attack was without any law or authority, but the power behind it was pure flesh.

The mantis raised one forelimb; long, elegant, and terrifyingly precise, and suddenly, Whiteness whispered, but his voice reverberated in Jacob’s very soul...

”Veracity Scythe!”

The mantis’ primary raptorial limb descended; beautiful and clean, yet at the same time was lethally fatal!

The scythe-like forearm gleamed with porcelain-white chitin, its edge lined with fractal serrations so fine they did not reflect light at all. This was not a blade sharpened to cut matter; it was a limb evolved to sever laws themselves!

The Infinite Space reacted instantly as Jacob forced distance to expand once more, and the space stretched, layers multiplying between the two. It was the same method that had saved him moments ago.

However, this time, Whiteness seemed to have already considered it and no longer seemed worried about Jacob escaping, especially since that existence was still thinking of using this trick again to protect Jacob.

Under Whiteness’s merciless attack, the expanding corridor of folded space was cut and neatly sliced open, and it was also the beginning of true horror for Jacob.

The Veracity Scythe passed through expanding distance as if it were silk pulled too tight, its edge leaving behind a pale scar where space failed to reconnect properly.

Seeing the Veracity Scythe seemed to be ignoring the distance in space, Jacob’s Cursed Heart lurched violently as his skeletal fingers clenched, and his flaming eyes widened in astonishment.

”What...!?” Jacob was completely clueless about how Whiteness could still use his authority and laws despite being suppressed by the Infinite Space.

Although Jacob knew that the suppression of the Infinite Space wasn’t perfect, it still could help him avoid the previous attack of Whiteness, and also suppressed him to the point where Whiteness could be considered in the same realm as Jacob.

However, Jacob had no clue that Whiteness had completely stopped using his magic and divine power; instead, he was using his innate Fantastic Insect physique, which he had evolved after overcoming countless deadly crises!

Just like Autarch, who can turn anyone into a puppet by simply infiltrating their brains and consciousness and can use every single one of their abilities as if born with them, Whiteness’s body is also like a weapon forged by the purest form of Void Law.

Without even needing the magic power, he can use his body and perform unimaginable abilities and effect laws like not even a Zodiac Beast of the Void could perform.

That’s why Whiteness decided to reveal his true form, despite knowing that if he were to expose himself in the Legendary Plains in this state, he might really perish under the retribution of the Zodiac Plains.

However, Whiteness had already noticed how special the Infinite Space was, as he thought: since the existence behind Jacob could hide here without triggering the retribution of the Zodiac Plains, he might also be able to reveal his true form without any consequences, and he succeeded!

Ignorantly, Jacob had helped Whiteness avoid death, and now the scythe grew closer and closer.

The Infinite Space screamed again, pouring authority into reinforcement, compression, redirection, but the mantis limb ignored intent. Strangely, it did not oppose Jacob’s control and simply did not acknowledge it.

Jacob felt it this time; sharp, and undeniable as a second wave of true deadly crisis, and this time it wasn’t hypothetical and didn’t seem to be avoidable either.

If that limb reached him, his existence would be parsed, stripped down to its most honest configuration, and discarded.

’This body, this thing, even without magic power... It’s an ability unto itself!’ Jacob’s mind raced as he knew he had underestimated Whiteness, or more accurately, he had misunderstood the Void Mantis.

Suppressing Whiteness’s divine authority had meant nothing, as this was not a god relying on law, for this was a Fantastic Insect, a Void Noble whose flesh had evolved where laws failed to survive.

Even Mythical Kings, even perfected Law Gods, were irrelevant before such a physique.

Jacob finally understood that there was no victory here, or any chance of capture and containment, because even if he sealed every last shred of Whiteness’s power, he could not harm it.

Moreover, if this continued, the Infinite Space, his biggest reliance and trump card, would become his grave!
