Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

No matter when you watch it, the epic and thrilling scenes always get your blood pumping.

The plot of ”Time Standoff” becomes almost entirely large-scale scenes in the later parts.

The battles between mechs and robots span from the ground to the sky, from bustling city streets to ruins and junkyards... Not only are the changes in the mech devices incredibly imaginative, but the action scenes are also exhilarating. Almost every frame is packed with high production value, without any of the cheapness one might expect.

While the plot itself wasn’t particularly outstanding, it did a good job of blending novel sci-fi universe theories with traditional Chinese philosophical reflections. It had a sci-fi style that only Chinese filmmakers could produce. The parallel universe hypothesis at the end served as a plot twist, making the overall story less straightforward and adding some surprises.

In particular, the character of Killer A, played by Xiao He, is incredibly imposing. He truly brings back the feeling of watching horror movies, giving the audience a sense of despair that they can’t defeat him no matter what.

It wasn’t until the very end, when Lu An’s teammates paid the ultimate price, that they finally glimpsed the last weakness in Assassin A.

That is, the last part of Killer A that was not yet fully mechanized—his brain.

Ironically, in the future, as humanity relentlessly pursues cyber immortality, it strives to strengthen its physical body, completely abandoning all human senses such as sight, hearing, smell, and touch, leaving everything to machines for evaluation and the brain for feedback. However, because the human brain cannot be replaced by machines, it ultimately cannot completely break free from the constraints of the physical body.

Thus, the robots, which should have been invincible, possessed the same weaknesses as humans.

Although such a weakness is difficult for them to break through their defenses at present, they have at least found an opportunity.

Conversely, the robot’s body is just another mecha, except that the machine is controlled by a separate human brain, while the operator inside the mecha is a complete human being.

Both sides are pursuing absolute strength, yet they seem to be heading towards the same goal through different paths.

And the most terrifying thing is that since the cyber virus can exist in the bodies of robots in the future and paralyze the human brain, could the same cyber virus also exist in the bodies of mechs in the future, thus breaking free from human control?

Both sides seem to lead to extremes, no matter which way you go.

So, what the mecha that returned from the future said is the whole truth about the future?

-

At this point, from the audience’s omniscient perspective, it’s possible to guess that the robot villain who runs throughout the entire film may not actually be the real villain. Killer A may have returned from the future and his actions were likely aimed at changing the timeline and saving humanity.

It’s even quite possible that he and the mecha that traveled back in time are not on the same timeline.

(The story’s setting limits the conditions for time travel; the human body cannot withstand it, so only mechs or highly modified robots can return.)

Therefore, it is highly likely that the three of them are in three different timelines—what people often call parallel universes.

The timeline in which the mecha exists is one where humanity has developed mechanical bodies to an extreme, a virus spreads causing a riot among the robots, leading to the extinction of humanity. Thus, the only option is for the mecha to travel through time and change the past.

The timeline in which Assassin A exists is one in which humanity has developed mechs to an extreme, only to be betrayed by them. As a result, humanity is forced to modify itself, placing its hopes on its own people, and sending the highly modified Assassin A back in time to change the timeline.

As for the last timeline, it is naturally the timeline in which the protagonist Lu An and his companions are currently located.

This timeline is at the most important point in history, and everything is still uncertain, but the current development is disrupted by outsiders from two other timelines.

However, because the mecha appeared in front of the protagonist Lu An first, everyone prejudicially regarded Killer A as the opposing villain.

What if we look at it from the opposite perspective?

Perhaps in the end, it will be impossible to determine who is right and who is wrong in this battle.

After all, nothing is eternal, and human development is always fraught with bloodshed and uncertainty.

As for whether Killer A is good or bad, what is the truth behind the time travel?

We’re destined not to see the exact answers to all of this in the movie.

Not only the audience, but also Lu An, were unable to know the truth.

In the final battle, Lu An successfully seized the opportunity to kill Assassin A, whose weakness had been exposed.

Assassin A lay silently on the ground, one side of his head blown away, leaving only a metal shell, making it impossible to recognize his human form. Bright red blood flowed from the other side, mixing with a pool of silver-blue liquid beneath him, creating a vivid yet eerie scene.

Behind Lu An, the mech that delivered the fatal blow to Assassin A had completely exhausted all its energy and quietly collapsed in the ruins.

Just now, the dying assassin A, relying on the last vestige of human instinct remaining in his brain, reached out to the person in front of him, trying to convey some message to Lu An—even though he could no longer see or hear anything, like a dead apostle in a cage.

Unfortunately, before anything could happen, his actions were judged by the mech to be a death throes, and he was completely annihilated in the mech’s final attack, perishing together with the mech.

Lu An’s doubts and suspicions remained unanswered.

Where did he come from?

—Did he kill so many professors just to prevent the birth of mechs so that future robots could destroy humanity and the world?

But Killer A wasn’t as invincible as the mech claimed.

However, the mechs were not completely overwhelmed by Killer A and unable to fight back.

The combat power on both sides was perhaps in a delicate balance from a certain perspective. In the end, the mechs and robots that returned from the future world perished together.

It’s as if the world is supposed to have its own laws. They came back from the future, fighting against each other, destined to perish together in this era that should never have existed in the first place.

This is a law, an irreversible cycle of spacetime.

But......

Are they... really in the same time and space?

Standing before the corpse of Assassin A, Lu An was lost in thought, his mind involuntarily recalling the voice of the female researcher from the institute—

Are we their past, or the future they are changing?

This battle over how human technology should develop in the future seems to have ended abruptly without any answers.

But for some reason, everyone who saw this subconsciously thought of magic performances on the Spring Festival Gala stage.

Perhaps mechanical modification and the invention of mechs are not far away from humanity.

So this issue hasn’t ended; it’s just that it’s branching out from within the story into something else entirely...

-

The ending of ”Time Standoff” doesn’t have a particularly long post-credits scene; it’s just a long take.

In the scene, Lu An thought the X0010 mecha was already scrapped, but when it was carried to the research institute for research, the silver-blue beam of light on its body, symbolizing vitality, flickered briefly.

Then the quiet research institute was plunged into darkness once again.

That concludes the Easter egg segment.

This Easter egg is strange. It seems to be hinting that there is a problem with the mecha, or that the whole conspiracy has not yet been revealed. It leaves the audience, who have been immersed in the high-intensity fight scenes, with a strange feeling of being scratched by something that is not there.

But after waiting for a long time, they still didn’t receive any announcements or explanations about the second part.

It’s as if this Easter egg really is just a supplement to the ending of the story.

That’s very strange.

What exactly does this Easter egg mean?

Are the mechs the real villains?
