Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 37: Chapter 36: Major Breakthrough

Wang Yu was completely stunned.

He just lowered himself to look in order to shut Lu Li up.

He never expected that at the bottom of the bridge railing on the outside, there really was a drop of blood stuck there.

The most crucial part was that the blood looked quite ”fresh,” as if it had dripped there recently!

Even though he didn’t know if it was Zhai Million’s blood, the fact that something so hidden was discovered by Lu Li sent a shiver down his spine, making him wonder if the other really had the Yin Yang Eye.

Wang Yu hurriedly stood up, his expression serious, ”I’m calling the boss now, asking him to send someone to collect the blood for testing. If it’s indeed Zhai Million’s blood, then there’s a major breakthrough in the case!”

”Hey, don’t rush.” Lu Li said unhurriedly, ”Even if this drop of blood is Zhai Million’s, at most we can only confirm that this is the first dump site, but it still doesn’t help us solve the case.”

Wang Yu looked at him, ”What do you mean?”

Lu Li said, ”We now continue to search for the first murder scene, and the killer!”

If Wang Yu had heard this before, he would have scoffed at it seven or eight out of ten times.

However, just now, under Lu Li’s guidance, he had truly found a fresh drop of blood at the bottom of the bridge railing, making a major breakthrough in the case.

At this moment, Wang Yu suddenly realized that even if Lu Li didn’t have the Yin Yang Eye, he surely possessed a crime-solving intuition unmatched by others.

”How do you plan to do it?” Wang Yu proactively asked, ”Anyway, from now on I’ll follow your lead.”

Lu Li waved his hand, ”No need to make it so serious, just follow me.”

Wang Yu nodded, ”Alright.”

Lu Li walked toward the car.

Wang Yu caught up, asking curiously, ”Old Lu, how did you know there was a drop of blood on the bridge, you couldn’t be the killer, right?”

The latter half of the sentence was obviously a joke.

Lu Li looked sideways at him speechlessly, ”I was home all night yesterday, my parents can vouch for me, don’t pin a crime on me randomly.”

”Hehe, just joking.” Wang Yu eagerly asked, ”How did you discover it, tell me in detail, could it be... you really have a Yin Yang Eye?”

”Haha.” Lu Li laughed, ”You believe such nonsense?”

Wang Yu: ”...”

Lu Li casually asked back, ”Do you still remember when I said the area near the graveyard might not be the first dump site?”

Wang Yu nodded, ”I remember, what’s up?”

Lu Li explained, ”Since the area near the graveyard is most likely not the first dump site, and you all previously found nothing nearby, I personally believe the killer is very likely to have used the water route to dump the body. Think carefully, where nearby can you enter the water without drawing attention? Or rather, even if traces are left behind, they would be quickly covered up?”

Wang Yu suddenly realized, ”You mean, here by the rural canal, generally except for fishermen, few people would come to the shore to leave footprints. If they dumped the body from both banks, they’d likely leave footprints, and by jumping off the bridge with bags of dismembered body parts or other things, swimming to a farther place to dump the body would minimize the chance of discovery? Most crucially, in the morning, there would be many scooters and small cars crossing the bridge. Even if blood traces were left behind, they’d be destroyed?”

”Smart!” Lu Li snapped his fingers, ”Generally speaking, by doing this, the killer indeed makes it hard to find traces. But water provides buoyancy, so dragging at least dozens, even over a hundred pounds of dismembered body while swimming would still be tiring, requiring rest stops. I paused just now to observe closely and found some traces.”

Wang Yu nodded in agreement.

Committing murder and dismembering a body in such a short time would tire even the strongest individual.

Then jumping off the bridge, dragging dozens or hundreds of pounds of body parts while swimming, how could one not stop to rest?

He couldn’t help but exclaim, ”Old Lu, your observation and judgment skills are truly amazing!”

Lu Li smiled but said nothing.

It sounded simple.

But if it weren’t for using his X-ray vision and super smell to find traces, it would be impossible to consider all this so quickly.

He was now essentially working backward from the answer.

Suddenly, Wang Yu seemed to think of something, ”Based on what you said, did you really find Zhai Million’s bloodstains when you squatted down repeatedly before?”

Lu Li said, ”Yeah.”

Wang Yu’s attitude changed dramatically, ”No way, when we head back, I have to photograph all these places and get someone to spray some luminol and activating solution later.”

Lu Li teased, ”Do you believe me now?”

Wang Yu was quite sincere, ”Not completely, unless the test results come back, confirming that the blood on the bridge is indeed Zhai Million’s.”

Lu Li confidently said, ”Even without the test report, I’ll make you completely believe it!”

The two chatted as they walked.

In the night, Lu Li squinted his eyes slightly.

Actually, just now, at the places where he detected Zhai Million’s blood scent, he also smelled another peculiar odor.

How to describe that scent?

A bit like the smell of livestock.

With a hint of greasy odor.

He couldn’t determine what this scent was for the moment.

The two continued chatting as they returned to the car.

They got into the car.

Lu Li drove along the north and south directions of the bridge, expanding the search for Zhai Million’s blood scent.

...

The car sped north along the bridge.
